  1. I still have yet to produce an axle video. I have shot the footage, but i just have to edit and upload them. The existing videos will show you how to disengage the axles form the transmission, though.
  2. take the whole diff out with the axles and set the works on the ground. If you get the pin out, the cups will probably be seized to the spline. Use plenty 'blaster and heat with a propane torch, and a 3 lb hammer, whack, rotate, whack, etc. You can take the axle off the inner doj to be easier to whack at. use a hammer with a wedge end.
  3. Yeah my 15 mpg was regular grade 10% ethanol. I went with mid grade this time, i will see if that helps. I might have to make some sort of baffle for the tailpipe to help the torque. If none of that helps, i would probably be best to go back to a stock header, or get cams. the last 95 legacy i got averaged 18mpg with stock header and no muffler, hollow cats, but it ran so rich it would sting my eyes.
  4. I bought the 100 dollar set from napa. I could have gone with the 30 dllar set. I think i failed on my installation anyway. You will probably want to have the bearing pressed in to be seated fully. At least you can get the ring off. Scott has my pin socket if you need the right tool.
  5. What kind of fuel economy are you getting. My exhaust is similar less the stack, having the cherry bomb in the mid-pipe and a borla replica header. I am getting 15 mpg, that is 7.5 gallons to 105 miles when i filled up last.
  6. Whoops, i replied without looking at the date. But anyway it turns up in search result as information. reviving an old thread is not necessarily bad if more relevant information is posted in the same topic.
  7. Try using a damp terry towel and an iron to remove the stain. what this does is let the stain migrate from one fabric to another where vacuum won't pull it. I suppose you could try this from the reverse side, since the stain is probably settled in the weave, and why you see in the pile is what has transferred from the concentrate in the weave from the vacuum. Can you discern what sort of stain it is?
  8. pay that if it has new tires, brakes, struts, seals, timing belts, etc. If the car sat for 10 yrs, expect leaky seals, dryrot tires, old brake fluid, timing belts that will break as soon as you start driving it. If this is so, offer 1500 and the seller will realize there is only so much he can sell it for, and take the money rather than sit on the car.
  9. Impreza with forester struts. Noy oyou can buy one that you don't have to swap. I see these being swapped with sti parts
  10. In regard to valve seals, you will see blue smoke when decelerating, such as letting off the gas and coasting in gear. The valve springs have to come out to change them. generally you have to remove the heads and you will want to use a clamp style valve spring compressor. The other way to do it with heads on-car is to gert an air fitting that threads into the sparkplug to pressurize the cylinder and hold the valve in place, and use a normal style valvre spring compressor. With my experience, the tool has a hard time fitting around the double spring to get the keepers out. You could also stuff a rag in the cylinder through the spark plug hole to pack the cylinder and keep the valves from falling through. This is a somewhat difficult operation based on using tool effectively, or by removing the heads, but is easier with the clamp style if you already have the heads off for other reasons. Black soot on the tailpipe is more conducive to the carb jetting and the altitude. Look n the emissions sticker under the hood to see if the car is eqipped with a high altitude kit. MY experience with a high altitude carb is the single barrel carter-weber which is different than the standard hitachi. The tailpipe would be more oily if you were burning oil, and you would smell it readily.
  11. Welcome!!. I just sold my 85 gl, you just missed it. It's the one that ran the east side for the last 5 years. There are a few that turn up. I have lots'o'parts for them. We got a local thread on dirty impreza as well, check it: http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14090
  12. you might have the firing order off. Typically, if #2 and #4 are crossed, you get a backfire at the throttle. rotation is couterclockwise 1,3,2,4 with #1 being the closest to the clip on the back of the cap. Double check the timing belts. At 0 deg TDC, the cam sprockets will be pointing at the hard edges of the valve cover, with the passenger side pointing at the bottom edge. I am only explainin:burnout:g this since you mention you had the engine apart and back together.
  13. this is most likely. i wouldnt get into head gaskets unless oyu ahve cooling issues. if you are afraid you are ingesting coolant, look at the intake gaskets first before anything else.
  14. try the engine temp sensor on the back of the intake. VSS won't do anything but cost too much for a part that should only be a few bucks, and not cure anything.
  15. If this thread had a "like" button, i just clicked it.
  16. replace the relays. my 94 did this, and i just unplugged the abs module since i don't trust abs. my dude's 92 svx did this too. this is a documented semi-common problem, wich is related to overheating relays to the abs module.
  17. If the master cylinder pumped dry, you will have to bleed it by hand to get pressure. Also, if you have an MT with hill holder, depress the clutch while bleeding to ensure the rears bleed out properly.
  18. 1. if it doensnt run properly, it is frustrating 2. a weber is less complicated than a hitachi 3. if it doesnt run properly, it becomes frustrating. Hitachis are not bad, but throw one at the average joe to figure out the rats' nest of vacuum lines and solenoids, and he would want a weber, too.
  19. The transistor on the coil bracket may have failed. Check for fuse#5 if it is blown, as this supplies a 12v constant to the ECU.
  20. you should be able to mount the single piston caliper to the existing caliper bracket and use the existing rotor, and use pads for the single piston.
  21. The popular opinion agrees this car is rare due to the low mileage, clean condition, combined with a low year and model package. IT is worthy pof showroom collection. As far as building up a car, one could find grandma's ld gl that diesd from lack of oil changes, and doesn't necessarily hae to be turbo to begin with. Do a proper clean build, and leave the appearance and interior of the car as stock-looking as possible. Did you pay a ridiculous price fr this car?
  22. if you are lifting an ea81 3 inches, you can use an ea82 double u-joint steering linkage and it will fit, being longer, with no mods.
