Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The front e-Brake system becomes a Nightmare when is Old & Rusty ... I completely got Rid of that, as you can Read & See ~► Here from post Nº 61, then I Retrofitted a Reliable & Simple Rear e-Brake system on my "BumbleBeast" as you can see & Read ~► Here. Kind Regards. -

weber carb on an ea81 in a subaru standard!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to saturn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, the EA82 intake will not fit as a Direct Bolt-On on the EA81 engine, but you can make it happen with minor mods. Very Kindly, let me Suggest this Idea to Saturn: Why don't you Sell your Huge Trans-Dapt 2107 (EA82) Adaptor to another Subaru Owner with a Carburated EA82 engine, and Buy the proper Redline-Weber Adapter for the EA81 Engine? Because Despite that the Redline-Weber Adapter for the EA82 Sucks due to its two-plate design; their EA81 Adapter works just Fine, because is a Single Plate Adapter, not too tall like the Trans-Dapt one. I Believe that followin' my advice will simplify things a lot for you... Kind Regards. -
By seeing your Photos, if I were you, I would swap a Weber Carburator on that engine and I would get Rid of all the emmissions Stuff, such like Canister and EGR valve, But I believe you want to Keep it Stock, isn't it? Also, the egine's Head Gaskets might be Worn out... Have you considered a Full Engine Reseal? Kind Regards.

Well... when I Wrote the Writeup about to retrofit a Rear e-Brake on a EA82 with Rear Disc Brakes, I mentioned that you could leave the original (Stock) Front e-Brake intact while you install the Rear e-Brake, so you'll have Twin Handles... but there's No Specific writeup beside that, as far as I Recall. Kind Regards.

weber carb on an ea81 in a subaru standard!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to saturn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not exactly "Yes and Yes" ... because '88 and '89 GL's should be EFi, not Carburated... especially in USA. So, Yes, you can use an EA82 intake manifold, but it should came from a Carburated Model, not an EFi Model... ...unless you want to convert your EA81 to EFi which has been done too... All that information is in my Weber Swap Writeup, which I Posted a link above. Kind Regards. -
Well, If the MSD Coil that you might choose, has Resistance values closer to the Stock Specs, your Ignition Module should be Safe... I Said No to MSD but Yes to Accel, which is another brand... My BumbleBeast has been working fine for years, with an Accel SuperStock High Vibration Coil, which features 45K Volts Output and resistance values closer to Stock Specs. I Kindly suggest to be Wise, choosing the Coil as Close as Stock Specs Resistance values. Kind Regards.

weber carb on an ea81 in a subaru standard!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to saturn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Carburator's Base on the EA81 intake manifold is Smaller than the one on the EA82, and the Trans-Dapt 2107 Adaptor Plate does fit the EA82's Base... in other words: That adaptor plate is Bigger than the Base on the EA81 intake Manifold... But you can Weld the adaptor plate to the intake. Kind Regards. -
More detailed Background info of your car is needed to Properly answer your Question, but I guess it is an EA81. The answer is: NO Those MSD Blaster Coils could be dangerous (in my Own Opinion) to use in a Subaru's Distribuitor, because their Resistance Value is different than the Stock Coil's Value, so those MSD's could Fry the Distribuitor's Electronic Ignition Module, especially if it is 26 years old... For the EA82, the Closest Resistance Value to the Stock Coil, on an High Vibration Coil, is found on the Accel SuperStock 8140, which features Epoxi instead of Oil... those resistance values are the same for the EA81, isn't it? Kind Regards.

The Trans-dapt 2107 won't fit on the EA81 intake, but a good idea is to take that intake and the adapter to a Shop for a Professional Aluminium Welding. I've done a Writeup about the Weber Swap onto a EA82... is pretty similar to the EA81 and my Jetting Experiences are... ~► Here. Kind Regards. -
Yep, I use the services of a Cargo Courier Co. wich offers to me a Free "Virtual Address" in Miami, Florida, and everything that goes with my name there, is automatically shipped to Honduras, where I pay the Shipping costs as I receive any package... The comapany is ~► this. But I'm in Honduras... very near to USA, I don't know if there is a Similar service to Ship packages to Chile... Kind Regards.

I've seen Imprezas & Legacies with V8 Engines, even with V12... but is rare to come across to such a Swap onto an Old-School Subie... ~► ~► http://www.rusker.com/blog/2009/08/30/subaru-impreza-sti-v8-build-cosworth-engine/ ~► http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?p=96192 Good Luck! My "BubleBeast" has been Running with a Good Quality (Gates) hose designed for Fuel / Pressure (It has nylon cord in the Rubber) since years ago, without any problem... The curve's angle is soft... you can buy a Feet of that hose and install it along a Clamp for each end, and Voilá. ~► Look Here Kind Regards.

Ha, Ha! ... ... So I Better Watch out for my Subie during late night hours...

Ooh! ... ... I Missed that one! Well, No, it doesn't "Self-Transform" so it is Not a Transformer ... ... but it has been Somehow "Transformed" -by my many Mods- onto a More Capable Vehicle. in my Own Humble Opinion at least... Kind Regards.

Well... you Know I love History. Hybrids aren't anything New... the Very first in 1900 ... ... was the 4WD "Mixte" built by Ferdinand Porsche; which had an Electric Motor to power the wheels, a couple of Batteries, and a Gasoline Motor was mounted to move a pair of Generators, to extend reliability; it even broke Speed Records then, and won a Rally in 1901, driven by Porsche himself. More info: ~► http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_electric_vehicle#Early_days _______________________________________ About the Subaru "Tourer" Hybrid... it remembers me the Subaru "Exiga" Concept: it was shown for Years in auto shows, with minor changes, until it was Released for Sale... The Early (2009) Subaru Tourer Hybrid concept, was Modified and Renamed as "Subaru Celeno": As Usual, more info on the "Strange & Weird Subaru Stuff" Thread, ~► Here. ____________________________________________________________________________ But Subaru had another Hybrid Concept Before: 2005 Subaru B5-TPH with a "Turbo Parallel Hybrid" Engine: Once Again, that Photo is taken from the Above Mentioned Thread, where you can Read more info about those, Also ~► http://www.supercars.net/cars/3221.html Kind Regards.

Final attempt to save my roo
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Subaru_dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I need to know more Background history from that Weber carb you "Dropped" in that engine. Maybe it is Clogged / Dirty \ wrong jetted... or has worn internal gaskets. It is an Used Weber, isn't it? Even if it doesn't develop any vacuum leak, the carb itself could have an internal gasoline leak... So, if you don't know much about that weber, I kindly suggest you to dissasemble it to Clean the inner parts. Also to change the internal Gaskets... Good Luck! Kind Regards.
