Some months ago, prior to this worldwide "quarantine times" we were in a weekend car ride to another town nearby, in this Kia, when Suddenly we felt a burnt wirings' Smell!!! So, after reaching to a restaurant to lunch, I checked my Wife's car, this kia sephia, from top to bottom, everywhere, without finding anything wrong. Right after lunch, the car needed several key turns to catch start its engine, which isn't normal for it... then we went to the Supermarket. While my Wife and my Daughter were shopping groceries, vegetables, etc... I returned to check further on the "KiaStein" but didn't see anything wrong... and the thing took much more tries prior to get the engine running. So, we decided to go back home immediately; we reached home but the car's engine died in the sidewalk, just while she were parking, with no avail to restart it... After that, I spent the whole weekend trying to figure out what the heck could be happening... I felt like my Dog, smelling and smelling around the car, inside and outside to find the area where the bad smell like burning wiring was gererating. As the car seemed to fail a couple of times during the short trip back home; just like if it was short on gasoline; I smelled around the rear seat area and managed to find the smell's origin there... (it wasn't a Fart for sure) ...so I decided to remove the rear seat and check the Fuel Pump's Wiring. Everything looked alright, but the smell was stronger in that area... so I decided to extract the whole fuel pump assembly, in order to check the Wiring inside the Fuel Tank. Even the pump assembly looked alright then... -

I didn't noticed that my friends list was erased by the New forum's software, so I added some of them...
It is Sad to see that the last date of being in USMB for many friends, dates from three years ago... or more.
I dislike Facebook Subaru Groups because their contents fades away easily...

Well, I'm facing a huge problem to find a new web site to Host my numerous photos to share on the Forums; since the Fiasco of Photobucket, (More info ~► Here) and I have lots of new Photos & procedures to Share, not only here in USMB, but also to share in some other web forums, always regarding my Repairs and Modifications done on cars... I was searchin' for a suitable Replacement to Photobuckshít, while an elder man, from another town near where I live, came to my home seeking help to do a simple tuneup on his first gen Subaru Legacy; the car was so in very bad shape but still running strong; and featured a nice EJ22 with the LADM (Latin American Domestic Market) Specs, you know... Carb & Disty from Factory. Simplicity at its Best, you know... couple it to a 4WD and you'll find the perfect, afordable vehicle for our Rural Areas. The few background stories I heard from the Owner, includes Three (yes, 3) roll overs and four crashes including a donkey and a cow, at night in curves... Yes, this Subaru is a Beater for Sure, and after changing Sparkplugs, Air Filter, Gasoline Filter, some cleansing on its carb, and Oil & filter; the thing purred like a kitten. So, Let me Share some photos of said LADM Specs EJ22 and at the same time, I'll try IMGUR as web host for my Photos:

EA82 Oversized oil filter

I agree with GD, there is no advantage in use a big oil filter, in fact a tiny oil filter aids to keep the oil pressure, by modern standards... Some people does the Twin Weber conversion, not only in EA series but in EJ series too, maybe because the goal is the achievement to build it, maybe for the looks... some others in order to avoid the wiring and ECU swap on the famous "EJ it" retrofitting... ...I agree with GD, that a well tuned 32/36 or a 38/38 DGAS Weber carburetor, will permorm the same, with less effort and better simplicity; but if you want to do so, go ahead and do it; because I know that other of the reasons to do such a swap, is for having fun working with tools on your car; as automotive mechanics also are a nice Hobby to have... Long years ago, I found a chemical that doesn't damage anything and only takes a little effort to rub out anything debris, glue, paint, etc... it is a chemical used in varnished wood for furniture, known locally as the "Red Oil" ... let me find a picture for you: ~► https://gatesantiques.com/product/gates-red-oil-for-furniture/ Here is easy to find, locally made versions of it... it takes some minutes to penetrate on the paper / glue \ dirt, then, buff it with a soft cloth such as an old cotton t-shirt, and the glue will be removed, easily. This works in painted surfaces, plastic surfaces, etc... without harming. Kind Regards.

Oil and Oil Filters Since New, my beloved subaru "BumbleBeast" has been using 20W~50 motor oil on its EA82 engine, (that SAE grade is for our warm caribbean climate) but in mineral form; mainly from Chevron and Motul; and I changed its oil and Filter at the proper interval, around 3,000 miles. When it became impossible to find an original Subaru oil filter on local stores anymore... ...I used the Recommended oil filter in Purolator brand, for the EA82 engine, which is the Purolator L-24457 Sometimes it wasn't easy to obtain it locally, so I used the Equivalent with slightly larger body, Purolator L-20064 However, larger body means less oil pressure on the system, so with time, I migrated to the Purolator L-10028 When newer oil technology came, with the development of Synthetic motor oils, I chose to use Valvoline's "MaxLife" motor oil, which is formulated to be used in Higher mileage vehicles; I adopted it since year 2012 (despite that I've read about it long years ago on magazines, it took some time to reach my Country and more time to lower its price on the local market) firstly I tried "MaxLife" in ATF form on my Wife's car with excellent results, then in Power Steering fluids on her car and mine; finally I switched to this "MaxLife" in Motor Oil also... ...circa 2014, which was a hard year (for me), with big decisions to take... one of them was to use this oil on extended periods of time, which I wasn't accustomed and I was afraid to try, but I gave it a go, and seems like the hardest part was to obtain a long life, synthetic oil filter to go with this oil. It doesn't make any sense to pour a long life motor oil, with a standard cardboard filter, isn't it? So, after searching, studying and analyzing my options; I found a small, synthetic oil filter with long lifespan, designed to be used extended times, and it had very Good opinions and reputation online, in web sites and forums dedicated to motor oils and filters; but this filter is much smaller than the oil filter recommended for the Subaru EA82 engine; which according to modern lubrication standards, is Better, as a smaller bodied filter aids to keep a higher oil pressure in the system, which is ideal for this engine and its exigent hydraulic lifters... you know. Here is the Oil Filter I chose, compared side to side with the older one which I used for long years: The Napa Platinum 41394 is made by Wix and is pretty small, but satisfies the requirements of the EA82 engine. Here are the Specs: here, you can see how this small oil filter, fits on the EA82's oil pump Base: And, believe it or not; I've been changing the Motor Oil on my Subie's EA82 on a Yearly basis, due to two reasons, money is tight and I am not using it so hard as it was used before 2014, since my small family and I, moved from the big city, to a small mountain high town, in the rural Honduras. I've been changing this synthetic "MaxLife" 20W~50 motor oil along the Napa 41394 synthetic oil filter, every December, since 2014, and the Subie runs flawlessly, no problems so far, despite it surpasses 400,000 miles; also the old used oil still comes out pretty good. That was completely unexpected, he was absolutely Healthy and Strong, he was driving some minutes before his heart decided to completely stop suddenly; he reached the Milestone of Fifty years of continous ownership of this Mercury, but we didn't the celebration voyage that we planned to go with all the Family... Thank so much to you both, for your kind words, which I really appreciate. I have stopped working on cars for a while... then I had to service the Automatic trans on the "KiaStein" while my Subie "BumbleBeast" keeps going on Strong without any issue, but my Mercury lies inert on the Garage... Looks like a Car that has been parked since new there, flawless but covered in Dust, the tires are loosing their air, they're at half pressure now, and despite of having a Compressor at home, I don't find the courage yet to touch it... I can't find the Courage to work on it, the new electric Fuel Pump and the eBay obtained exhaust gasket lies somewhere in the back seats, but someday I will take a Photo of the Rusted Fuse Box which really needs to be substituted, I want something modern in order to find fuse replacements easier... Those are pretty abundant here in Honduras / Latin America, but the entirely built by Kia versions, called Kia Besta (short van and there are newer versions with larger body); I've never seen a Ford Version, but this doen't surprise me, as we have many Mazdas, sold as Kia and Ford side by side here, since the 1970's Ford Courier / Kia Master \ Mazda B1600 or Sundowner, almost all same products were traded in those three brands, but they vary in their country of origin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Bongo Kia sells those as Trucks here, also. Kia Frontier / K 2700 \ K 3000 We also have Japanese-made Ford Rangers all these years, non stopping despite that in USA their sales stopped some years... those are Mazda BT50 / Ford Ranger. The car has been running Great, for a twenty years old Korean car... the Shock Absorbers started to leak, but they are the Original ones that came with the Car, so the suspension on this sedan is very good and strong; it handled great even in our unpaved roads, the offroadings and the plenty-of-pot-holes "paved" roads, there are even pot holes inside the pot holes here...
