Where does this go?
SUBARU3 replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have seen it in many different places. It was mostly on the drivers side of the EMR brake handle plastic cover. I have seen it on the inside of the glove box door too. Paul??? Todd -
Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***
SUBARU3 replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I already have 2 of these in storage, so if someone needs mine, you are welcome to it. I really don't need it and would rather it go to someone that can use one of this last batch! I mean I'll keep it if no one else needs it, but it seems the demand is increasing. I Paypaled Paul $45, so if someone wants to Paypal me, or send me a check for $45, Paul can change the record so you have the gasket. Todd Paypal to Subaru3@aol.com -
'79 Heater Temp Valve--Does anyone rebuild?
SUBARU3 replied to 79er's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You can just remove the valve and hose directly to the core. Add a shutoff valve inline in the engine compartment. You need 2 sections of hose with preformed, 45 degree angles. That will hold you till you can put it back anatomically correct. Todd -

What ashame! He put a good running car out to pasture to rust. Someone should at least strip it down. Rare things that come to mind: Heater box/core Speedo cluster Wiper linkage Door handles exterior Dash parts Todd -
WOW Amada...such a sweet car!!!!Love the pics! Todd

I have a valve lifter sticking, but it only makes noise when the engine is completely warmed up. Never when cold. The noise is not bad, just noticeable. I thought lifters made nose when cold and then quieted as the engine warmed up? The noise is only at idle too, a little gas and all is quiet. (I'm sure the oil pressure picks up) Mileage is 55K Mobil #1 10W30 Thoughts? Thanks, Todd

Gen 1 4WD leaking shifter shaft
SUBARU3 replied to SUBARU3's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
So this can be replaced without splitting the case? Through the top access plate? I assume the trans would need to be removed though. Todd -
Aaaaaargh! A rare peice ruined...
SUBARU3 replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
That is a rare piece! It's cardboard. Most you find are sun rotted. All cars will interchange this, (DL, GF, Base, 2door, 4 door) You have to find one in a yard or fab up one. You can recover in felt. I'll keep my eye open for one. Todd -
Ok....what is the solution for the leaky 4WD/4 speed shifter shaft on Gen 1s?? I park facing downhill to limit the leak. My transmission is fine except for this leak. Does the case need to be split to fix this? Is there actually a seal there?? Opinions? It seems like a common issue. Todd

A But the SUBARU lettering needs to be in the forward section of the door. Move it forward to just behind the fender. Todd

SUBARU3 replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I downloaded all the pics! I'm so glad you got that car! I have the matching color, 2WD, automatic, 1978 wagon!! (Maybe one day they can be side by side!) Now when I come visit, can I take it a run around the block?? Stay in touch man! Todd www.vintagesubaru.com -
Oh..I'm sure we will be talking! LOL Todd

CONGRATS!!!! I think Paul means that 78 had some mixed options. Like where there was suppose to be a clock, it was missing and those that didn't get one ....had one, ect. Subarui is notorious for that. It's no biggie though. I have the pattern and can duplicate stripes if you need them. Todd
-
Paul...I think you are right. Original base cars were 4 speeds. However.....they can be and have been, converted to 5 speeds. Todd
-
Paul...your right! The spacer trim between the body and the buper was missing too! Good one! Oh...the truck did not had a vinyl cover for the floor. Now the 5 speed was also offered in the DL in 78. Todd
-
The "base" car, Non-DL, had vinyl floor covering, no radio, domelight without a switch, non-locking glovebox, no stripe, no wheel trim rings, no clock, no day/night rear view mirror, no trip meter, no rear defog, no tinted glass, no radio. Yes, a box on wheels! Now.....you could ADD any options to the base car, so that's why you see some with these base models with various items on them. Todd

THAT WAS SO COOL!!!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Todd

You can hook the fuel pump to a regular 12 volt line. The pump is pressure sensitive and only pumps when the pressure between the carb and the pump drops. (During operation and fuel burn)
-
The power to the fuel pump is supplied by the voltage reg. Frequently that portion fails and you get no power to the fuel pump. I'd try replacing the voltage reg first. Check your charge power at the battery with the car about 1500 rpms. You should have greater than 12 volts....like up to 14 volts. That would mean your alternator is OK. Todd
