More Datsun Similarities
Hondasucks replied to Durania's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My first car was a 73 Datsun pickup, it had like a 35 Amp alternator on it, and when that burnt out I put a 60 Amp off a Subaru on it :-P Was a direct bolt-in too lol. -
Bad booster won't make the brakes not work it'll just make the pedal effort required to stop the car increase. My guess is you either have a bad leak somewhere or a bad master cylinder, and I'd lean towards a bad cylinder since unless you have a leak in both sides of the brake circuit, you'd just lose one front and the opposite rear brake, not everything. Also might try bleeding it with a vacuum bleeder, sometimes if there is a lot of air in the system it can't be bled manually. Does the master cylinder have bleeder screws on it? If so, bleed it first or you will get nowhere! You can also try gravity bleeding the system, that is open the bleed screws and wait for fluid to drip out.

When I was there they opened the hood, and on the firewall it had a engraved plate that said "NOT FOR MOTORSPORT USE", so I'm guessing it's just a show car they built to show off, not use (We all know how thrashed rally cars get lol)

fruggin dumbarses wrecked a perfectly good legacy :-(

I wonder how different the 85-86 and 87+ digidash wiring is? The one difference I see is that on the 87-up dashes, the outside temperature reading is on the trip computer instead of the main dash. Reason I mention is that the 87+ digitals are green instead of amber and are a LOT easier to read (and most of the ones I've run into have all worked properly... I've got an 86 GL-10 sedan and the temp and fuel gauges are the only things that are flakey on it...)

Not much of a full story, my Hebrew is a bit rusty. Cool pics though. -
MAF = what GD said, it's the thing with the wires going to it that's on top of your air filter box. Take the top off the air cleaner box, unplug the connector, undo the intake hose, and spray the inside out with brake cleaner.

My buddy bought a 90 Legacy LS for his wife from the junkyard he works at for like $400, unknown to him it had a blown head gasket. He scored a motor for $100 which turned out to be out of a 92, we discovered after getting it in and bolted up that the wiring connectors are different, so we swapped out the intake with the one off the old motor. When I went to bolt the torque converter bolts in, I could not rotate the motor. Loosen up the bellhousing bolts and the motor turns just fine. I fiddled with the torque converter for about 20 minutes, and I'm fairly convinced it is in all the way (no amount of rotating, jiggling, or pushing made the T/C go in any farther), any ideas? He's movin in like 2 weeks so I might end up having to take the car to my parents house and work on it there, which sucks lol so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I read somewhere (Can't remember where) that the axle shafts for a three-speed automatic equipped TURBO EA82 are the larger, beefier axles BUT they have a 23 spline inner joint, and from what I read those inner cups will fit on the XT6 axle shaft but I've never tried it. (I've also learned that just because the box says it's a turbo M/T shaft, doesn't mean it's a 25 spline shaft...)

Hmm.... Elk hunting .... Subaru show... dammit tough decisions!

I've heard that too, but I've heard of adding it to diesel fuel to keep it from gelling in the winter (if #1 diesel or stove oil is unavailable)

long term engine storage tips?
Hondasucks replied to hooziewhatsit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good poit, GD, also it (like diesel fuel) will absorb water, which isn't a good thing to have inside a motor. Also, diesel will eat some types of rubber as well. -

Go get a can of Marine Fogging Oil, spray a bunch down the intake, as well as a shot or two in each spark plug hole, if you can, take the carb off and drain all the fuel from it, so the fuel doesn't break down in the carb and clog it up. Taping off the intake and exhaust ports is a good idea, storing it in a shed shouldn't be that big of a deal... -
Leone is Italian for lion, pronounced lay-oh-nay (although I ususally just say it lee-own since it's easier lol)
