  1. Yes... I always wondered why the Timing belts are covered while the outside (Fan, alt, A/C...) Belts are "Nude" also the Material seems to be similar. I Guess that the Covers are for Protecting them, but also for add Styling to the Engine. If the Outside Belts and Timing belts are made from the same / similar material and the outside ones can bear the Hot water / steam wash very well... I believe there will be no problem with that. Kind Regards.
  2. Here you Go: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/71510-ideas-on-swaping-a-weber-carb-on-ea82%C2%B4s/ The Last Post on that writeup, has the Pictures and indications for the EA82, yours is a EA81 but the Main ideas applies as well. Kind Regards.
  3. The most Fun option is to EJ the Loyale using the Legacy's EJ engine & Wiring harness + ECU, so you'll have a Great DD with it. Then, you can make the Weirdest thing: EA the Legacy... ...to Sell it Running That will be Funny also ... ... Kind Regards.
  4. Reading on the Web site: "The Truth About Cars" I Found an interesting interview with The Chief engineer in charge of the New Subaru / Toyota Sports Coupe. Complete Story & Pics could be found following the Link Below: "The Truth About The FT-86. Straight From The Mouth Of The Chief Engineer" So, Subaru beside the Developing of the New FB Engines, is Developing a Complete New Engine, The D4-S
  5. Ha, Ha! ... ... LoL! I've seen Blue Led Lights on Engines, but only in Motorcycles How will Look my BumbleBeast's Weberized EA82 with Blue Leds illuminating its Engine internals? ... somehow Like This?: I Guess that Rice mod will add +2 Hp to my Wagon Kind Regards.
  6. Dieseling is due to Two Facts: Weber Carbs doesn't have the Fuel Cutting Solenoid, so when you Shut the car off, fuel is Still flowing in the Carb, feeding the Cylinders. The Cylinders must have Hot Spots on their Combustion Chambers, so they substitute the Spakplugs and ignite the Fuel / air Mixture. So to avoid Dieseling, you might do one or both Solutions: Clean the Engine internals to remove too much carbon deposits, that turns into Hot Spots. This could be Done using Seafoam or other similar products. Install the Fuel Cutting Solenoid on the Weber Carb. Kind Regards.
  7. Yes, You're Right! ... ... I Love Simplicity, and coverless timing belts are Simplier to Service, plus Easier to Check their state, and the ternsioners, etc... Now I feel more confident to steam wash the EA82 engine with Coverless timing belts ... ... Kind Regards.
  8. No snow here for sure, but I tend to drive 60% on Road and 40% off-roading, So my subie Runs on Gravel / Muddy \ Dusty Roads very frequently. Kind Regards.
  9. Could I Kindly ask if you already installed those on the engine, and how is the whole setup Working? Kind Regards.
  10. That's due to the increased oil Pressure from the High RPM's ... but that won't cure the cause of the T.O.D. Sound, Just will hide its Symptoms. Usually the tic of death Sound on EA82's are mainly caused by two reasons (but there are more) the "Mickey Mouse" Shaped seal on the Oil pump being worn and "Sucked" letting air bubbles on the Oil, also could be caused by a Worn Oil Pump. Kind Regards.
  11. Your EA82 Radiator should was a Single row one, isn't it? Two Row Radiators perform better on High Work. Kind Regards.
  12. Usually I wash my Cars' Engines, two or three times per Year. However, I have not washed this EA82 engine since I removed the Covers... Kind Regards.
  13. Welcome! Do you still keep any old photos of your '82? Kind Regards.
  14. Well, I've seen in my Country LOTS of Toyota Landcruisers with Factory Snorkel like that, also Toyota fits factory Snorkels on other Models, such like the Landcruiser Pick-up. I don't know if here (Latin America) will be avaliable the same version as Australia, but usually our markets are the Same, because our people trend to Abuse their cars very Much. I've helped another USMB friend, Phizinza, from Australia, to Find parts for his Bro's Landcruiser, USA didn't get that model but we had it here. As seen here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=116405 Kind Regards.
  15. Sounds like you have a very nice Project for the Coming months... Holy Cow! ... I've never seen one of those, Could you post Pics, please? Kind Regards.
  16. Yes, more info of the engine and the Weber itself will clear the situation. I had the "Leaking fuel" problem long time ago on my 32/36 Weber and it was done by a Worn Accelerator's pump diaphragm. If your subaru was Carbureted already before the Weber Swap, the Fuel pump is enough for it and shall not need the Return Line, unless it was EFi, because those have a more powerful Fuel Pumps. Kind Regards.
  17. I'm Sure you'll Fix it! ... The Drawing shows some parts to Fix that issue on the SPFi EA82 engines that might be Still availabe at the Subaru Dealer. Good Luck! Kind Regards.
  18. Then Sand-Paper and the other one, in Brick Red Colour. Here you can see How the Parts Looked Like after the Two Layers epoxi Treatment and More Sand-Paper:
  19. Then the Parts received an Epoxi anti-Rust Treatment that consist on Two Layers, one Light Grey colour...
  20. Prior to install the Lift Kit, I had to make it the more Rust Proof I Could; so First I inmersed the parts on phosphoric acid for some days, it will Remove any rust those parts might Have and leave them with a Black Metal Colour. As could be Read here: http://home.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-rust.htm This Picture Shows somehow, the Moment after removing the Parts from that Acid Bath: (Sorry for my Cheap Cellphone camera pic)
  21. Yes, My BumbleBeast has near 300,000 Miles of Rude, Hard Driving, 65% of that under our Caribbean Heavy Weather conditions and we have many unpaved roads... So Dust might worn the Rings enough to let the Driver's side head to Blow a certain amount of Oil thru its 5/8" Hose. I Run it with Motul 20W~50 Mineral oil. Since my BumbleBeast is Carbureted, the oil originally went to the Air filter's Box and sometimes to the old craptachi's carb throat; so when I Swapped the Weber carb in year 2006, I first let the Hoses "Open" (unhooked) while I obtained the Oil Catch can to avoid that Oil in the intake. My Subaru came Brand new from the Dealer in California (USA) in 1985, Straight to Honduras... all across Mexico & Central America. I Can't imagine a Better way to Break New any engine... The EA82 Keeps Runnin' Strong and Compression tests gives me Great Numbers; so There's no Real Need to Change the Piston Rings. I've only Changed the Heads for the Third Gen EA82 Heads in 1995, due to a Head Gasket Failure and overheating, my Dad poured fresh water and Broke the Original Head. Beside that Heads and the Weber Swap, I've only modified the intake (you can read further here) and I Changed the Vacuum advance, from dual ports to a Single Port one. (Better for the Weber) on that engine, plus an Accel SuperStock Coil. Kind Regards.
