  1. You mean the little blue air cleaner type thing? Yes, you have to get it from Subaru...if they still carry it.
  2. I figured in out on my own. The TCU is located under the drivers dash on 93-97 Imprezas. Still trying to figure out the interchangability of a 95 Legacy and 95 Impreza auto transmission. (Both IDENTICAL engines. 2.2)
  3. I'm sure there is a TCU. The Legacy and Impreza have different rear ends in the same year?
  4. Where is the Transmission control unit, for an automatic located on a 95 Impreza? Will an AWD 4EAT (2.2) from a 95 Legacy be a direct swap into a AWD 4EAT (2.2) 1995 Impreza? Thanks! Todd
  5. The early EA71 manifolds will fit the fat case, (later) EA71s without issue. You have different hookups on the manifolds themselves, but they work. 3 of my gen1's have fat case engines, with early manifolds and early flywheel covers. All bolted directly on. Todd
  6. I concur with Skip! Even if only one side is bad, the car will not move forward, as the bad side would be the path of least resistance. Todd
  7. I wonder if your clutch is fine and you have an internal transmission failure??? This sounds very supicious of that. Todd
  8. I looked in the tail pipe and no whistle! LOL Yes, it always stops/starts at 15 mph or so! It doesn't seem to do it cold either. But after it warms up.....it's there! Just kinda bugs me! Todd
  9. Ok...another issue! My 95 Impreza 2.2 AWD /4EAT, 82K has this whistle/squeal that starts from under the right side front of the car. It starts ONLY after warming up. It varies slightly with speed, but does not change tone, or texture with increase/decrease in mph. (Except that it STOPS completely when speed slows to 15 mph. It also STARTS at 15 mph!) It will make the same noise with the engine off and rolling faster than 15 mph. I can hear it louder when I crack open the door when moving. It's coming from under the center of the car I think. It's NOT anything in the engine compartment. It's NOT the speedo cable either, (unless its the gear Inside the trans.) What could whistle squeal that way in the drivetrain? It's not loud, but it is noticable and again ONLY after warmimg up. I placed the car on jack stands and could not replicate it. I can't crawl under the car going down the road, to see what it is....darn! Any thoughts? Thanks, Todd
  10. Ob99...thanks for the link. Very interesting reading. I printed it for reference. Todd
  11. Yea, I think the local concrete trucks empty out there. It's better than mud for sure!! I remember going there many time back in the late 90s. They had a stach of Gen 1s and earlier back in the far left corner of the yard. It's a fun yard...never know what you may find. I don't get out that much anymore either though....age maybe?? Who knows. But I always have fun when I go! Todd
  12. Found this 95 Impreza AWD 2.2 (wrecked) and ready for the crusher next week. It has 51K on it. Question...I was thinking about pulling the transmission, (4EAT) and keeping it as a spare for my Impreza. (Or for someone in the future) I can have it for $25 if I pull it! (the engine is out already) I'm kinda concerned because the trans selector won't go into park. But then a again, the shifter is kinda screwed up in the car. The axles both turn freely. Should I get it? Is it worth the trouble? Do you think the park thing might be serious? Thanks , Todd
  13. Very interesting.....I will do a change of the fluid again...maybe a flush?? This sounds like what may be happening! I'll report back. Thanks much! Todd
  14. The tach is fine. I just see the revs go down and then back up abit as it shifts from 2nd to 4th to third. (Selector in Drive) Could it be the torque coverter locks up for a second in third and then unlocks? It seems like just a few hundred rpm below what it should be in third. Todd
  15. Well, it seems to do it during normal acceleration with the selector in "3rd" too. Not quite at much as when it's in drive though. Now if I'm real gentle on acceleration, it shifts through to 2nd, 3rd, 4th fine. But I have to be real light on the gas. Todd
  16. Thanks all for responding. Hmm.... I have noticed that when the engine is cold, like on a COLD morning, (I live in TX), the shift from 2nd to 3rd seems better and it doesn't seem to hit 4th from 2nd. Now after I'm warmed up, it behaves like I stated in the 1st post. I guess thats the 4th inhibition from the temp. I'll try the gearshift in "3rd" and see. I think it will do the same thing. Todd
  17. Hey Guys and gals: What would cause a 4EAT trans. (95 Impreza AWD), to shift 2nd to 4th for a moment and then back to 3rd? The trans has 82 K, no problems at all otherwise and good clean fluid. Basically, under 'normal' acceleration it shifts fine from 1st -2nd, but then from 2nd to 3rd, it feels like it goes to 4th and then downshifts back to 3rd and then as speed climbs, it shifts correctly to 4th. The torque converter lockup happens correctly too. No downshifts difficulties either. Now if you do a HARD acceleration, it seems to shift 2nd to 3rd to 4th OK. Again no slippage, touque bind or any other issues with the tranmission. When cold ity shifts perfectly! Your thoughts? Thanks, Todd
  18. Is there any issues with shipping a gas tank? I can also send you a prepaid Fedex ticket if I had the weight and size. Todd
  19. The gas tank for the FE is the same as all the gen 1 cars, (except the wagons and BRAT) How much for the tank shipped to 76039? Thanks, Todd
  20. That is an early 77-79 EA71. That is the external water crossover and early style water pump. Honestly, there is no difference between an early JDM and the early domestic version. I have used many JDM motors and the only differences were the externals, manifold ect. Your engine also has the air suction spider and silencer. That I believe was only on US versions of the engine. I still lean towards it being the stock engine. Todd
