  1. There should be a part # sticker on the bellhousing of the trans, it's usually by the starter... Might be able to look it up with that? I dunno, all my cars are stick so I can't help ya, but if I see one in the JY I'll write down the VIN.
  2. Hey Russ you need to get some of those wheel covers that they sell at Auto Zone, you know the ones that you can put on your 15s to make it look like you have 17s Would go nicely with the fart can :-P
  3. The Vanagon diesel was a standard inline four, mounted more or less on it's side, it wasn't a boxer diesel :-( (Good news is you can stuff 2.0T Audi motor in there and do wheelstands )
  4. Contact Titan Rebuilders in Albany, Oregon phone number is (541) 926-6709 They specialize in water pumps, starters, and alternators. Chances are if they don't have a pump for it, you could send them yours and they'll rebuild it. They do good work there, I've had Titan rebuilt starters, alternators, and water pumps on several of my rigs, never had a problem with any of them!
  5. Wow Ed I thought you were younger than that, well happy birthday! (And happy birthday to Jason and the THREE OTHER PEOPLE I know who were born on April 23rd lol...)
  6. I've had the best luck pulling the plastic bolt thing back so just the end of the cable is there, and turn the end of the cable until it lines up with the slot in the gear in the transmission, and stuff it in as far as it will go, and then thread the plastic bolt thing in. It takes some practice but you'll get it :-)
  7. I've got a 90 LS 5 speed wagon, and I used to have a 91 LS 5 speed sedan, I've done my fair share of wrench turning on both of them, so lemmie know if you need help with anything
  8. Due to the impact, you might need to replace the strut and control arms on that side. If the camber can't be adjusted out, something is bent, same with the toe.
  9. I took apart one of those EZ Pass things that was from the bay area, little more than a microcontroller with a burned-in serial number, and a BIG arse lithium battery. I dunno if the new ones are RFID or what, this one was on the outside of the car though, mounted to the rear bumper.
  10. I've got one of the last US EA71 engines, came out of my 87 STD hatchback. HAd MANY MANY arguements with parts store clerks, junkyard counter people, even a guy at the DEALERSHIP that it either "Wasn't an 87" or that I was mistaken that it was an EA71 due to the offset starter, but right on the front of the block it says "EA71".. Won't be parting with that engine anytime soon, 260k on the ticker and still gets 175lbs of compression in all 4 cylinders.
  11. I guess I neglected to state that in between there I've been working on other projects :-P And how long did it take you to get the RX running? And how short did it take you to blow it up :-P
  12. I guess I could fab up some attachment points for my tow strap and use my truck as a recovery rig :-) It's heavy enough and has plenty of torque to yank out buried Subarus :-) (Also does a good job of anchoring a Jeep in place while it winches out a buried Chevy!)
  13. Well, it's finally fixed After replacing the plug wires and fuel filter, and cap and rotor, it still ran like crap.. That's when Dad told me that before it started running crappy, he was trying to put it in the garage, and the battery was dead, so he put the big 250A engine cranker/charger thing on it, and got it running but he said that the alternator charge wire started smoking so he jumped out and shut the charger off, and noticed it was running like crap... So needless to say, don't use big unregulated battery charger/starters on a car with a dead battery, cuz it lets the magic smoke out of the ECU :dead:Luckily I had another one, plugged it in and in ran like a champ Plugged the old one back in, to make sure it was the ECU and not the coil, since we replaced the coil @ the same time, and it ran like crap again... So now it just needs paint and a windsheild and it'll be ready to sell
  14. I had a chance to buy a real 69 ff-1, and the fawrker crushed it the day before I came out there with the cash, and he KNEW I wanted it and KNEW I was coming with money
  15. I might be going down there to help him with some stuff this week...
  16. lol dude, did you read the post date? was like 4 years ago! :-P I hope she got her problem fixed :-P
  17. I'm bringin one of my Subies for the show, and probably my 4x4 Dodge to wheel, and to haul a crapload of parts up to the show to sell
  18. Too late, I already made one, going to fly down to Honduras tomorrow and steal your car! just kiddin :-P
  19. Same as the motivation for a lot of other projects: To do something different, or something that hasn't been done before.
  20. I've got a set of rails I made back in the day to put EA82 seats in an EA81, they're just EA81 rails that have been drilled to fit the EA82 seats, I'll get some pictures of them tomorrow and post 'em :-) I made these just out of my own intiution before I was really active on the board. I also put the carpet and center console out of the wagon I got the seats out of in my 87 STD hatch. Sadly, I don't have any pictures :-(
  21. My buddy has a 90 Legacy LS sedan that had a cooland leak, I thought it was the lower radiator hose so I bought him a new OEM hose, and tonight he went to put it on, and discovered that it wasn't the lower hose, but a smaller hose that connects to a metal line that runs up to the top of the block, over the top of the block, and then to a rubber hose that connects to the heater core. I can find the heater hoses in the catalog at 1stsubaruparts.com but I can't find the hose he needs, which is the small one that is under the motor next to the lower water inlet... HE was thinking of just replacing it with a piece of hose from the parts store, but it looks like it's a molded hose... Any suggestions?
  22. Also you won't get a 90 LSi, they didn't start making the LSi until 91 :-)
  23. I've had great results from John and Phils's Subaru-Toyota-Scion in Corvallis, (These guys don't give you blank stares when you say you need a timing belt for an EA82), and I've had the best luck at dealers that have Subarus and one or two other makes of cars. The dealer here in Albany, Mark Thomas Motors, does Chrysler/Jeep stuff, Hyundai, Subaru, and they just bought the local Buick/Pontiac dealer. I've not had the best luck getting much for my Subaru there, since they have one parts department for DC/Subaru/Hyundai and another downtown for Buick and Pontiac, and they don't have a large stock of stuff (Basic stuff for EJ engines like oil filters they have, but everything else darn near you have to order, and they want 20% more for stuff than J&P even if they do have it in stock...) They're very helpful with Dodge stuff but you go in there for a timing belt for an 87 GL they're like what make is that?
