  4. it is important for You to know Which Compressor have your Subie, Because Subaru Used Two Different A/C Setups on the EA82 Engine, one -the more Known and seen- was "Hitachi" and the another -rare seen- was "Panasonic" The Hitachi Compressor comes Between the Alternator and the Power Steerin` Pump (if it has that Feature), while the Alternator goes Next to the Battery; the Panasonic Compressor comes in the Place of the Alternator, next to the Battery and the Alternator goes Between it and the Power Steerin` Pump. It is Hard to have a Really "Dead" Compressor, Usually the Many A/C Electrical Relays trend to Fail due to Age and Use, leading to a Whole A/C System Failure... if you are Completely Sure that there`s No Problem with your Subie`s A/C Electrical Circuits, then you can Start Searchin` for Leaks across all the System, Changin` the Rubber "O-Rings" and Testing it... But if you are Not Sure about your Subie`s A/C Electrical Circuit, then I Suggest you to Check that First: it Runs on Three Relays. Good Luck! Kind Regards.
  5. I Agree, my EA82 has moved my Family Flawlessly Across All Central America since 1985 and it Doesn`t Burn a Single Drop of Oil... (Just Blows a Li`l Amount thru the Heads` Hoses, Soon a Catch can will take Care of That) ...and after Twenty Four Years of Non-Stop Driving and over 270K Miles, I Won`t consider that Engine as "Bad" Design after All... Specially considering that our Roads Really Suck, Plenty of Potholes, Mud or Dust (Depending on Weather), Gravel, etc... and the Horrible Stop`n Go driving of the Main Cities` Traffic Jams across High Uphills & Downhills... also considering that the Average of Other Brands` cars here usually trend to need a Complete engine Overhaul at the Half of a Subie`s engine Life, or even Less. But EA82T are a completely different story and I have to agree with you about these engines that are very problematic. But Seems like everybody Forgot the EA81T ... I`ll Like to Read what do you Think about that Engine and if the EA81T are Better than the EA82T. Considering that the EA81T doesn`t have those Timin` Belts, I Believe that I Already know the Answer... Kind Regards.
  6. Yes, That is the Behaviour, but my Subie Feels More Powerful than Before... Is your Subie Carbed? ... if So, it Still have the Hitachi Carb? ... Those have a Vacuum Operated Secondary that Maybe is Improper Plugged Causing that "Delay" in your Subie. Kind Regards.
  7. it Still Sounds like Dieseling Somehow... Does the SPFI have a Gas supply Cutting Device like Hitachi Carbs do? ... if so, I Suggest to Check it, but the Problem I Believe that is Caused due to an Dirty Engine, Let me Explain: Some Dirty Deposits on the Combustion Chamber can become very Hot as Hot Spots that can Still Burn the Gas / Air Mixture for a While even with Engine Already Shut Off. Also Dirty Gasoline, maybe it have some Water Mixed... I Suggest a Deep Clean -SeaFoam?- of your Subie`s Engine intake, Fuel System... Maybe a Fuel Additive if you Notice Water on the Fuel.   8. Excuse me for the Short Posts, I Still Don`t have a Computer, mine is Damaged and this one -From a Neighbour- Trend to Shut itself Off in the Middle of the Use, due to OverHeatin` Problems. I Noticed that my Subie`s Engine Behaviour have Changed since that Timin` Belt Job: Now the Engine Runs Smoother than Ever, but it Also have a Different -Quieter- Sound, Let me Explain: Since the Weber Swap some Years Ago, my Subie`s Engine Sound became Very Louder, Specially when the Secondary was Open (Full Throttle) and it Was Very Fast to Accelerate from Low RPM`s engaged -for Example- in Second or Third Gear, but it was a Little "Slow" to Gain Speed at Higher RPM`s while at Full Throttle. Now the Engine Sound is Very Quiet, even at Full Throttle ... ... and Also my Subie has the Opposite Accelerating Behaviour: it Slowly Gain Speed at Low RPM`s but if the Car is Runnin -For Example in Fourth Gear- and around 65 MPH, if I give it Full Throttle, it Accelerates Super Faster from 65 MPH to around 100 MPH (I Had to Slow Down `cos it is Pretty Scary in our Crazy & Bad Roads to Run very Fast) So it now Likes Higher RPM`s, but the Loud Full Throttle Sound is Almost Gone in exchange for a More Deep and Clear Boxer Sound. Even it Sounds Just like a Hair Dryer at Low Speeds / Low to Mid RPM`s ... ... Anybody can Tell me Why it Has This Behaviour? I Believe that Maybe my Last Timin` Belt Job, the one done Bedore this new one, wasn`t all Right after all... Also the Subie Feels more Powerfull, I Tested it in a Highway that have Many Uphill and Downhill parts: Before the Timin` Belt Job, my Subie was Doin` one Uphill in Fourth Gear at 2,100 RPM`s without Gain more Speed, Now it Reaches the Same Point at 2,300 RPM`s and it Gain Speed during the Hill`s Climb, up to 2,600 RPM`s... As Aditional info: I ReJetted the Weber Carb with a Bigger Secondary Jet, as you can see Here: Could it have something to Do with the Increased Performance / Reduced Engine Noise? Well, I Miss my Weber`s Roar... Kind Regards.

Well, Then after Everything was in their Place, I Replaced the Rad, Fans and Belts, Filled up the Rad with Coolant... etc, and installed New Spark Plugs; after all That, I Tried to Start the Engine: ... Now... I AM HAPPY! (Remember the "Gorillaz" Song: Clint Eastwood?) Yes! ... it Started Right at the Very First Try, Purr like a Kitten! ... Then it Revvs Up Super Easily, Without any Problems it Reaches the Red Mark... Thanks God and your Kind Help.
  10. Absolutely Yes! My Country have been "Shaking" with minor EarthQuake`s Replicas... that along Non-Stopin` Rains, didn`t let me Work on my Subie earlier. But the Last Weekend I Worked on my Subie with Great Results!!! First after a Deep Clean up the Engine, I Started to set the Correct Ignition Timing, before install the New Timin` Belts, Tensioneers and Covers. (The Old Covers were Worn and in very Bad Shape after 24 Years and over 270K Miles of use so Far since 1985) This is a Picture of some Parts of my Subie`s New Timin` Kit: I Noticed that the Recent New Subaru Parts Comes in Plain White Boxes, while the Old Times New Parts came in Blue & White Printed with the Subaru Logo Boxes... Well, the economy... but That Doesn`t matter. Even some Parts came Without a Box! Well, I Started from Square One: First I did Set the "Upper Dead Point" (I Don`t Know the Right Translation for That, But I Hope that You`ll Understand) in Cyl one, then all across the Engine... I Noticed that my Subie`s engine Timin` was Very Bad, to the Point that I Needed to Take Off the Disty and Reset the Timing Again. After That, I did Set all the Timing Again, with the Only Help of the Great MilesFox Timin` Belts Procedure Manual, as Seen on the USRM; Thank you, MilesFox! Then I Installed the New Timin` Belts + Tensioneers & Covers, also Replaced the Worn 5/8" Hose at 90º (that was the Cause of the Water / Coolant Leak) along with New Clamps... I Really Dislike that Hose`s Place Design... but it Could be Worse: Recently I Helped someone to Change the Sparkplugs on his Mitsubishi Eclipse V6... Oh my God! ... You need to take off the Intake to do That! ... ... Now I Love even More my Subie`s Engine Design...
  11. Tom: I`m Glad to Know that you Already have the 2" Lift Kit from SJR... That`s Great! I Was About to Purchase one of those from SJR around three Years Ago, I Got the Money Then... but "Paypal" didn`t include my Li`l Country (Honduras) in their List back then... So I was absolutely Unable to Send the Money... :-\ ... I Just want to Suggest you to put the Crossmember`s Blocks, in Order to Keep the Axles Angle as Close as Stock is, Because the Greater angle will make your Subie to Eat very very Fast the Axles... unless you Plan to Drive it Off-Road only...   12. Today was a Non-Stop Rainin` Day, it didn`t let me do Anything on my Subie... I Hope that Tomorrow I`ll have a Chance. I`m Tired of Goin` on Bus to my Job... :-\ ... Does anybody had that "Missin` Teeth" Timin` Belt issue? I`ll Like to Know if their Subies got that Same Behaviour... Kind Regards.

  15. No, I Run the EA82 with its covers on, but due to this problems, I am thinking on running them Coverless, because I am sure that if it were Coverless, I would found the cause much earlier. The Pictures that you Saw, are the Actual Look of my Subie's Engine bay, Because I am Working on it Now...   16. Yes, Some Swaps like That had been Done, but I See that the People that Choose to make from a 4WD subie, just 2WD; do Preffer to Switch to a RWD Config instead of FWD. For Example, in my Country That is Widely done in Leones and Loyales, look Carefully at this Picture I Took of a Local Loyale Sedan: That`s a Just 2WD one but RWD ... I Like the Idea of get Rid of those FWD Axles... ...Forever. All that GD Said is Absolutely True, But Those: 2WD Brats did Came here to Latin America Too... Not Only Europe. Good Luck! Kind Regards.

Today I Found the culprit of my EA82 engine problems: One of the Timing Belts -the one at the Driver's Side, Nearby the Distributor- has Three Missing Teeth! ... ... at Different Belt's Places, also another tooth is about to Fall off... What do you Think About that? I'll share photos here as Soon as I Can. I Work in my Subie, just the Tiny Spare Time that Remain after my Job and to be with my Family, that is the reason Why to find out the cause of the problem, Took me too much Time, Just a Little Step every Day's Night ... ...   21. That is a Very Beautiful Lookin` Wagon for Sure! ... Not a Ricer... Very Clean Job. So if you Want to improve your Subie, the Old "EJ it" Advice is the Very Best of All if you Want Performance; Others Will Suggest to "Lift it" if you want it for Off-Roading: Both are Nice Upgrades, Depending on your Needs. Both Needs Time & Effort, They`re Not just "Rice" Things. Here you can Find Lots of Info & Pics of Both Options, Just use the Great "Search" Feature. As I wrote above, originally I was thinking that maybe the Cause for the problems, was a Dirty Carburetor, so I Taked out the Weber and Deeply Cleansed it, see: I Figured a Way to Connect the PCV Valve Straight to the Weber Carb's Air Filter Box: I Obtained a 90º Adaptor, that Matched exactly the Thread in the intake Manifold: I Made a Straight Adaptor to Use a Single 5/8" Hose Directly, from the PCV Valve to the Weber Carb's Air Filter Box, see: Now my Weber Setup Looks like this: So Straight & Clean! Then I used a New Air Filter Element made by E.M.P.I. So, Why my Just Cleansed Weber, Keeps Blackening the Sparkplugs? How about the Rough idle & Hard Acceleration?
