I need a part number for my Loyale FWD
MilesFox replied to Sandrion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
any FWD, 4WD 85-94 GL, DL, LOYALE will be the same part. Just don't confuse it with 80-89 listings (hatchback) or 81-87 (brat) and 80-84 (ea81 gl) J -
Whats the lowest riding rear strut for GL/Loyale
MilesFox replied to AWD J3wman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't know the measurements, but the xts have a lower ride height, fwd being the lowest, but the rear strut is shorter on a 4wd than on a 2wd if using it in a 4wd car. -
Subaru Loyale o2 Sensor Question
MilesFox replied to jagerfiend's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It will connect in the bundle of wires going to the transmission. The wire would come up from the cat between the frame and the axle on the passenger side. there is a metal tab on the bottom of the engine to trans bellhousing bolt that secures the wire from the axle, and then up the side of the trans along the bellhousing. I bet the wire pulled out when the exhaust pipe was dropped if they forgot to unhook it before hand -
I can salvage the lateral links from my junk car if you need them. Call it now before i cut the car in half and haul it away tomorrow. The bushings are in great shape, not oil soaked. ,and let me know if you need the taco arms. I wanted to save them anyway, but only if i had an outlet for them or antoher car to use them on.

Yes, this technique works for me. Loosen the nut when the whole thing is attached. There is a flat spot on tthe inner tie that you can use a 14mm wrench. Whacking the knuckle sharply and squarely (from the side) a few times will cause the ball joint to fall out. You should not have to hit on the shank of the tie rod at all. I have used boots from napa. You will need to salvage the spring that holds the inner boot in place

The gaskets should install dry if you have the graphite faced ones. The block, heads, and manifold will allow to expand and contract at their own rate.

My engine had rustyed cylinder walls as the engine i used had sat in the back of a junk car and water got past the vlaves. The advice i gave you is what i did with it, slapped the heads on and now the engnie has been a daily driver fro 9 months, does not smoke or use excessive oil( beyond what a subaru is expected to use up)

Ej22e weight
MilesFox replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I could imagine a 2.5 could weigh less than a 2.2 with larger bores. not by much, maybe not even a pound. But my suzuki gs1000 engine weighs less than a gs750 engine being of hte same block design. My colt trooper mk3 /22 revolver weighs more than a .357 with the smaller bore in the barrel. A short block can be picked up and chucked across the room. -
Need to know if i can do this!
MilesFox replied to subi dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmmm, can't exactly do it with a drift and a hammer, good luck without the socket, and forget it if there is rust. -
So i got an email today offering to sell me both cars for 1300. its a little more than previously offered, so i asssume that is the amount they need to get a different car. ! am about to sell my ambulance for 1500, so there is the money. plus the legacy of the daeal can be my winter car, as i now have a hub to repair it, and i wont have to part it off because i already parted out a 95 for its 4eat, harness, and i have an ej25d from a forester and a pair of ej22t heads to work with. Otherwise i can just run the ej25d stock for doing the head gaskets. I suppose i can start trimming my harness down now:)

Whats the lowest riding rear strut for GL/Loyale
MilesFox replied to AWD J3wman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would guess a 4wd xt for the rears, and a FWD xt for the font would be the shortest strut. -
Drain the oil and see if coolant comes out, it will settle on the pan and not necessarily mix into the oil until enough is there to suck up in the oil pump. coolant eats bearings.

Why do you guys love the EJ22? Confused...
MilesFox replied to nobangmycar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My engine has a presumed 97 ej25d and ej22e heads form a 95. From what i understand with DOHC is the valves will hit eachother in regard to ej25d. -
For 3500 is not too bad. If you knew what you were looking at, you could determine if service has been done. You can avert the HG problem by using new coolant and the block conditioner. This is best considered with a new water pump, along with timing belt and idlers. It is the water pump or idlers that ruin the belt when they fail more then the belt failing itself. Any 99-2000 and up are going to be in the same basket with when was the timing belt done, and has the HG popped yet. Perhaps you can convince your dealer to go over the 100000 mile service recommendations and verify what's good and what will need work. I myself am not afraid of getting into a car that needs work if i can determine what the work is and the cost of doing it. If you do buy from a private seller, make sure it has a full maintenance history and papers.

you can interchange with outback 95-99 impreza is different. The front fenders rust because dirt accumulates there from the cowl. IF you can get the mud flaps off and unbilt the bottom of the fender, wash it out. Even take off the fender and treat it. If you make it to milwaukee, i have 3 doors, 2 fenders and a tailgate if you can come get them. on a side note, i have the hollow shell of the car, so if you want me to cut out some body sections for you , let me know.

If i were to guess i would say you have a carb block. I remember the turbo pistons being much more dished in the oval part, and the spfi would only have the valve reliefs. The mpfi would have the breather on the top of the crank case. otherwise, cab and spfi block look the same.

If the wheel is seizing up, the problem is probably rthe whee bearing. This requires a special pin socket and a press. Perhaps remove the trailing arm and take it into the shop and have them press in the bearing for you. You will save labor if yhey re not removing it from the car. You will need a 3/16" punch for the roll pin, and 14mm and 7mm tools. -
Well, there is an ea82 available here in milwaukee if we can figure out how to get it to you.

If its anything loke the old models, the manual mode will allow you to start off in 2nd gear such as trying to start off on slippery road if 1st gear breaks traction from the torque. Try playing around with it according to your driving style. It doesnt hurt the engine to have some engine braking now and againa s it allows the engine to wear evenly against the bearings and cylinders vs all the load being from one way all the time.

If the fan is not working. Suspect the switch. The fan should at least wrk on #4 even if the resistors are blown out.
