Trashwagon "EJ82" wiring harness, ecu
Hondasucks replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
MAn, and I thought the front end on MY legacy was tweaked! Sheesh! Mine was straight in comparison! Nice work, Fox :-) -
For most of us, Weber does teh carburetor work, and the boneyard does the dizzy work. Your best bet on the carburetor, is to obtain a proper service manual, and a junkyard carburetor of the same type. Rebuild the junkyard unit, that way if you screw it up you have your original.

EA82T high idle 87 Turbowagon
Hondasucks replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I discovered today that if the car is shut off, and then restarted a lil bit later, the idle is more reasonable, about 1100 to 1200 RPM, but it doesn't idle at 800 like it used to! Could it be the IUCD for the A/C is not kicking off? Or is the idle bumped up by the computer... Cuz I don't hear teh idle kick up when the AC kicks in like it used to either... -
MY 87 turbowagon likes to idle high. It idles at about 2500 when cold, like it should, but when it warms up, it idles about 1200-1500 RPM. Sometimes it will drop down to 800 or so, but only for a second or two and then right back up to 1200. If I sit in it and rev it it usually stops. I have a spare manifold to take part off of, but I haven't the foggiest idea what could be wrong, aside from a bad IAC, but I don;'t even know where the IAC is on this thing, or if it even has one...

okay, first off, '84 heads have smaller valves than '85-88 EA81 heads do. (mechanical and hydraulic lifter engine difference) Plus, the SPFI intake is a lot more work than just "bolt on". But I'm sure you know that... you'll probably need to cut your hood and work a hood scoop on... but there are carbs out there that are "induction" approved... If in the 80s, they made turbo carbureted cars on production lines, I say it's all possible.

Go post this on the high mileage club -- http://www.subaruhighmileageclub.com/ he doesn't have many in the 300k section.. The 2.2s are perty bulletproof, I had a 91 with almost 200k on it, didnt' use much more oil than what yours does, althogh I ran 10w30.. I'd be careful with 5/30 in that engine, especially in the summer. I'd also be careful running Diesel oil, unless it has gas engine additives in it too, as Diesels require different additives. Amsoil 20W50 synthetic seems to be a good choice, it works in gas and diesel motors. My former boss had a dodge ram, 94, with a cummins turbo diesel, it had like, 260,000 miles on it, and a lot of those were idling through a field towing an 8000 pound baler.... Also, the neons blow at 80,000 cuz they are C R A P

Need a "4wd" decal from the back of an EA82
Hondasucks replied to syphon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did they have Turbo side decals in White? Cuz I'm thinkin of paintin my wagon black, and it would be kinda hard to use black decals on a black car :-P -
Could be a hidden switch for an alarm, my old Legacy had a toggle switch under the dash that would arm the alarm that it had. But it wasnt' hooked up to anything but the light so all it would do was to make the light on the dash flash...

here's some pics of my new toy.. Still debating whether to rally it, or fix it up and sell it.. cuz I could use $500 more than I could use a rally car :-P but here are soem pics: http://usmb.net/gallery/album185

Where the hell are the timing marks on this thing??? I timed it by ear (dizzy was missing the bolts) and got it to where it seems to have more pep... Also, the damn thing won't turn off!! I have to pull the fuse to shut it off.. I think it's the switch but not sure, since it will crank with the key...

Go down to your local community college and see if they have an auto program, and if they do, see if they have a carbonclean machine, we have one @ LBCC, and we charge $20 for a treatment. It works too, I did this to my Legacy, swear it gave it 20 HP and it bumped up the mileage a few MPG too :-) If you can't find a CC that will do it, I'd look arouind, as I've seen it fro as low as 60 bucks, 140 seems way steep to me...

Hondasucks replied to syphon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmm.. I need to get a "4WD Turbo" sticker for my hatch since my wagon has a Loyale hatch on it so it just says "4WD".. Also need new "4WD Turbo" decals for the side... I wonder if I could still get those from the dealer.... -
Well, I COULD use an aftermarket tach, but I'd have to find one that would work with a three cylinder, or build a pulse convertor taht spits out two pulses for every three it gets in....

Picked up a rally car today :-) 1988 or 87 DL Justy, it's FWD but it's a 5 speed :-) And it was free :-) After sitting for two years it fired right up after jumping it and spraying some starting fluid down the carb.. Couple of questions: Where do I find a Tach for this thing? Does anyone write a decent repair manual for it?? Would my Weber fit?? Anything else I shoudl be aware of.. YEah it's a Subaru, but it's a totally different breed of beast and I know next to nothing about it :-P I'll post some pics tomorrow...

On the bottom of yhe tranny you will see three bolts in a row, I think they are a 10mm head. Take each one out one by one and check the condition of the ball and spring. Might need to stretch and/or replace the spring, or replace theball if it is worn. The balls ride in grooves in teh shift rails and are what holds it in gear, when they wear out or get loose, then it wont' stay in gear. Usually the balls wear, and replacement will fix it, btu sometimes the detent in the shift rail gets worn and in that case, you have to replace the shift rail. Yous hould be able to get teh balls and springs from the dealer for relatively cheap.

Methinkie I should do that to the Justy I am getting to make into a rally car.. that'd be cool, turbo justy rally car:-) Too bad it's not a fuel injected Justy....

Hondasucks replied to Buddythedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Man, I think my wagon needs a Legacy motor.. My Legacy got like, 28-30 on the freeway, and about 25 in town.... Adn I dunno what is up, I've been letting Caboobaroo drivei the 86 to work, and he got like, 350 miles on his last tank before teh fuel light came on, and it has exhaust leaks and a cracked head!!!! -
