  1. I just got a "NOS" new EA71 shortblock. I'm unsure of the cam followers/lifters. They look different. It appears that the "pushrod cup" in the top of the cam follower, is smaller than some of my other EA71s. The tip of the pushrod does not sit as deep. Is this just an update? Can I still use the standard pushrods? I have no experience with EA71 hydraulic valves. Looking at the engine shortblock, what would indicate these may be hydraulic lifters? I want to go with the standard valve train/pushrods. Todd Thanks!! Todd
  2. Quick question: Will all EA-71 cylinder heads, (regardless of year), interchange with all EA-71 blocks, (regardless of year)? Are the pushrods the same? Disregard the emission stuff, EGR , air suction ect, I can make that all work. But am I missing something? Can a 1984 EA71 take the cylinder head from a 79 1600? They physically look the same. Todd
  3. That silver molding with rubber insert was also added "stateside". It came in long lengths with end pieces/bullets. It just depended on the day of the week and who was installing it, as to what level it was at at how far it extended. Todd
  4. AC on all Gen 1's (Cars and BRATs), was added in the US. NONE came from the factory with it. Essentially, the most common GL's, from LATE 79 forward, had cloth seat, black body side molding, 4 headlights, tach, clock, lighted ashtray and cig lighter, AM FM radio. All 79 and up had the wood dash. 1978 was the only year with silver dash. The 78 and 79 GF was the "top of the line" ALL had tachs. Some early BRAT GL's came with vinyl seats 78 was a weird year. No formal 'GL". No telling what you may find though. I have seen very late 78s with wood dashes. Wheels can be changed out. They do not indicate the GL/DL status. Options were. 8 track, AC, sliding rear window, wood steering wheel/shifter knob, armrest, lower engine protector, leather wrap steering wheel, winch, various different bumpers/rollbars, caps, wheels, floor mats, locking fuel cap door, fog lights, bumper guards and various other options fro the cars and wagons, (racks). Todd
  5. Who got the custom BRAT bumper/hitch off BRAT at Little Johns salvage yard, Ft. Worth, TX???? Off the brown Gen 1, 79 BRAT I almost took it, but I decided against it. Someone worked hard to get it!!! I'd like to see who else has BRAT's in the area. Todd
  6. I don't have that emblem.....all mine are stage 2. Todd
  7. 78 and 79 would be good too! (Up to 81 Gen1 BRAT) Don't leave us behind! Todd
  8. GL's had: 4 headlights wheelwell trim tach 4 spoke steering wheel lighted ashtray lighted cigarette lighter AM/FM radio cloth seats clock 1978 really didn't have a "formal GL" (silver dash) 1979-1981 "formally" did have GLs Todd

  10. I have to get moved back up to PA.....I miss all the fun! Todd
  11. I'm from Williamsport. Family all still there. I have a cabin in Waterville, PA. and go to it fairly frequently. I hope to move back there in the near future. I need some acreage and an older farm home to restore. (Out of the flood) (All Gen1s will be sealed in a ziplock bag from NOV to APRIL! LOL Todd
  12. YES!! In the trunk, you will find plastic, black panels, that cover the rear of the trunk, tailights and wires. Basically, it's just trim. I need the passenger side, but would take both sides if they were there. Also, would take the instrument cluster. Pretty easy to get out too. Front mud flaps too. Have any pics? What condition are the doors in? They fit Gen 1 BRATS and have the steel reinforcements in them that the original BRAT doors didn't have. Someone may be in iterested in those. Todd
  13. Can this be done with Gen 1s? Can you elaborate on the process? Todd
  14. I might try the scale thing....but I might not be able to see the numbers. (I have it crated already). Todd
  15. Anybody know the weight of a "fatcase", EA71 longblock? No manifold, Only the complete block, the heads and the valve covers and oil pan. Thanks so much. I have no way to weigh them and I need to ship! Todd
  16. What is with these holes in the blocks! My 78 had a thrown rod. I have seen a few others with that golf ball size hole right behind the distrib. Guess that's the weakness with high mileage, age and no oil! Todd

  18. Hmm...seems like yellow was the color for many of the automatics! (Including mine) I know they were not the best sellers back when they all were new. So I would imagine there are only a handful still on the road. Todd
  19. I just watched "Wisdom". (I had to order the movie!) The Gen 2, 78, 4WD wagon gets TONS of exposure! It's like a star in the show. Heck....they even have sex in the back in one scene!! You Gen 1 guys have to see this movie! Oh....the story line kinda ties in with TODAY's troubles in America! Todd
  20. Just doing a simple survey. How many of you have, or know of in still in existence, (not in a salvage yard), any Gen 1/ stage 1 or 2, AUTOMATIC transmission car? (Any body style). Obviously they would all be 2WD, as the 4WDs were all 4 speeds. Just trying to get a feel of the rarity of these cars. Thanks all! Todd
  21. All the factory tach needs is one lead to the coil. The cluster is grounded with other wiring on the 2 round plugs. I have never seen a box next to the coil, unless you are talking about the electronic ignition box? Todd
  22. 76 wagon! 76 Coupe! Stage 1s are rare! Can you get some pics. Interior/Exterior? Does the guy have titles? Will he sell? I have someone who would be interested in the coupe and I might be in the wagon. Thanks, Todd
