loyale lacking power????
cole098 replied to scoooobie_du88's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks like Thursday if it doesnt rain, my Godson and I are gonna mess with the EA82.. Gonna look at the belts as well as open up the Cat, and then use Seafoam and Techron. Gonna seafoam the intake.. -
SubaruJunkie, how would I revive the motor is she stalls ???? I have a issue with no pull out power in 1st gear, she idles fine and doesnt stall out, just no get up and go in 1st. Its so bad at times its gonna get me killed.. I notice the hotter it is the worse it is. 2nd gear has a similar issue at times. It feels like the motor is boggin down is all... So Im wondering if Seafoam will be the answer. Maybe the SPFI will clear up with use, or maybe I need to knock the guts out of the cat. Any other suggestions ???? Also I smell something burning, now it almost reminds me of the clutch burning, but I dont notice it slipping at all. I have driven clutch for 20 years and never had this issue... Joe

loyale lacking power????

loyale lacking power????
cole098 replied to scoooobie_du88's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry to jump a thread but, I'm afraid my 1988 Ea82 wagon stick has the same problem, no power when pulling out in first gear, second has similar hesitation. The car does not suffer from low idle and it never, ever stalls. The only thing I do notice is I smell something burning, like the clutch was burning. Now I have been driving stick for 20 years and have only ever burned out a clutch once and that was in a Nissan Truck that was stuck in 4 feet of snow years ago. So Im not sure what is wrong with my car, the engine light works but does not come on as to say Hey I need attention. So would all of you advise me to look at belts or something else ? Now I have no clue how to tell if the belts are good, bad or in wrong. Any Tips ????? Thanks Joe -

Clay Bar and Old Paint more coupe drooliness added
cole098 replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks good, I never did the clay bar thing.. I always wanted to wet sand and use rubbing compound on one of my cars, just never attempted it .. Im sure you could google how to wet sand a car... A long time ago, I did spray paint a old motorcycle trunk and then wet sanded and used compound on it and it turned out great, you could never tell that I used a can of spary paint to paint it .. Any chance of you fitting another Rad in from a NON Subaru donor car ? I know my old Pontiac needed a bigger rad, so I ended up putting a BIG CHEVY TRUCK RAD IN. Did the same to my Mazda ... Joe -
I had a 86 Brat that was sitting in my yard for the last 6 years, Rusted beyond repair so bad that the mustache bar was on the ground. Well I parked it there in 2002, I got her for nothing, in fact I drove it there, the Brats engine was overheating when I got her. Well I kept it for parts LOL So over the weekend my Godson wanted it for a bush car. So he gets his friends father to come up with a truck and trailer. I figure there is no way this thing will ever start, I hooked the jump cables to her, I dump two gall of gas in the tank and she turned over only to die out. I WAS LIKE WOW So we try starter fluid same result... So instead of pushing the Brat up the trailer and giving up we decide to have the friends father sit in the engine compartment and dump fuel down the carb while the car is hooked to jumper cables. Would you believe I drove the Brat up onto the car trailer while the dude was sitting in the engine compartment dumping fuel down the carb. Good thing I had long Batter Jumper Cables LOL So we figure the fuel line is all blocked up. My Godson calls me after the 20 mile trailer trip to the house and tells me, Gee ... I guess all the movement on the trailer some how unblocked the fuel problem. Now when ya jump her she starts and runs no problem.. Im still shocked that this thing would start with old fuel/new fuel mix after 6 years sitting ... I should have filmed it and sent it to Subaru to add to there new TV commercial campaign LOL I mean you would have had to see this Brat, Looked like it fell down a coal hole, Rusted Dented, HOLES IN FLOOR.. Did you guys see a ea81 engine on ebay at a current bid of 250 bucks. I did a search for "SUBARU GL " and found it .. WOW, are they in short supply that it is worth that ???

Hmmm but it only has 110K ... again the Tick is just gone no matter what rpm
-
A while back I posted a thread about my EA82 tapping or ticking when I pushed the car a little hard on a hill climb. So I parked it with the intention of Seafoaming it and have yet to attempt it. Today I start and run her and the TICK OF DEATH has disappeared. Is it magic ? Was there divine intervention ? OR Did the space aliens that stole someones subaru parts abduct my car in the middle of the night and fix it ???? And place a chip in my car somewhere to keep track of it ??? I guess I will never know... Joe

EA82 Emergency Brake Handle
cole098 replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, Im gonna have to hit a yard up and go get one to play with. Who knows when there is a will there is a way right. One think I liked about cars from the 70's and older, Shifter was on the steering colum and e-brake was under the dash as a pedal. -

EA82 Emergency Brake Handle
cole098 replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmmmm, Tom Do you think its worth doing in you opinion ? Any chance you could take a pic of the handle since you already have it apart and post it on here ? If not its no big deal.. Hey thanks for going and taking time to dig the handle out and taking a look see at it. Joe -
EA82 Emergency Brake Handle
cole098 replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is what I was thinking on doing, Really the reason why I want to shorten it up is it will free up room to cut a hole out in the plastic to place a cup holder. Take a cup holder from a junk car, cut it to fit the hole and glue it in. I have another car non subaru that I also want to do this to. I was thinking that it might not require much more effort to engage the brake because of the way it designed already, with a thumb release button. Problem is I have not taken it apart yet to see how it's made or designed. Im hoping I dont have to screw with the cable itself. Any input on this, anybody ever take the handle mechanicism apart?
