360 shortblock motor
Hondasucks replied to SkankinPickle's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
well, if I get a crate Hemi for my Polara, I'll have a 383 with big-valve 440 heads and a 4 barrel would go nice in something small and light... Dunno about a Subaru, but I know if I were to put a burly V8 in a Soob it'd be a MOPAR... Everybody puts small block chevies in crap.... -
How Difficult is a EA82T to swap into and EA81 car?
Hondasucks replied to Bobby_boucher's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
you need the fuel pump, and all the fuel lines, since the EFI lines are bigger. To make it REALLY easy, you could go find an EA81T car, and swap the whole harness out of it, and use it with the EA82 engine, but you'd need an 85-86 EA82.. And don't you know, turbos are the debbil! --sorry couldn't resist, with the Bobby Boucher and all -
idiot lights come on half way?
Hondasucks replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah cuz depending on which diode trio is bad, if one of the positive diodes is bad, the battery will ground iteslf though the field windings, draining the battery. -
John Bloom has a light blue lifted hatch, but he prolly woulda been @ the show....

how to weld up a lincoln locker
Hondasucks replied to Rooinater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
TIG it if you can, NO slag or spatter... I've heard to weld the gears together, and then weld the gears to the case for added strength... I've never heard of preheading the gears though.. Problem with MIG welds is they are very hard welds, and so can be brittle in comparison to a relatively flexible TIG or gas weld.. And it's only a Lincoln Locker if you use a LINCOLN welder -

MAACO paint work question
Hondasucks replied to SUBARU3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it;s not their paint, or for the most part their painters, it's the fact they don't take their time masking things off properly so you get overspray on the tail lights, under carriage, etc.. -

Not if it's a Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable I jumped a ditch in mine in high school, set both air bags off (and it landed FLAT, didnt' hit anything) but yeah air bags are supposed to go off under similar conditions of hitting a solid object at 14MPH or greater, usually requires simultaneous closing of one or two sensors, usually in the front by the bumper somewhere, and an "arming sensor" which is usually under the dash, on the firewall, or in the air bag computer itself. Not sur about older vehicles, but newer stuff all the air bag wiring is in a yellow sheath. If you are concerned about it goign off when off roading, pull the air bag fuse with the car OFF, and before you plug it back in, disconnnect the battery for 30 minutes, and put it back in with the battery disconnected, to avoid accidental inflation. A more permanent solution would be to disconnect the air bag module, and the air bag inflators in the steering wheel and dashboard, but I DO NOT recommend this, as if you get in a wreck, the air bags could save your life, dont' risk it.

Need some easy EA82T questions answered
Hondasucks replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the stock EBC is used, from what I gathered by looking at AllData, is used to keep the boost correct at high altitudes. For some reason my wagon doesn't have it.. your EBC should connect between the wastegate actuator and the compressor side of the turbo, basically T into the line that's there. (I dont' know about yours; I have one vacuum line that runs from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator) I'm not sure how your EBC works but the ones I've seen basically just modulate the pressure going to the wastegate, so it doesnt' get enough pressure to open the wastegate until whatever you have the EBC set at. -
So last weekend I went to visit my uncle in Rifle, CO (For those who don't know where that is, it's right offa I-70 about 90 miles from the CO/UT border) took the back way down from Laramie, cool drive, 25 miles or so on a 2 lane dirt road... anyhoo we discovered while we were down there that he was going to Denver about 9 the following morning, and that my cousin that I hadn't seen since 88 or so was going to be there, so we decided to go back I-70 to Denver, see my cousin, adn then go back up I-25 to Laramie. Well it was kinda hot out and so we had the A/C going. All was fine until we were coming up Vail Pass (10,500ft) and I noticed that the car was making a rattling noise, like it was pinging, at first I thought it must be the altitude, but then I remembered that it's less likely to knock as altitude rises, that's when I happened to look over at the temp gauge.. Pegged into the red. We turned the heater on (Jess was driving) and managed to drop the temp back down, but when we noticed it we had just crested the hill and started heading back down the other side. When we started climbing the next hill, that leads to the Eisenhower tunnel, it got a little hot but not into the red, just about 3/4 of the way up the gauge, where it normally sits at half or a little below half. Crested the hill as we went through the tunnel, and basically coasted the rest of the way down into Denver. Right when we leveled out it started getting hot, so I turned the heater back on. No hot air. I figured we must have dumped a bunch of steam out and were just low on water, so I grabbed my jug of antifreeze out of the back and poured some in and then we caught up to my uncle and it pegged again. I pulled off to the side of I-70 and let it cool off a bit (and I hardwired the fan so it would run all the time) and then I followed my uncle off the freeway to a gas station, since he noticed that as I was adding water it was dumping out the bottom somewhere. So we got to the gas station, got gouged $8.99 for a bottle of antifreeze, and I poured in some water to try and find the leak. Appeared to be coming from the water pump but I couldn't see it coming from any of the hoses or from the weep hole, so I guessed that it must be the gasket. My uncle ran down the street to AutoZone and grabbed me 3 bottles of Bar's Leaks, dumped two in and the leak slowed ot a drip, drove to where we were going, and it did just fine. Right before we left, I dumped the other bottle of bar's leaks in and topped off the radiator, and headed north towards Cheyenne. Stopped in Cheyenne and topped off the water and the fuel tank, and headed to Laramie. Right when I got to my driveway it started dumpign coolant everywhere again. Flash forward to today: Went to Advance Auto and got a NEW water pump with a lifetime warranty, upper and lower radiator hose, and both belts. They didnt' have the lower hose in stock, so I went over to Checker and they had the hose, plus I picked up some radiator flush and a flush-n-fill kit. Managed to get the new water pump on and both hoses. tomorrow I'm going to finish putting it back together (Could have gotten it tonight but the mosquitos were eating me alive and it was getting dark) adn flush the cooling system, and hook the heater core back up the right way (It's hooked up backwards right now) and I'll prolly do an oil change too. I don't think I cracked the head cuz I'm not getting water out the tailpipe or anything... Anyone know of a good electric fan I could put in as a second fan? Would have to be somewhat of a thin fan.... I'd hook the second one up so it ran all the time, not just when hot like the other fan. YEs I know this car should have an engine driven fan, someone had gotten lazy and cut the shroud to get the fan out, so I just took it off altogether adn ended up putting it on an XT I had that had coolign problems. Should I use an electrif fan, or should I find a good engine driven fan???

EA81 wagon in a vonage commercial
Hondasucks replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Almost looks like a Cherokee but it's too small, could be an early 80s Escort hatchback... I dunno the video is too small ) -
For the pillar gauge pod, you can use one for an 93-01 Impreza, or for a WRX. The WRX pod is a full-pillar pod, meaning that it covers the entire pillar. You have to do some cutting at the bottom to make it fit right, ask Caboobaroo he has one in his car. I put a 93-01 Impreza pod in my turbowagon, it's only a 2 gauge pod and it doesn't cover the entire pillar, but it does fit.

I had my car cleaned out back in 01, stupid cop that came out touched everything "Oh you can't get prints off this", Dad saw a big arse Toyota in front of my house one day when he came home early from work, after the break in happened, and when he came up the hill they bolted, got the plate number, called the cops, reported that to them, plus the fact that whenever I saw him in traffic he would bolt, but they did nothing. As for the circus music, when I was in community college back home in Oregon we had a rash of break ins in the parking lot, well one day my friend Jared went out ot his truck to get something, and on his way back he sees two Mexicans poking around this truck, and he asked them if they needed help and the one said "Oh I locked my keys in my truck" and he said "That's real funny cuz THAT IS MY FRIENDS TRUCK and they both jumped into a beat-up Prelude and bolted. If I had been out there him and I woulda hopped in my car and chased 'em down but he just had his Bronco with a 302 that ran like crap so he couldnt' chase them. But the break ins stopped so I guess that close call scared 'em off. And you say you know who did it, well if the cops won't do anything, go either collect some evidence, or beat the %*%* out of them and take your crap back!

there was one of those in albany, totally cherry, some idiot got ahodl of it and it sat on the street and got towed and impounded, adn nobody came to get the poor car out so they crushed it I managed to save the mag wheels (JAson has 'em now) and the emblems and the rear chrome vent trim, and I think I have the turn signals too..
