  2. Welcome to the ultimate subaru message board! I see you are from indiana, i hail from Auburn/Butler, just north of fort wayne i too am doing the xt6 5 lug swap to an 87 gl1- wagon. but i need a pair of front struts. i will have a pair of air struts what kind of struts are yours? you can use legacy struts., and use different springs with them, put the rx spring on, maybe? so where from indiana are you from? We have a band of subaru enthusisats on the board from indiana. MyossFeece, 1ABAJA, Rgaff_77, Volcom Don, and myself. We meet often, and there are guys in michigan and ohio/ suppose we could meet some day and oh yeah, dont use the caps lock on the board, people will call you out on it.....(yelling) anyway, this board is a great source of subaru information, and i hope you stick around....
  3. YO i have the pictures of the yellow brat on my server you can link to the pics for your site http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/alexandr
  4. feel free to peep this, use some if it helps http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/partsguide parts numbers and pics this can be viewd when i remove the unfinished index page. if u dont get it now, check back in a few
  5. very good compilation withthe quotes! maybe it will trim the fat from multiple tire size posts.. i got some pics up, view my directory, mostly stuff that was submitted, and new trashwagon pics. have a look http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox maybe you will recognize a few!
  6. i dont think you can get too much torque, but if the threads are bad more tourque may strip it out more do what i do. if the nut is off, tughten it down snug with a ratchet by hand. the use the breaker bar to snug it a little. then put one full quarter turn on the breaker bar. that will be plento of yourque. the idea is to have the axle drawn all the way thru the bearing when beig tightened the first time.
  7. mine had a tendency to pull one way or the other. it was a loose crossmember mount, and my modified strut caps were not tight enough. did you get enough offset on the strut camber?
  8. we bought a new clutch disc, but a bad pressure plate ate it up. but the warrantee was honored by autozone the one that we put in 86 subarus was the wrong size at first, but napa exchanged it even though it was open. got a better deal that way, as the computer was listed wrong. new guy at the counter..
  9. make sure you butt the breaker bar against the DRIVER side, so it dont fly over real fast. i about took my own head off that way. it will work, and is not dangerous if you use common sense i have had to fix timing belts off the side of the road. or use a breaker and a hammer, quick sharp blows to break free from the motor's static inertia
  10. if the piston is not turned in all the way, the caliper will not go on. yo have the caliper installed, right? could the parking brake lever be hanging up? how was the piston seal?
  11. its easier to remove the crossmember from the body, with the transmission atatched. makes easier to put it in, also
  12. Welcome to the baord! First off, i would like to introdice myself. I live nin north east indiana, your town is right off the indiana border! You are not too far south of jim(86 subaru) in anna ohio. Seeing that you are somewhat local, i invite you to meet with us some time Jim usually gets good deals on parts, and i, alleyboy(jon from columbus), and even tom from michigan meet there often. hopefully some day we can meet! anyway, i would suggest removing the cotter pin and re-tightening the axle nut. i say so because you said it was serviced before. the noise you sedcribes sounds like the rotor hitting the caliper bracket. this will happen if the axle is loose or has bead threads. i had this on 2 occasions. i had a wheel bearing noise once, it would be aggravated on by the crown of the road at cruise speed, but was not so bad on the left lane on a 4 lane hiway. also, the noise was there when i hit the brake. if the inner axle goes bad, it will want to pull the wheel to that side, jerk, jerk, jerk, in an oscillating pattern according to speed. i would put my money on the axle nut or its threads. the axle presses thru the bearing, the rotor seats against the outer bearing, and the nut holds it all together. if there was not enough torque on the nut when the axle was last serviced, just the slightest amount of play will make noises like you sescribe. i believe the axle nut torque is 145 lbs. (can anyone back me up?) i would suggest to remove the axle nuts and inspect the thread, and re-torque them to rule that problem out first, then go from there
  13. maybe it has something to do with the shielded wire you asked about a while back?
  14. ok, my server has been completely stripped except for the wcss folder. i will be adding folders tonite. when you click on my link, it will take you to my main directory if you want to take a sneak peek! so far i have compiled all the pics i will need from everyone who responded to this topic
  15. nice. ea82 is pimpin' got any pics of the ea82 install?
  16. RWD aint what its cracked up to be. but i had some fun in the wal martparking lot last night. it would have been more fun with 4wd, so my car wouldnt 180 every time i tried ti turn! tried to get some speed to make some laps, practice my drift, but every turn, round and round she goes> take a turn into a spinout into a donut and keep going!! i'm sure the parked semi drivers were entertained for 20 minutes
  17. what is the gallery program called, and whre can i get one. download?
  18. hey, i am making changes to my website. i have obtained a copy of dream weaver, might as well conver to it. my links are down from your page, so i will have to give you new links so you can get them working i will be doing this all thru the weekend. does dreamweaver have the gallery layout, or is that something different?
  19. if the old ones are not broken, keep them and rebuild them as spares-get-me-by, you get the idea
  20. it broke on the outer end. i just turned the wheel full lock, popped the acle from the stub out with a crowbar, and pulled the doj from the tranny. so now im driving in RWD. i had 185's in back, and 175 in front. so all that waste, it snows and the roads are icy, i slid off the road and bent a rear trailing arm! wheres 4wd when i really needed it??? it popped the tire, i had to get a chain and get back on the road, changed the tire, was on my way. car dog-tracked, too scary on the ice. i drove back to butler and pinded out the rear trailing arm besi ti could. so now i have 3 175's, and the odd 185 is on the bent side, to help the car track, drives much straighter, not so scary. what a coincidence, ironic, oxymoron
  21. would you know it, we finally get some SNOw, and now i CHUNKED a front axle...again. the other side this time. back to RWD.. oh well, donuts are still fin. i was going to put the back tires on the front, the front being bald, would have made for some fun 4wd. but wit the broken axle, i will leave the best tires in back(185's) and put some better 175/s on the front, no 4wd
  22. on the 78 brat, having no parts, we are FORCED to explore the option of ea81/ea82 suspensions, and of course, ea82 seats. that is because these are the ONLY parts we have to put it together.
  23. that is the noise suppressor coil for the radio. it keeps coil signals from passing thru the antenna. one end goes to +coi;l, and the other end grounds to body. its not necessart to be there for the car to run, just radio noise(if u might have it)
  24. nice to see things on a roll! i took 4 disks of pics from the mavica of parts off the car, coils, intakes, suspensions, xt6 parts, whatever i had laying around. once i put them up, you are welcome to use any of my pics!! i will also try to get pics of the ea81 crossmember as it goes into the 78 brat, for a mod page
