How long have you owned your EA81 / EA82?

86 dl 2WD 4SPD hatch base model (no carpet crank winsows, ect) 4 years i think. i bought from original owner w/ 56k mi. now over 100k -
my 86 hatch won't start when the temp is below 45 deg f or so. i tried wiring the fuel pump from a switched source the fuel pump ran but no start. today the ambient temp was > 50 deg and it started right up. just for fun i checked the original wires to the fuel pump and it had power (with engine running) wtf?

oh be sure and search the samba http://www.thesamba.com

this site is not very active but search though it and you will find much good info including the mysterious aussie belly radiator http://bb.bbboy.net/vwengineconversions

the transmissions are different. the 67 and earlier busses have reduction boxes the beetle trannies don't. peole have swapped bus trannies into bugs and vice versa but it not a "plug in" swap. you can check THE SAMBA for more infohttp://thesamba.com

you might check the accelerator pump. carb kits are cheap. you might try a rebuild on the carb.

anyone have experience or opinion on putting a subaru ea engine in a early (1971) bay window vw bus? i want reliability and the ability to tow a jet ski tailer at a reansable speed. the price of a suby conversion looks less than a modified vw air-cooled engine but i don't really know. tia
