300zx turbo-> hardbody pickup
Hondasucks replied to WoodsWagon's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Get the whole car and use the entire wiring harness and engine, don't just swap the turbo bits over to the non-turbo engine, from what I remember off the 510 board back in the day, the VG30 turbo and VG30 N/A are like the EJ22T and EJ22 N/A, the blocks/internals are beefier on the turbo. And I think it must have been after a certain year they switched to the aluminum block then, I can't remember... -
I've seen cop cars with a relay on the horn switch, so the horn works normally but when you turn the key to start, it switches the horn switch over so it's inline with the starter circuit, so to start the car you have to turn the key and hit the horn... Could be done with just about any other switch too. I used to take my distributor cap off my old 87 hatchback (Not that anyone would steal it anyway) whenever I had to leave it for an extended period of time. Sucked when I'd forget about it and get into my car and be like WTF is it not starting grrrr... and then I'd be like oh yeah duh... And unplugging the cam sensor won't make it not start, the computer will guess where it's at, since with a 4 cylinder there are only two possibilities, three with a six cylinder (although most six cylinder engines won't run with the CMP disconnected)

You should always have battery voltage on the + side of the coil with the ignition on, however the negative side is grounded and ungrounded to produce the spark, so what voltage is there will depend on whether the circuit from there to ground is open or not. Put a test light between the - terminal and the engine block or battery ground and crank the engine, the light should pulse or flicker.

300zx turbo-> hardbody pickup

That and I'm pretty sure that the 300ZX motor is a VQ30, which is just like the VG30 except it has an aluminum block instead of cast iron. -
Subaru Leone vs. Nissan Skyline you tube

I have that video on my Myspace page :-P -
yeah I'm basically collecting $ for parts but not parts themselves :-P The car's basically mine, I just have to wait until the guy who's garage it's in gets back from California, which won't be until the first week of October But once I get the "bad" transmission figured out, my 90 Legacy wagon will be up for sale, although w/out the WRX wheels since they have brand new rubber on 'em :-)

And then when you get them out, replace them with stainless steel, I did that on my Turbowagon for the two long ones, and when I took the intake back off like 2 years later, they spun right out.I've had decent luck turning the bolt out like, 1/2 turn and spraying some good penetrating oil down under the head of the bolt (JB 80, P'Blaster) and then rocking the bolt 1/4 back, 1/2 turn forward until it starts to spin freely.

Will definately benefit from removing the snorkus from the inner fender well...Full cold air intake for a 2.2 will fit but it will take away some of the bottom end grunt, in exchange for top end.... I'd just cut the snorkus out and maybe open up the airbox a little bit, get rid of the stupid hose that's inside of it and figure out a better way to draw the air in out of the inner fender well than that stupid hose that sticks out halfway into the airbox.

My Demolition Derby build...by. harpua
Hondasucks replied to harpua's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Could have been worse man, could have happened at the derby... And I know cars are strong in the front, but ramming with the rear protects the radiator, although I have heard of people putting the radiator in the cabin, or above the motor.. Even heard of one guy who put valves and crap on the radiator so if the radiator got popped he closed the valves and had the heater core in a bucket of ice, didn't work for long but long enough for him to win :-P -
How did I manage this?
Hondasucks replied to kingbobdole's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
no, it's good for 30 HP at the center differential in neutral, but only if he has a third generation thermo confibrulator. -
At least you are intelligent enough to USE an ashtray, pisses me off when I'm driving and I see some inconsiderate %*% toss their cig out the window.... I had some lady toss hers out of her SUV once and landed on the hood of my car, I asked her to use her ash tray and not litter and she was like no it'll stink up my car... I was like well then why don't you just not smoke in it? and drove off :-P

Seattle 88 Wagon STOLEN
Hondasucks replied to seattlelegacy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think that's bullhonkey that Washington makes you pay to get it out of impound, regardless of how it got there.. Happened to a friend of mine, some tweeker stole her car and got it impounded in washington, and they told her $500 to get it out of impound, and by the time she came up with the money they were like well it's $700 now, so they sold it at auction for $500 and took her to collections for like $1200, even though some trash stole her car... Buncha crap if you ask me... Find out who did it and like, sue 'em lol.. Stupid meth heads.. -
That's just what one of the techs told me... He's seen cars with the affected motors with 200k on them with no problems, and he's seen them come in with 60k that smoke real bad and have like 2" of sludge in the oil pan.... Could just as easily be dependent on what type of oil they were running, cuz let's face it not everyone goes to the dealership and pays $30+ for an oil change :-P (Although it's always great when we get a car that just came from Jiffy Lube that has a brand new oil filter on it, and the yellow seal paint junk on the drain plug, but no oil in the engine... Or when they first started putting the external spin-on filters on the automatic trannies, the dummies at Jiffy Lube liked to drain 4-5 quarts out of the transmission, and put 4 quarts into the engine... by the time they got to us they had a fried transmission and every seal in the engine blown... (Although it was sorta convenient since Jiffy Lube is right around the corner from the dealership I work at...)

it's #2 and #3 from this page, along with another can that looks like #2 but it's added to an injector cleaning machine. It comes all shrink-wrapped together, but not in a neat little box like they have on the web page. There is a canister of stuff that comes with the emission system service kit that is a combustion chamber cleaner.. Says you are supposed to use the tool #blah blah blah with it, but the "Tool" is just a container with a hose coming off of it that plugs into a vacuum line on the intake, Has a small orofice on top of the canister so it doesn't squirt in very much of the cleaner, but it looks like it'd be relatively easy to make... (There is also some stuff in a spray can)

Get a transmission tune-up kit from Justice Brothers, it'll be two bottles of stuff, one bottle you pour in and let the car idle for 5 minutes, and run it through the gears a couple of times to clear any gunk out of the valve body, then you drain and install a new tranny filter, and add the other bottle of stuff with the new fluid. It works really well... Go here http://www.justicebrothers.com/pages/products/products_pas.htm and scroll down to the one that says "Automatic Transmission Service" that's what you need...

...Is the shizznit! I got some at work today for free (They give it to us so we can tell people how good it is, I guess.. We also have their air intake cleaner, motor flush, power steering flush, and some other goodies) So I did it to my 90 Legacy.. MAN does it idle smooth as glass now! It's a three part kit that we sell for $37.95 (Don't know what the labor is though), one can you put in a cleaning machine, which is little more than a steel canister with an air line fitting and regulator at one end, and a big PSI guage with a hose at the other, that is connected to a Tee that connects to the supply and return lines for the fuel injection. (So basically the engine is running off of the cleaner in the canister, not the fuel in the tank). A second can of less-powerful cleaner is poured into the gas tank at the same time, (You don't want to put the stuff that's supposed to go in the machine in the tank, as it will break all the gunk free from the tank and clog the pickup screen), and then a third bottle is added to the tank at the next fillup. I haven't gotten to that point, but the immediate difference after I hooked it all back up was amazing, the idle is a lot smoother, and the throttle response is a lot quicker now as well. After looking at the "machine" (Which is an OTC tool so it's probably $300+) I think one could make one without too much trouble..

ARGH! I hate my car sometimes
Hondasucks replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The only thing that would affect the LSD is if the LSD additive wasn't put in, but that would only affect it if they drained the fluid and put in straight gear oil with no LSD additive... Check the brakes, mine used to squeak when driving but would go away when I hit the brakes before they got super worn down and squeaked all the time :-P
