  2. I can beat that price by $100.....shipped! I have had over a dozen made. They are like the original stripes. You can have your choice of background color and "BRAT" lettering color. The multicolor strips are pretty standard. You can add the "SUBARU" lettering, as seen in the pic for $15 extra. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Litera...978-brat-a.jpg Todd
  3. Hey B What does he charge? Does he have patterns? How long of a turnaround time? Todd
  4. Boy, if someone had some tin snips, I could use the sheet metal on the right lower area, right behind the rear wheel. (The painted exterior metal, from the bottom up 6". Makes for an easier repair.
  5. Okie Dokie.....I'll take your word for it. I'll watch it closely, but one more big dump of fluid and it's outta there! Todd
  6. True, I know Subis like to be driven! I'm not really a backyard mechanic. (Well, I work in the backyard) LOL But, I'm pretty seasoned with Subarus. I have owned many, rebuilt many things from engines on....but never a rack! I own 6 now! Can't see that it would be hard to reseal. Has anyone done it? The seal kit is pretty reasonable compared to a rack. Todd
  7. I guess the UV thing is the same in New Mexico. I'm buying a Legacy from there with the same thing. It's a 95 though and not too bad yet. I might have it re-painted. Todd
  8. Does anyone have an unlimited car-fax account? Need 4s3bd6552s7211201 run. Thanks!!! Todd
  9. Thanks for the info. Yes, the wheels were indeed turned fairly sharp to the right. No evidence today of continued leaking near that bad. I think you might have a point about a spot of corrosion. I see a seal kit in the parts manual, but I'm wondering if the rack needs to come out to service it? 67K is pretty low mileage for this to fail/leak. Todd
  10. Ok......I need a GOOD, early 80s, 2 wire, internally controlled, electronic disty. I think that might be the solution to the problem. I doubt my friend will find a CA electronic control unit. Ideas? Todd
  11. Well, here I am at a used car lot looking at a Legacy for my mom. I'm talking up Subaru and what a great car they are, when I walk back to my Impreza with the sales guy and my car is unloading power steering fluid by the boat load! How embarassing! Anyway, it had a "slight occasional drip", but something changed in a hurry! It was running out of the passenger side boot. About a 1/2 pint came out. I filled up the pump and drove home. Now it won't leak!!! Question... Am I in for a new rack? Are there seals that can be replaced? It's a 95 Impreza L with 67K Thanks much! Todd
  12. Actually, this is for a friend in CA. I'm completely unfamilar with the CA system. I sent him a 1979 Nippondenso unit and the wiring is different. I'm going to have to look at the 2 and see what is different. Todd
  13. Looking for a 1978, California electronic ignition unit for someone. Here is a pic: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8179/1000753vx7.jpg It is mounted on the firewall and is unusual, 1978 was still Points for the rest of the US. It's an oddball. The standard Nippondenso ignition unit won't work. Todd
  14. The inner right boot is prone to pre-mature failure, from heat off the exhaust. I added a heat shield and it seems to have helped. Severe lock to lock turning will tear outside joints too. I limit "lock over" steering in my gen 1s. Todd
  15. Put the carpet in. It reduces noise, easier to slide things in and out and adds a finishing touch. You can actually touch up the black carpet with black fabric paint. You can also get the exact carpet by the yard at JC Whitney. Todd
  16. You can use the VW beetle connector too. It works fine and you get better performance! I put one in my GF. Just use the metal bushings from your old one in the VW one. Todd
  17. I just have a really tight 4 speed/4WD EA-71. Shifts like new/low mileage of 74K. Todd
  18. Ok, it's 2006.... what would you say the low, average and high price range is for a clean, rust free Gen 1 GL BRAT? How high do you think they will appreciate in the next 5 years? Mechanically excellent. Excellent interior. All original. With seats, roll bar, cap, hitch. (Original paint though.) Thanks, Todd
  19. NIce nice! I willbe calling you Bryan! Now Paul.....you promised me those mirrors! Todd
  20. The stripes on gen 1s were applied stateside. They are not factory applied. There were various versions on colors and such, as well as some of the kits had more extensive coverage. It was a "Subaru of Amerca" package. Basically the earlier the production date, the more extensive striping. They went with less as the years, thru 1981 continued. Some did get thru without stripes, but very few. Todd
  21. Will the steering wheel form a 1996 Legacy fit a 1996 Impreza? The wheels look identical. Would there be a difference in the shaft or threads? Thanks much! Todd
