  1. Oh dont be sorry Chef Tim... I just wanted to let everyone know about the prices ADVANCE AUTO sells new ones for is all... 65 bucks new is really good dont ya think???
  2. I had a bad experience once with a local parts store... Not a cain store called "BIG A" parts.. The axels only lasted about 8 months..... 55 bucks is a good deal.... I checked chef tims web site he suggested and they are like 98 bucks... I guess the 98 dollar ones are not new.... Any other stores or web sites you guys suggest???? And thanks all for the replys .... Joe in Pa
  3. I called my local Subaru dealer to ask him if they can order me "NEW" half shafts for my 84 wagon 4x4... He tells me yes but they are "REMANS" . He continued to tell me that my subie is to old that is why I cant get new half shafts... IS THIS TRUE.. CAN I GET NEW HALF SHAFTS MADE BY SUBARU OEM someplace???? He gave me a price for a REAN at 139 bucks... Thanks All Joe 2/13/04 Well I see someone on ebay has GCK NEW halfshafts for our subies... price 89.00 a pair and 27.00 shipping cost.. So that comes to 58 bucks for one.... Turns out that ADVANCE AND AUTO ZONE SELL THE SAME ONES and as you guys stated life time warranty.. ADVANCE prices..... 4. Chris, I rent a tow dolly anytime I need to tow a car... Works great even when being pulled by a 6cyl. truck... If you do rent a tow dolly get one that has a swivel base, makes it easier for turning....... I think all the new ones and the ones U-Haul rent are all swivel base tow dolly's.... Your wagon will be safe and sound... Joe
  5. Thanks to everyone that replied back to my questions.. I will check the drive shaft this weekend... Joe
  6. Sure why wouldnt I answer the post Skip.... Well poor wording it is.... The manaul trans has gear oil and some some ATF in it... The rear dif. just has gear oil in it....... I guess I need a english comp class.... Skip you seem like you are pissed at me??? The ATF thing with gear oil idea came from a thread several months ago... I also spoke to a trans shop and a dealer that just sells subaru's... Both have told me that some ATF in the trans worked well to quiet some grinding noise in the older subaru trans... The trans shop owner has even done this in his subaru with good results.... Since my knowledge of cars is limited I try to ask several people in the field what they think as well as fellow board members like yourself that have vast knowledge of these cars... The trans has been working fine its just some noise in the rear.... If you think I should change the trans fluid again I will do so ASAP... After all I love the car and have no intention on off roading her... I use my wagon as a daily driver and would like to have the car for years to come.... I even on the way to work take a alternate route to avoid over taxing the cars engine on steep inclines... On one thread I have read that some guys put a quart of ATF in the engine to clean it out and quiet things down.. That I have not done..... Thanks Skip for replying back... if you think I should cahnge the trans fluid again I will do so.... Joe
  7. Hey ALL, Well heres another question... My 1984 wagon 4 speed dual range makes a deep bass sound humming noise in the rear WHEN..... the cars 4wd is in use only when my foot is totally off the gas pedal... When I depress the gas pedal the humming noise goes away... What do you guys think???? I have changed the gear oil and put a quart of ATF in with it and the manual trans fluid was also changed.... Thanks All for looking at my question..... Joe in Pa
  8. Well I have had many cars... My first subaru was a 84 wagon 4wd I purchased for 750 bucks about 7 years ago... NO RUST and air to boot... I sold it to a friend that moved back to Pa from NY because he lost his job and house, car.. He needed wheels and being a good friend I gave him a nice deal.... Well I was sorry I gave it to him... It was Moss Green and the goof spray painted it black amd then sold it latter on without offering it back to me first... So I moved on to several cars and trucks and finally after finding this web site the sickness was to much for me and I fell off the WAGON LOL AGAIN... The hunt started.. So finally I found again after searching and traveling to different states looking at Brats and Hatches and Wagons another NON RUSTED 84 WAGON.... And I fell in love again... I FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR IN BAD WEATHER ALWAYS>>> Only car so far that has given me PEACE OF MIND in bad weather.... Now my gal she does not understand the sickness.. But as soon as I find her a EA82 wagon in auto 4wd she will, OH YES SHE WILL.... For now Im still looking for that elusive non rusted Brat and PLOW setup..
  9. I had a dealer tell me one time that he used carb cleaner on seats to clean them up... I have no clue if it works.. maybe try it on a junk carpet before you do it..
  10. Paul, I will try to locate for you the info you require.. .. Email me or post if you get the info you need in the meantime...... I will work on it ....... If all goes well maybe I will end up with one also... Joe
  11. Boy I just learned a lesson in ea81 seat frames... My 84 wagons driver side seat frame was in half so I figured I would swap out the whole seat from a 86 brat... Well the frame fit BUT it does not slide back as far as the wagons seat frame did.... does anyone know if a hatch seat slides back as far as my wagons frame.. Sorry for the dumb question... Joe
  12. Say I have a 1984 4wd wagon... can anyone tell me if the front half shafts/ cv axels from a 1984 2wd auto trans wagon be used in my 4wd wagon??? Thanks
  13. Hey Joe here in Pa.. please check your email.. I sent you a email in ref, to a wagon.. Thanks Joe
  14. Any ideas what is wrong its was moving real slow and now it just died????
  15. Thanks for the info on the cars... can I ask you what made you pick a Forester over the outback????? Joe
  16. Cool Beans... Im looking for a blue cloth/ vinyl seat in low back style... The bearing thing if I try it will have to wait til spring... NO garage to tinker in .......... I would like a newer subie to add.. Im considering trading in my nissan for a nice used outback or forester... Just not sure which one is better.... OWNERS OF OUTBACKS AND FORESTERS WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF YOUR CARS??? PROS AND CONS??? Thanks Joe
  17. Dave its doing ok... still looking for a nice non ripped Low back style front driver seat.... I needs some attention like possible wheel bearings front left and maybe a new half shaft on one side.... I use it around pottsville and to Reading if it snows... So I dont use her as a daily driver... Im goona por-15 the underside in the spring as well as remove the front fenders and por-15 all that as well as the door seams and even inside the doors... She has a few dents but the paint is good and she still looks good.. Im hope Moosens will sell me his plow setup..... I was unable to locate that plow in the Haven area... I have driven that road many times and I know where that field is you saw it in.. Im hoping one day to catch someone outside and strike up a conversation... You still looking for a EA81 car, wagon, hatch or Brat?????
  18. So this model MY04 XT Forester is a 6 Cyl???????????? or is it the turbo 4 cyl????
  19. Sirs, I understand there are two different types of EA81 motors. one is a Hydralic Lifter motor and the other is??????? what is the difference and which one is a better motor???? as far as performance and maintenance???? Thanks Oh Great Subie Masters........................
  20. My computer loads so slow on the subaru web site so I figure its easier to ask you guys if they make a forester in a V6 model.. if so what years???? I know they make it in a outback, does anybody know what years in outbacks they started making a V6?? and was it limited to the LL Bean model only??? And finally what is everyone ones opinion on the V6 engine??? Thanks Joe
  21. Hope everyone has a nice Holiday.... Thanks for all your help in the last year in ansering my Subie questions... Joe in Pa:D
