  1. Nice spin you put on there to cover the fact that you had to switch to an EJ-powered car to beat me! :-p Seriously, though, WJM's car is very quick. I took a couple runs in it and if I hadn't completely hosed the finish section by entering it too late, I seriously think I'd have been in the 44s on that run (I did a 46.0 on that run as it was) and that only my 2nd run in the car. Honestly, it surprised me how quick that car is. The fact that it was pretty nimble didn't surprise me due to the lighter weight, but it gripped quite well to have old R-compounds on it, handled very well (though the setup was slightly twitchy for my tastes), and was very quick. The lack of torque (vs. my 2.5RS with cams) and the sheer cornering grip (vs. my 225/50-15 V710s) was notable, but the car was far quicker than I expected it to be. It almost makes me which I'd gone through with autocrossing my RX when I had it. A bit more cornering grip and some more grunt and that could be a very good local SM competitor (though Will seems intent on FSP now). How he'll fare against Geoff Zimmer's FSP Rabbit remains to be seen (especially considering that FSP Rabbit has frequently outrun the entire SM class at events in the past), but Will's crazy enough to go for it anyway, so go for it!
  2. Which means mine are too low then...LOL. Of course, from what I've read 350-400 lbs is about the max spring rate that the off-the-shelf Konis will handle (I'm running 350 lb 8" springs (Ground Control setup) front and rear), so any more would require getting the Konis revalved. I am seriously tempted to go to a much higher spring rate next season and send the Konis off to get revalved to match (especially now that I have the 00LGT as a daily driver). The Whiteline swaybars I have installed have poly bushings and the top mounts consist of bushingless camber/castor plates in the front and STi group N mounts in the rear. All the remaining suspension bushings are stock, though. Camber, probably, but I do have a good bit of castor on this thing. I need to get an alignment done, so I have the exact numbers to compare. Well lately, you haven't been able to keep up with me driving my car, but you've been known to lay down some really fast runs in both cars, so I guess we'll see when the time comes.
  3. Yeah, but autocross is always more fun when you smack talk first! Actually, I've yet to run against his RX when it was in top form (it was always vs him in the GL-10 or vs him codriving my own car ), but he did have some impressive finishes with it when it was fully prepped (I just wish it could have coincided with me actually attending those events as well). The RS vs RX battle should be very interesting. Flywheel estimates put my RS (cams, exhaust and a flywheel is all I have for "power mods" at the moment, most of my mods are suspension related) close to 200hp/210lb-ft and with an unbelievably flat torque curve, but even though my car is relatively light (mid-2700s in race trim) he most definitely has the weight advantage and he should be making at least similar (if not greater) peak hp numbers. I should have more cornering grip than him, though, unless he suddenly gets ahold of some grippier, wider tires (I'm on 225/50-15 V710s (and very new V710s at that) at the moment).
  4. You mean "ready" as in "ready to get owned by EJ powa", right Will!? :-p :burnout:
  5. But, like I mentioned, this was only because he had instant-on radar (so there was no radar to detect until he fired it up). When they aren't using instant-on, I detect them FAR before I can actually see them.
  6. No radar detector is good enough to remove any chance of getting a ticket. There are just too many variables (plus the existence instant-on radar) to have a perfect detector (and if your detector saves you from a laser ticket, then you got lucky that you got the reflections from another car being hit instead of the laser striking yours). That said, though, the directional features of the V1 have saved my butt in several situations where a detector without direction pointers could have led me into a ticket. One recent case was that I had just taken an exit ramp and the detector started to go off, so I backed off to legal speeds and spotted what was obviously an unmarked police car parked on the side of the road (there was no one in it, but it's common for some of the locals (especially State Troopers) to leave their radar running even with the car off). I passed and got ready to ease my speed back up, but happened to glance over and noticed that the radar was still pointing ahead (and still showing only 1 bogey). The radar hit was not from the unmarked car! So I kept my speed low and up ahead comes a State Trooper around the bend. Like I mentioned before, though, instant-on reduces the effectiveness of any radar detector. Several times, I've seen the car ahead of time and started to slow down, then once I started getting close, WHAM, the V1 jumps to full-power for a few seconds, then dead silence again. Lesson learned: the best detector you can get is still no replacement for watching for cops.
  7. Well I was getting some very special pricing from him, so I have no idea what the cost would have been normally for that setup. You could email him and ask, though. I would imagine that standard price would be similar to his price for a regular port/polished VF7 + his standard $299 fee for compressor wheel upgrades (though it may be more, due to the extra machining involved).
  8. Well, since I never went through with having the turbo built (I kinda put a hold on the RX project when I bought my Legacy Turbo), I'll divulge my hybrid plans. The plan was a ported/polished VF7 with a TD04 compressor wheel. According to Jerry (i.e. Deadbolt) the intake housing does have to be significantly modified, but the TD04 compressor wheel can be made to fit. While the flow wouldn't be quite as high as an actual TD04, it would spool a good bit faster, which would make it better for autocross.
  9. Y'know when Pleiades's MBC was doing that, he had it installed backwards. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but it couldn't hurt to check it. FWIW, my home-built MBC has worked perfectly since I first built it (and it's a ball/spring style).

  11. I do agree my car seemed to be one of the quicker Subarus out there this weekend (excepting the blisteringly fast ESP STi that Joel Fehrman and Shane Metzger were driving). That said, though, Tom Hoppe still outran me by over a half-second in his STX WRX (though he did seem quite impressed with my car based on his practice runs). But you didn't, so my 28.690 reigned supreme in Street Mod! In fact, I even ended up 12th RAW! ...and yes, that clutch is getting replaced very soon and I will never buy another Kevlar clutch again, as they overheat way too easily. At least it does fully recover once you let it cool off for a while, though. I wish I had taken more than one run in your car, but even that was enough to pick up a LOT of information. The power was quite sufficient (especially so, once the boost kicked in) and the weight was quite good (though I still say you should have taken the back seat out, as that's a lot of extra weight to lug around). Sure, there was a bit of lag, but not enough to be a major issue or anything. So while you still didn't have the sheer power/torque of my cammed EJ25, you still had an ample power/weight ratio with decent enough power response to make for a competitive SM car (at least within the local region). The tires were (as you noted above) simply not up to par. The 205 front / 185 rear BFG R-1 setup worked adequately, but simply didn't have enough grip to be significantly faster than good street tires (honestly, you would have likely been just as fast on 205 Azenis). Even with half a season on my Victoracers (which includes quite a few events, many with co-drivers), they were FAR more grippy than your R1s (and it wasn't just because they were 225 width either, your R1s simply had too many heat-cycles to be competitive). FRESH R-compound tires (and while you are at it, 225s wouldn't hurt) would make light years of difference here. Suspension was good (definitely better handling than my RX with it's stock suspension), but still wasn't quite there. The spring rates felt good, but the damping wasn't high enough for transitional movements (like the slaloms and lane changes). Something like Konis or KYB AGXs would make a marked improvement in this area. Also, some bigger swaybars would help a ton to eliminate some of that body roll (I'd go up in both front and rear as the front has a bigger effect on body roll and helps turn in, and the rear will help improve rotation). What swaybars and spring rates are you running (I know you have the modified coilovers in the rear and GR2s in the front but I don't recall your spring rates or sway bar sizes)?
  12. Maybe it's just more power than the driver can handle! LMAO :burnout: :burnout:
  13. I recently picked up a 1st gen Legacy as well ('91 Turbo), but I was already on the "dark side" having owned my Impreza long before I got the RX. (to Legacy777): Thanks for the headlamp fix link, I was wondering that myself as the headlamps on my 91 Turbo are quite yellowed. I've searched the crap out of Legacy Central for various things about this car already, but hadn't seen that post yet.
  14. Probably due to the dual-stage boosters that the later cars (including the Impreza 2.5RSes) use. Braided lines and upgraded fluid helps, but the real "fix" is a single-stage booster. Personally, I just got used to the feel of it and I'm fine with it now. You mean that the steering feels heavier or what? Heavier is a good thing...I hate cars that have too much power steering and thus have a light feel to the steering. Also, don't forget that the car is actually heavier after all (about 200 lbs heavier in stock vs stock trim). Just wait'll you take my Street Mod 2.5RS for a spin at the 24-hour...we'll see what you think of 2.5RS handling then!
  15. I take it this is dynoguy's car that Pleiades was considering purchasing? Welcome to the world of EJ-power! :burnout: FYI, these mods put you in either STX or DSP for autocross.
