The Awesome Vehicle Picture Thread
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to TheLoyale's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
There are Some of Those Here... Also, Nissan Presidente: I Rode long time ago in a Nissan Presidente from 1973... The Sound of a Japanese V8 is so Soft that it seemed to be an in-line Six Cyl car; it Still belongs to a Friend of my Dad who Lives in Capital City. Kind Regards. -
More Reasons to Love Old-School Subarus... I'll Like to see Pics Please! ... including the Socket on the Sparkplug's opening, to get the whole Area's Idea... Maybe there's another way to do that... Seems to be so Difficult that might be easy to damage the Head's thread if the Sparkplugs aren't not properly Screwed... Could you use your Hands to put the New Sparkplugs in Place? Did you Finished the Job Already?

It Sounds to me like the Electric fan has a Short Circuit itself... I Kindly Suggest you to Test it Directly with Power from the Battery and Watch for Hard Spinning and / or Wires Getting Too Hot. In that case, I Suggest to Swap it with a New, aftermarket one, usually those draw less Voltage and the ones with Curvy Blades trend to Move More Air. If the Original electric fan Runs Fine directly powered, then there should be a Problem with the car's Wires. Kind Regards.

Can I plug the EGR port?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
To Discuss about The EGR Stuff in the EA82 Engines is like Open a Can of Worms; but I've an Answer: The EA82 Engines had Three Different Designs on Heads, they're Pictured here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1078817&postcount=1204 The Third Gen Heads Doesn't have the EGR opening on it, it's Sealed... so Subaru got Rid of it in that particular Engine, I Wonder if it really isn't very Healthy on that EA82 Design. So, my BumbleBeast, which have Third gen Heads, doesn't have EGR and works Awesome; but the PCV is REALLY Needed. Kind Regards. -

Did they sell me two left head gaskets?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... I Knew about Iron Maiden's "Stranger in a Strange Land" :-p And I've read once about an EA82 Running with Flipped Heads, but with EGR Disabled... So, those Head Gaskets must be OK, just test them on the Heads Prior to Install, to see if they Block the EGR. Kind Regards. -

Very interesting Ideas... Thank you for Share. Could I Ask you more info about the Rims on your Subie? Kind Regards. -
Are you Sure it is Oil? Because if it is Clean as you wrote, and the area you Found it makes me Think it Could Be Brake Fluid (mixed with Dust) coming from the Master Cylinder to the Brake Booster and from there to the area you Wrote. Pictures could Help but I Kindly Suggest you to Check & Follow those Wires from the Brake Area for Brake Fluid Leaks. Kind Regards.

Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to adrianscott's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome! If that is a 1600, it will be an EA71 Engine, but Looking at this Photo: it Looks like the EA82 Engine which is 1800 and have Timing Belts. If so, the Knock Sound could be from bad Timing. Please confirm the type of Engine you have, or Upload more pics of it in order to Help you. Kind Regards. -
I will Love to see Pictures of that XT... Could you post some when you obtain it? The Turbo on the EA82 Engine, pushes it to its Limits and Needs much attention, specially to its Hoses (Tiny & Big ones) but if it is well maintaned, it will Last for Years, and the XT is a Fast, nice & Rare Car. The Timing Belts are the Rubber Bands Hiding inside the Black Plastic Covers in Front of the Engine; it has Two, one for each head to Move the Valves... I'm Sure that you will need to Change 'em Soon, because they become brittle and could Fail with Age, despite its Mileage. So I Kindly suggest you to Change ALL the Hoses, Vacuum Hoses and Fluids as Soon as Possible. Kind Regards.

lets talk gear ratio's!! in ea82 manual
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to wilcox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Usually, the 32/36 Weber Carb is Known in the EA82's scene more for the Lower end Torque... but it adds some Faster Acceleration and Helps the Upper end too. Maybe certain EA82's with their Craptachi Carb doesn't reach RPM's Higher than 6,200 due to the Craptachi's carb issues, Smog Stuff issues, etc... but other "Tired" Engines might have (also) Worn valves that doesn't seal very well the Cams... Kind Regards. -
The Weber Nomenclature is very confusing, but as Far as I Know and I understood, it goes like This: The Numbers in a Weber denote the Throttle Plate bore, Not the throat and Constitute the "Prefix". The Letters immediately following the prefix refer, in Italian, to the general type of the carburetor. For Weber only a few are consistant, specifically: - DC "doppio corpo" (Means: Double Throat) - V "verticale" (Means: Vertical) - O "orizzontale" (Means: Horizontal) - I "invertito" (Means: Inverted, in like in the IDA) Yet there are No Updraft Weber Carburetors, the IDA is a Downdraft model. Less Consistant Designations: - E for die cast body - F for Ford, Ferrari or Fiat applications - V are Carburators with a power valve assembly - A for Water operated Chokes - E for electric Chokes Any Numbers following the letters are Variations of the Basic type. In Example: 45DCOE9 is a variant of the 45DCOE... but please also keep in mind that there are 10 subvariants of the DCOE9 ... ... Therefore, the Weber Nomenclature follows the Lucas Wiring model... Chaos! For instance, the IDA "inverted double water choke" is a Downdraft carb Which could have Three throats and typically has No choke at all... The 40 DCO is a 40mm Throttle Plate with a Double Throat Horizontal Carb, fitted to the Alfa Romeo Guilietta Veloce and follows the nomenclature perfectly; But The 40 DCOE used in later Alfa Romeos is Not die cast, does Not have an Electric Choke... ...in this case the E stands for the Trapezoid Mounting bolt pattern, Rather than the DCO's Rectangular Pattern. The Weber Jet Sizing is a Numeric Nomenclature which actually is a Flow Rating in hundreds of a millimeter, and is very Reliable. If you are using Emulsion tubes however there is no Hope in linking numbers with tube sizing. Because the Emulsion tube numbers were assigned Chronologically. In Example: an F-45 tube was designed after the F-44 but that says Nothing about its Size or Performance. Just to make things Thoroughly Twisted, some idle jets have F numbers like emulsion tubes that indicate their ability to Emulsify Fuel. Here is a Link with Pics of Weber Carbs and their most usual Nomenclatures: http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/Weber_Carburetors_s/2.htm Kind Regards.
-
As you wrote, it really says "DGAV" on the carb's Body, which means that it originally came factory with Water Choke, so if it has an Electric Choke, that electric choke must be an addition, because Weber uses the "DGAV" Nomenclature for those Carbs that comes factory with Water Choke and "DGEV" for those who comes factory with Electric choke. Kind Regards.

Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to 6 Star's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It will not Fit without too much hard modifying work and it will need its own Mitsubish¡t Transmission, etc... To do that, is Better Idea to buy a Used Mitsu... Kind Regards. -
Welcome! Check the Engine's Maintenance History... How long time ago were Changed the Timing Belts? The XT came with the EA82 and the EA82T (Turbo) Engines, the First one is Durable but the Second one has Bad Reputation. Both can Develop a "Tik Tik" Sound on the Valves, that is commonly known here as the "Tick of Death" (T.O.D.) But that isn't too bad, it is done by the Hydraulic Lifters, usually because a Fail on the Oil Pump / Oil Pump's "Mickey Mouse" Shaped seal letting Air mix with engine's Oil. There's a Whole World of Subaru information here... Could you Post Pictures of that XT and your Old Subies? We Love Pictures here! Kind Regards.
