Power Steering on gen one?
SUBARU3 replied to the sucker king's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
No Gen 1 had power steering. I doubt it to be possible to do without some major work. -
Remember that the 1995 and 1996 EJ22s are also excellent engines. No piston slap, no head gasket issues, no rod knock, non-interference. (Same as the 1994 and back EJ22s). The problem was in 1997 they went interference with all engines and was the downhill slide in engine durability for Subaru. Also, the 99 Forester and the 99 Impreza got the new/improved SOHC Phase 2 EJ25 1 year before the Legacy in 2000. Todd

I'm bad...I bought a Dodge!

Oh definitely not a beater or a racer. More of a daily driver. I'm restoring it somewhat to as close to stock as possible. I'm not dumping a ton of $$ in to it though, but you can do a lot to these older cars for fairly cheap and have them looking nice and running great! Todd -

Well, if you are headed back, I could take a few little things. Email me your # and I'll give you a call. Thanks, Todd -
Remember, you can use ANY strut assembly from a Subaru 77-79 2wd or 4wd. The only difference is the height adjustment, so that drives a different and longer cartridge for the 4WDs. If you use a 2WD strut assembly, you lose the height adjustment and the front is just normal height. (No biggy) The front strut cartridges are easier to find for the 2WDs. Todd

It has to be a 79-82 for some of the items. The 4 door would have been 84 or 84. These would work from that. lug wrench/jack sunroof rubber or whole sunroof Rear view mirror Rear emblem "Imported for Dodge" "Colt" Clips off of aircleaner. The things that hold the lid on. They twist off with pliers. Or the whole aircleaner assembly. 4 Speed shifter knob and the other ragnge selector knob. Radio speaker (Right front) If you can take some pics of it...that would be great! Thanks, Todd -

Welcome back to the club! Looks good and well worth saving. Have fun with it. They are getting rarer and rarer! Todd -
Knowledge is power with these older ones. Stay well connected to the small group of enthuaists and you will do fine. Yes, they can be daily drivers, (not daily BEATERS....they don't do well with that) and the parts that are harder to find won't keep you from getting to work. Myself and others have PLENTY of both the mechanicals and the goodies to share. Yes, the front weatherstrip is available and the rear glass weatherstrip can be substituted with a VW beetle one perfectly! Todd

Nah..... the car is complete. There are the things that I want perfect and or better than what's there. Example, the grill has a crack and one of the mudflaps is torn off. Found a spare engine with 10K on it! It's really a fun little car! Todd -

SURVEY New rear glass rubber weatherstrips???
SUBARU3 replied to SUBARU3's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The 1972 -1977 Bug works fine. I believe others do too like the 40's and 50's. I use the CAL (California look) with no reveal. It's just solid black. http://shop.westcoastmetric.com/index.php West Coast Metric has them. These things are available in lots of VW stores. I wish Subaru parts were as easy to come by! Todd -
