  1. Did you have the other 2 round plugs plugged into the cluster? It needs to be all connected to complete the circuit.
  2. How would one adjust the tension? Once you pull the pin on the adjuster, it's automatic. It presses against the tension pulley and pushes the belt down. Slapping belt make sense though.
  3. Funny, it doesn't do it from cold, only after it warms a bit. Happens only below 800rpm.
  4. Guys, I think this has hydro -lifters. I guess one might not be pumping up? Todd
  5. I have a co-worker that has a 2.2 Legacy 1995 AWD. Her "new boyfriend" said he heard a knock in her car. (It has 71K) I think he hates Subarus! At any rate, she asked me to listen to it. I compared it to 2 of my EJ engines and it sounds identical, except she gets a slight knock/tap at low idle. No noise above idle, under load, deceleration, or acceleration. If you rev the engine up and then let it settle back to idle it takes a few seconds for the tap to start again. The tap is very faint, but noticeable. Does this just sound like a lifter? She had the timing belt, seals and h20 pump done 4 months ago. Nothing done to the oilpump however. There are no performance issues with driving and the car has been maintained VERY well! (mobil 1 since new) I told her it's no biggie. Every engine sounds a bit different. Your Thoughts?? Thanks, Todd
  6. Hey Richard.... I found a few strut mounts in storage last night, I forgot I had them! (The problem with hoarding!) Thanks so much anyway. Todd
  7. You will need to run a wire to the + coil. Attach it to the dangling lead on the back of the cluster. That's it. The 78 did not have the wire in the harness.
  8. No, I just removed the flex plate to replace the plastic oil separator. The Flex plate goes on in any position, unlike a fly wheel that only bolts up one way. I can't see any marks on the case to align the flex plate. Any way, it's back in the car now. I can't see this is a biggie....at least I hope not!!!
  9. I don't think the 93 Impreza was "original" with a 2.2. It should be the 1.8. However the 1.8 and 2.2 are essentially the same. I would report the dealer with the $2000 quote to Subaru of America. They keep track of issues that drive people away from Subaru future purchases. I would tell the dealer that you are reporting them to their franchising unit too.
  10. The Haynes manual says to "line the hole in the drive plate with the mark on the case". What?????? The drive plate fits any way, not just one position. Do I have to align something before bolting? I don't seem to think so. Thanks, Todd
  11. Jon....do you have more pics of your Parts BRAT? Whats the drivers seat like? When I see pics, I aways see something! (Subi guy.....yes keep saving the parts! Somebody will need it in the future, most likely you. These cars are now in the last leg and parts will get harder and harder to find.) I'll take the dome light...let me know what to Paypal you. Oh...I could use the rubber mount on the struts too. Todd
  12. What condition is the drivers door in? If decent, without rust on the interior, I could use the shell. Could use the domelight and drivers seat bottom, (if in OK condition.) Some foam wear OK, I'm mainly concerned with broken springs. Todd
  13. Let us know...... Don't let it get crushed!!! If you part it, I'd be interested in some items. Todd
  14. Congrats!!! A 1975 DL red automatic 1400 was my 1st car! Yes, it did have head gasket issues, but it was an easy fix! If I can help you , let me know. I have lot's of mechanical parts, however no body stuff for stage one. Send us some more pictures!!!!!!! Todd
  15. How long will Acrylic Enamel stay good on the shelf? I have a quart of PPG Delstar. Tightly sealed. (Not mixed with any hardener ot thinner) I want to use for touch up.....it appears fine. It's about 5 years old. Been at a steady 75 degrees too. Do you think it's ok? Thanks!

  17. Lets see those other pics. Yes.....Skip is right, that the Northeast is a different bird!
  18. Heavens.....that little spot of rust on the right front fender????? These cars "typically" have rust on the fender tops. It does not point to rust elsewhere! Subaru replaced 1000s of fenders on these and stage 2 cars pre-maturely. There were no inner fender liners and the sealant they used between the fender and the wheel apron, was a foam type substance that absorbed and retained water. I have seen VERY bad rust in fender tops and not seen any significant rust elsewhere. I have removed tons of these fenders, both recently and when we had our dealership in the 70s/80s. I'm sure that at this age the car has some rust elsewhere, but the 2 pics in this thread look pretty clean. Are there other pictures?? I would think that this car is in REALLY good shape if the fender rust is it. If thats all in the fender, don't let that scare you off! Heck, we saw far worst than that by 1982 on a 79 car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. So many times a clogged radiator will cause overflow. At the age of this car, it still may be clogged, despite low mileage.
  20. I had a 1980 Colt RS. It was a terrific car! It had those power mirrors, twin stick, AC, full guage set, sunroof, alloys and more....it was bright yellow! That car ran 200K and was still running when I sold it to a neighbors kid! I would love to have it again! They are rare now, but occasionally one pops up on line. They are usually trashed by now though. Parts would be a bitc_ too. I'm curious why some of you thought the car was so bad? Todd
