SVX engine in an EA81 hatch...?
Hondasucks replied to JonOfScio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Jon, if I were you, I'd go with either an EA81T (EA82T might work, but it would be a tigher fit) or an EJ22 (or EJ22T) Either one of the EJ series motors would make your car SCREAM, adn the EA81T would make it haul some serious tail. Honda killer either way. The cheaper route of the two would be an EA81T, cuz all you'd really have to do is find an EA81 Turbo Coupe, and swap the engine and all the wiring and stuff, it would all swap in I'm sure, and that would be a killer Soob! You could either use the 4WD out of the turbo coupe, or just keep your car 2WD with the current 5 speed, which would work just fine. The Turbo coupe would have a 3-speed automatic, with pushbutton 4WD, so it would be better to use a manual, otherwise the car won't really be any faster than it is now. -

smog testing in California sucks...need help
Hondasucks replied to Marck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
HC is Hydrocarbons, which is raw fuel. You are running rich in other words. Check your fuel system, and your fuel pressure regulator. Bad cat MIGHT do it, since that is one of the things that the Cat scrubs from your exhaust. Another thing that can do it though is if oil is sneaking into the exhuast, from worn rings, or valve stem seals. There is some "emissions reducer" crap you can get from the store, that in most cases is guaranteed to make your car pass or they pay for the test or sumpin. My auto teacher told me something about running the car a quart low on oil and putting like, a cup of Formaldehyde in the gas tank??? He said something about it eventually damaging the motor, but ti will pass emissions. -

That was kinda dumb that they trashed it, but hopefully they like, recovered the RC stuff, that would be like, hella cool to do with a Sube, except for the jumping and rolling part. "Yeah, well check out MY RC Monster Car".. lol I'd so race Civics light to light with something like that, with like, a blow-up doll behind the wheel

EA81 struts on my 79 wagon
Hondasucks replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Russ I think you HAVE EA81 struts on your car, since I dont' think the EA71 cars ever came with the adjustable struts, but I could be wrong. My 77 didnt; have 'em..... -
I just put a XT6 rear bar in my GL turbo, I have the XT6 bar for the front too, haven't put it in yet though. So your Buick was actually DAMAGED by the Honda????

Yeah my Dad took our 93 Ford van to Q Lube one time, and they only put 5 quarts of oil in, but the engine in the van took 6 quarts. My dad had to get out the owner's manual and show the "technician" where it said in there that the engine took 6 quarts of oil. When we lived in California, Dad took the van to a similar place a couple of times, and they always checked all teh fluids, or so they said, since the monkeypisser tank (aka washer tank) had a hole in it, so it only held like 1/4 of a tank of fluid, but yet on their check sheet, it was always listed as "FULL" I always change my oil myself :-P and if I did take it to one of those places, and they f**ked up my car, they would be paying to have the DEALER replace it with a genuine part :-) (well, giving me the money to anyway, cuz I'd just go to the JY...)

Do those use a hot-wire MAF, or a Vane type MAF? If it's Vane, you *might* be able to use a MAF off of an older Turbo car, or MPFI car. not sure though.

spiralmax super charger?!?!
Hondasucks replied to shanonsf's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it says it has a 30 day unconditional moneyback guarantee. Granted, swirling the A/F mixture does help it mix better, this is the principle behind the Vortec engine. (Although the Vortec swirls it at the intake ports in the heads, not the throttle body) Maybe someone coudl buy it and see if it works and send it back :-P -
Tex you rock! By the way, my left nut your wagon and RX are stock! I've seen 'em both :-P

Anybody have a wiring diagram for the stereo in an 87 EA82 wagon? I need to know what to hook my CD player up to as far as power and stuff goes. I know I need to re-wire the speakers, since they are Common Ground.

The Pick A Part in Albany, has a set of Motion wheels, with rubber, dunno how much, prolly 100 bucks, but they are sharp looking + with center caps, and they also have a set of Rally wheels, but they don't have tires on them. Thought I'd put the word out. I don't have their number handy, but if I find it I'll post it, but you should be able to get it from directory assistance, it's called Pick-A-Part and they are in Albany, Oregon

Ever seen a Brat stuck in the mud? You're about to...

Most RX trannies are dual range, full-time 4WD with a locking center diff. The Early RX's (85 only I think, 86 might have had it too, not sure) were a part-time 4WD dual range box, but those trannies are hard to find.
