No start condition - Out of ideas
MilesFox replied to rain_man_rich's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The iac would be the module on the thermostat. With your continuing symptoms, i would second the idea of corroded terminals on the CTS pigtail. Also, the whole intake harness grounds to one of the manifold bolts. You may want to consider cleaning/rebuilding the Throttle Position Sensor, ans the variable contacts (closed, variable, WOT) do wig out on these engines. -
You may have a hard time finding long enough 10mm bolts with 1.25 thread. But if the thread is ruined, just use a 10mm bolt with a more common thread (1.0 or 1.5) and use a nut on the end. Any time you go junkyarding or parting off subarus, it is a good idea to keep any of the original bolts because you can't find them on the shelf in general.

This car is not a honda. Please refer to a different body of knowledge so that you don't ruin your car.

no. you will need a different belt. you can just go with the shorter belt that is already there. if you can find a dual pulley for the alt, you can use 2 of that same belt. If you ditch the AC, you may have to invent some bracketry, or you would have to source an alt bracket from a model without AC. ea81 alternator brackets will work as well. you can take up a; the ac components without discharging tha lines if that is what you are worried about.

YOu will become a subaru expert before you know it.

Looking at 1981 GL wagon, requesting advice.
MilesFox replied to Subaru_dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Get it. Broken axle? just put it in 4wd and drive it away. then fix the axle when you get home. -
Studs thru pulley= 110mm shaft. Studs on pulley, (pulley bolts to WP)= 105mm shaft (most common with turbo/xt) either water pump will work with either setup as long as you have the right pulley. Basically the water pump you use is based on which pulley it has.

odd static/buzz from radio on AM stations
MilesFox replied to TomRhere's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I get electronic noise thru my am stations in the 95 legacy caused by the HID headlights. I only get the noise on am1130 but not 620 (the stations i listen to) I would imagine you would have to target a specific frequency to filter the noise. My car has a modern sony xplod head unit. -
Exercise proper coolant fill procedire. Full the block by the upper hose first. Run the heat as if the coolant level is too low, the heat will go cold. Lets say if you had a leak, running the heat is a good way to know when to top off when it goes cold. Even if you have to run the heat in the summer. good luck.

1982 GL Wagon front wheel bearings?
MilesFox replied to unibrook's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There are 2 per side, all 4 being the same part number. -
You could refuel at a lot of U-Haul locations by the gallon.

I would suppose that the fuel cylinder from an RV would be of the right type to be made road legal

Be carefil of where you place the spare tire jack, and find some way to stand up the car with a jack stand or blocks of wood. the wheel itself works good for this. Do not use concrete blocks. You will want the weight of the car off the jack so it is not rocking around. Although the factory jack is designed to use on the pinch welds, beware of rusty spots and the jack can distort the rocker sills. The front tow loops under the bumper make great jacking points, so long as you get it up high enough to remove the wheel.

Downshifting shouldn't wear the clutch if you match rpms, double clutch, etc. Bad driving habits ruin brakes and clutches, not the mechanical operation of the running parts. This thread is flawed science if there is no control amongst varying driving habits and experience levels to use scientific method in this theory. It reads more like politics

I have a brown 3door I found in Fort Wayne. Funny thing is i move away from there, and then the cleanest ea82's start showing up there. I would bet the car drove in from a rust free state. If there is no rust get it. I would get it myself if you passed it up. But i already have 5 soobs and no room for another one. I recommend yo be mechanically inclined to own this car, because i would hate to see it go to junk over a broken axle or timing belt. these cars are easy to work on Good luck

Welcome. Check out the Subaru Retrofitting side of the forum for ideas http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forum/18-subaru-retrofitting/ If you are referring to the ej25d, you can swap heads and use its bottom end with the heads original to the recipient car. What i am saying is in general. Do some reading in the retrofit forum for specific engine recpied. The ej25d would have a different intake manifold and/or wiring harness/maf/throttle body. Mechanically parts do interchange.
