Oil filter is a Casite CF3682, but I'd go with a genuine subaru, not too expensive ($6) Firing order is 1-3-2-4

Those spongy ones have air in them. If you get get them out of the motor, take them out and submerge them in clean oil, and pump them under the oil. Should expel the air. If you can't get them out, just set the valves the best you can and fire it up, it will clatter until they pump up.. I dunno if just dead cranking will generate enough oil pressure or not...

Jason your punk behind better call me when he gets here, I'll try to make it up. My clutch is almost gone, any boost at all makes it slip :-(

Auto Tranny problems AND MORE (HELP)
Hondasucks replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does it slip in reverse? Sounds like a high/reverse band to me... Do a stall test in reverse. Put the car in reverse, mash the brake as hard as you can and floor it for like 2 seconds. RPM should increase to 1500-2000 RPM or so, if it does that and holds, you are good. If it revs up way high, you are slipping. DO NOT hold it floored for more than 3-5 seconds, just long enough to verify that it is or isnt slipping. I wou;dn't rule the governor out, automatics can be weird. Very likely it's the high/reverse band*. * It's been a lil while and I can't remember whether the it's the low/reverse that uses a band, or the high reverse. One of the two is a band, the other is a "multi-disc brake" rather than a band, but I am fairly positive it is the low/reverse that uses teh brake. Regardless, it's the high reverse that I suspect. The band IS adjustable, on some models, however I do not remember exactly how to do it, and if you do it wrong the adjuster falls off the servo and you have to tear the tranny apart to fix it :-P But basically it is you loosen the lock nut, then you tighten the adjusting bolt down to a certain torque, which is usually given in inch-pounds, then you back off the adjusting bolt a certain number of turns, and tighten the lock nut. if you have a Haynes manual, the procedure is in there under Automatic Transaxle. -

I think my turbowagon should be getting an EJ22 with a Turbo (note I didn't say EJ22T, those are too damn hard to find, but I think sticking a stock EA82 Turbo onto an EJ22 N/A motor would pep it up a lil bit... Got a line on an NA Legacy wagon, 5 speed 4WD, crunched in the front, might be able to trade my Justy for the motor and wiring and crap... -

That's when you jam your throttle open with a stick and modulate it with the key Or use a shoelace out the window... -
I have heard of cams snapping, never on a Subaru though, Usually what does it on an OHC engine is if the head warps, the cam journals get out of alignment which causes teh cam to bind, but since Subaru heads are so small, I think it would have to be mega warped to snap that cam! There are some other things that will cause a cam to snap, check your valve springs, migth have gotten a chunk of somethiing stuck between the coils, causing the spring to bind up, that would break the cam if it happened at the rigth time.

I got a set of chrome Wolo air horns a while back for my car, they were like 36 bucks but that was several years ago. they are FREAKING LOUD, and trust me people KNOW when they piss ME off on the highway! I've blared the horn at some guy on the freeway who was blabbing on his cell phone at 75 MPH and HE heard me!

Sheet of Plywood hits my soob on the freeway
Hondasucks replied to subieman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I heard about someone that was cruising down the freeway in their truck, and slammed into an industrial air conditioning unit that had fallen off of the back of a semi and was sitting in the middle of the freeway (it was at night) They ended up tracking it down, because well, those things are hard to miss lol and someone had reported it missing. Good luck finding the MoFo.. -

Yeah dude, definately call the cops, and give as accurate of a description of the vehicle as possible, they'll find the bonehead eventually... I had something similar happen to me, back in the last snowstorm a hunk of ice flew off the top of some guys VW Eurovan camper thingie and smacked my windsheild. Luckily it didnt break teh glass, but it broke the trim around the window. He was going the other way and I couldnt whip around to go hunt him down (But you bet your tailfeathers I would have if he had broke the glass!) -
Your car is probably a 4.11 but I could be wrong, my 91 was 4.11. The transmission itself wouldn't be different, but there are probably several different speedometer drive gears, and if your car has the wrong one it will throw your speedo off. Best bet is to go to the subie dealer and order a drive gear for your car (EG 95 Legacy L AWD) I don't know about drive shaft differences etc.. I think the wagon and sedan are the same, but the Impreza might be shorter not sure. Easiesty way to tell ratio is to clean the crap off of the rear pumpkin and read teh sticker. Or mark the drive shaft and see how many revolutions it takes to make one revolution of the tires. If it takes slightly less than 4, then you hve 3.90 but most likely you hve 4.11.. I think the only ones wiht 3.90s were the Turbo models (Automatics might have had 3.90 as well, not sure) and the LSDs are HARD to find for those.

Where can I get a vacuum advance canister?
Hondasucks replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hmm.. Their prices for a vac. advance says 25 for single, 45 for double.. So by double they mean like what I have, where there is an Advance port and a Retard port, instead of just a single Advance port, right??? -

Go online and get some quotes, I have absolutely no idea how much it would cost, but if I had to guess I'd say anywhere from 500 to 1500 dollars. The last time I looked at auto transport, it was for a 94 Geo Prizm from Van Nuys, CA to Albany, OR and it ranged from 400 to 900... -

Remove and plug the vacuum line going to your EGR valve and see if it still idles rough. Stick your finger under teh diaphragm and lift up on it (The thing on the bakc of the valve with the vacuum line going to it), if the idle does not change, try taking the EGR valve off and clean it out wiht some solvent, it could be stuck open. (If it idles better when you unplug the vacuum line, then I'd suspect the solenoid is stuck open and is keeping the EGR valve open at all times, instead of just being open when it needs to be open) -
Whats this? "posi" marks from RXs????
Hondasucks replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's not that hard to convert.. Removed front axle + 4WD (or diff lock) = RWD w/ Front ebrake :-) Which makes for some phat burnouts (I know, I've left 100 feet of black in front of my house lol, wiht my 77 wagon I had... -
I just got done lowering mine. The front end dropped like almost 2" with the XT6 coils, and the rear Caboobaroo and I cut out 2 coils on each side, so now it sits level. Prolly gonna take another coil maybe two out of each to drop it a little more. I got some pic of it, plus a pic of it with NO coils in the rear at all :-) Looked pretty Mexi, cuz the rear was sitting on the bump stops but the front end was still stock
