  1. My wagon -- ODO mileage is like 185k, actual mileage is like 180k but I do not know the mileage on the engine.. Jessica's car has 319,000 on everything but the heads, which are the old heads off of my turbowagon.
  2. I would love an STi.. But even more fun would be getting say a 95 Impreza, or even a 98 2.5RS, and stuffing a JDM WRX STi motor in thre, and only haveing to pay the insurance for 95 impreza, and being able to spank an STi, and be able to put some money away for later things such as when it comes time to put my kids in college.
  3. Happened to me in my Dodge Ram.. Finally got $$$ out of the insurance after some running around (I ended up finding who did it) There is a big story about it in the Off Topic section, the title is something liek "So much for the Dodge being straight (rant)"
  4. yeah Shawn, we're like 8 blocks from teh freeway, stop in and say hi :-)
  5. DUDE W/B! I'm in Laramie, WY now, although not much closer than I was when IW as in Oregon lol I'll be rollin through around Christmas time to go back home fer Christmas..
  6. so who else wants to move to Wyoming???
  7. YEah, he may be putting a Chevy motor in a Subaru, and yeah, he may be putting it on a full frame and making it heavy, but the point is, it's different, and he wants to do it, and it's his car, so he can do to it what he wants to. If he decides later on that it's too much work, or too much of a pain in the rump roast, fine, he'll figure it out. But I dunno about you guys, btu when someone tells me something can't be done, it just drives me harder to figure out a way to do it. How many times have we heard "Oh you can't four wheel a Subaru" or "Oh you can't lift a Subaru!" And does that stop Eric and Ken and John from lifting the snot out of Soobs and going wheeling? Hell no!
  8. For Training they probably don't bother with it, although theoretically if you don't touch any of the settings or anything it would go back together the same. Where at in Corvallis are ya? I used to live in Albany before I came here about a week ago to go to school, my Girlfriend (Honda's 86 Brat) lives in Corvallis....
  9. I didnt' unplug the knock sensor, I unplugged the knock control unit. It's not the knock sensor because it did it with the old engine, which had a different knock sensor. so basically I am perty sure it is something on the CAR and not on the ENGINE, and I don't think it is the distrubutor because it did it with the other distributor as well. I suspected the knock control unit but unplugging it should have made it go away (and by knock control unit I mean the box in the fender well, not the knock sensor.)
  10. well we towed the car to my house. I blew out the return lines under the hood, and successfully pressurized the fuel tank. I tried blowing through the supply line under the hood, with no results. I went under the car and hooked the air gun directly up to the rubber hose coming from the hard line out of the fuel tank. I blew into it, and you could hear the air bubbling in the fuel tank, but when you take the air gun out of the hose, no fuel comes out. I tried this several times to no avail. Does anyone have a fuel tank that I could swap in there? John? Anyone who's parting something out????
  11. I'm not sure, but I think EA81 head studs are teh same thread pitch. Also if you've ever threaded a head bolt into the block with the head off, they thread in quite a bit (several inches) into the aluminum block. I'm not sure why the EA82 uses bolts rather than studs, other than for clearance issues. I'm not sure if you could use studs on an EA82 but if you could it would be perty bad arse. I know ARP offers head stud kits, maybe you can order some that are metric????
  12. Okay.. I put the old motor back in and it still does it (BUT it doesn't piddle oil everywhere, and no more cracked heads!) I swapped out the ignition coil, and I unplugged the knock control unit, neither of which helped. My next step is to swap out the ECM as I have another one. I have also swapped out the fuel pump and changed the fuel filter, neither of which seemed to do any good either. I discovered that with it sitting in my driveway, if I floor it, it will hit about 4500RPM and will spit and sputter almost like a rev limiter but not quite as smooth, any ideas? Could it be the ECM? I have another one I just have to FIND the darn thing.... It IS drivable, it just surges real bad when you stand on it, but if you granny it it seems to do okay (but it is soo hard to granny a turbo car...)
  13. I have a set of gen1 EA82T heads that are shot, if anyone wants them to cut apart they are yours! I can give them to JAson in Portland on Sunday if anyone wants to pick them up at his house, as I leave for Wyoming on Monday or Tuedsay..
  14. Yeah but that's a Datsun, those come with rust from the factory :-P Mine had so many holes in the floor, every time it rained you got your legs wet.
  15. um.. And I quote from his signature: "1988 RX wagon: spider manifold, delta cams, carb block, WRX intercooler, GFB boostcontroler & bov, XT6 awd tranny- 5 lug conversion-swaybars, 17" Rota Sub-zero's, HP coilovers................."
  16. Next time it's cutting out like that, turn down the radio and listen to the engine. Do you hear a light metallic rattling type noise that goes away when you back off the throttle? If so, the engine is pinging, and with that amount of mileage it's probably due to carbon buildup. A bottle of seafoam into the PCV works wonders. Oil Can Henry's offers a "fuel system clean" for like $40 that seems to work fairly well. The "cutting out" you feel is the knock control system retarding the timing. Another possibility is that the timing is off, it should be 20 degrees BTDC at 800 RPM (manual) or 700 RPM (automatic) with the green test connectors plugged in. (Some models have them under the dash, some have them under the hood, next to the driver's side strut tower, where the wiring harness comes out of the firewall). Good luck!
  17. I think it should be safe, since the side cladding is not bare plastic, it's painted, and I am pretty sure the caution is against using it on bare plastics, like door handles, trim, etc...
  18. Fuel pump runs, fuel pump pumps fuel. No fuel is GETTING to the pump cuz something is clogging the supply line from the tank, but I'm not sure what nor how to get rid of it!
  19. Okay.. I just put a new fuel pump in my dad's buddy's 85 wagon that I had sold him. HE went to drive it to work today, and he said he got it up to about 30 and it started bucking real bad. (He said all the kids at the high school were pointing and laughing like he didnt' know how to drive a stick) So I go over there, and discover that the fuel filter is clogged. So I take it off, go get a new one (Much easier to blow through) and put the new filter on. Nothing. Take the line off teh carb, cycle the pump. Nothing. Go back and look at the filter, which is BEFORE the pump so it should be full of fuel. Empty. Take the line off the filter. Nothing. Take the line off the tank. Nothing. Put the line back on , blow into the line that goes to the filter, hear bubbles in the tank. No fuel. Tried this twice more and got fuel, put it back together, filter now has fuel in it, and it did ran, then died. Dad got underneath (How he did this in his Dockers withotu getting dirt on ANYTHING I don't know!) and pulled the line off. Nothing. We took the sending unit out from up top and peered into the tank. Can't see any of the supply lines or anything, but the tank doesn't appear to have any rust in it. There were some SMALL particles of something but I didnt' see anything that looked liek rust nor big enough to clog a line. What should I do????????? I guess I could try blowing the lines out with my air compressor, but my air compressor is HUGE and I really don't want to haul it across town.. Grr why does this crap have to happen less than a week before I leave!?!?!?!?!
  20. I'm tempted to build a monster out of my 82 4x4 sedan when I get back from Wyotech, or take it back as a project in Chassis Fab
  21. I leave for freezing cold Wyoming on Monday the 20th, so on Sunday the 19th we're having a potluck at my house in Albany. Directions are below: from the North: (Start at #7) http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?ed=nm5YS.V.winx97.3bwaMhu65wRJY6366pHSuYCyLoTRX5pWL&csz=salem%2Cor&country=us&tcsz=97321&tcountry=us From the South: (start at #7) http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?ed=nm5YS.V.winx97.3bwaMhu65wRJY6366pHSuYCyLoTRX5pWL&csz=eugene%2C+or&country=us&tcsz=97321&tcountry=us Everyone is welcome, it starts at 2. It's a potluck so bring something to share. Since I don't want everyone showing up with a bottle of pop and chips, Post here if you are coming and what you are going to bring, so others know what everyone else is bringing :-) And if you were born on a day that ends in Y, bring a six pack of your favorite brew lol I will also be havin a sale out of the shed, if anyone needs parts I'll make ya a deal :-)
  22. So basically this was a fake someone took their time on? The sticker on the back looked awfully factory, cuz the "Justy RS 4WD" lined up with TURBO perfectly, I wish I had a better camera to get a picture of it....
  23. Is your back window tinted? If it is, the auto dim won't work. As fro the sensor, I'm not sure, look on the mirror there should be a small hole in the plastic somewhere on the front side (the part you look at) that is the sensor, there might be some junk in there.
  24. So my girlfriend and I were cruising down Highway 34 in Corvallis, heading to my house. As we were coming up on the bridge out of corvallis, ahead I saw a Justy with white bumpers. I commented "Hey It's a Justy RS".. As we got closer to it, I noticed on the back, it said Justy RS 4WD and then underneath it said TURBO, but the Turbo sticker looked just like the factory turbo sticker from a 2WD Turbo wagon, so if someone made a fake, at least they used a stock sticker! Jessica got a picture with her phone but I haven't had a chance to get it off her phone. Does anyone know if a turbo justy ever existed? Possible import from Canada???
