removed air intake silencer
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to erik litchy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Could you tell what model / Year of Subie is that? You Mean like a Hair Dryer, isn`t it? ... -
Well... I Didn`t understood the "Drain" Idea too... Could you Explain it, Please? That issue remembers me that when I Was Child, our ' 69 Mercury started to "Play" with the Wipers too, when No Key was on the car! ... ... I Used to Play on it as "Driving" in the Garage (Just my imagination) but the Wipers Started to move Like This: Three inches up and Stop for a While, then the Same again and Again... until they Reached the Top, they came down fully path to their Base... I Asked Dad about that, he Didn`t believed me, but then it Started Again and Let me Show it to my Dad! ... He Told me Something like "You Pushed the intermitent Parking Lights button on and seems like that has Something to do with the Wipers..." :-\ The Problem solved for itself and never came back Again! Good Luck!

Oops! ... I Did it Again! ;)

Yes... You`re Right! But both my Subies has Upgraded Coil Springs: The Rear ones on my Subies came from an Honda`s Front ones; while the Front ones on my Subies Came from a Ford Tempo`s Front ones. They are Thicker and has More Turns... I Guess that my Subie`s Cargo area was Heavily Loaded... Kind Regards. -
(Nothing to do with Britney Spears` Song) Let me Tell you that I Have Broke that Rear Strut... Again! Do you Remember this Thread?: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73725 This Time I Was Going with my Family and my Subie Fully Loaded, not High Speed but Around 55 MPH ... The Last Storms Damaged some Roads, so the Roads` Authority built a Huge Speed Bump to make the Traffic to Slow Down before reachin` the Damaged Areas... I Never saw it and it hasn`t any Signal nor Paint yet... so you could Imagine the Huge Impact for the Struts... I Don`t know why the Rear Struts got more Damage than the Front ones on the Same impact... But everything Else is just Fine. Kind Regards.

My 1986 Subaru Leone GL Wagon!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Dodge Aries K's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... Just for Share information that might help to Understand: Subaru did Launched the "Loyale" Body in Year 1982 (Japan Only, Then Rest of the World in 1985) as Far as I Know; and they Offered Different Drivetrains for it, according to the Markets... For Example: Here those "Loyale" Bodied Subies, came with as Little as 1.3L Engine FWD Sedans, then 1.6L Engine and 1.8L (Usually EA81) and Just the "Luxury" models got the 1.8L EA82 and EA82T... Here the Dealer Sold the GL Basically in Two Main Configs: the GL with "Power Everything" Was Just 2WD and the GL with "Manual Everything" Was 4WD... Both at the Same Price! ... ... I Don`t Know Why, but I Believe that People at Subaru did their Market Research, maybe they found that the 4WD ones where used mainly for Rough Driving in Very Bad Road Conditions, while the Luxury ones where used just for City Driving... But Customers were able to Choose their Own Config Too: They was Able to Choose Power Steering, A/C, etc... Money is the Key... So your Subie Seems to be Like a "Basic" GL ... Just like the ones for our Latin American Market ... as the EA81 Engined Loyale that GD Saw, those are Common Here, even EA71 and some EA63... Kind Regards. -
What to do with an RX?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to wentz912's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe they Got the Same Version we got here in Latin America (and Aussie along with other non USA Markets I Guess): with Carb & Disty... Reliable and Simplier. -
Well... Very Long Time Ago, I Found a Website that said the Owner Swapped a VW Beetle 1.6L Air Cooled Boxer engine in his old Subie... Don`t know Further Details. Does Anyone? Kind Regards.

Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to wentz912's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That Sounds Expensive... I`ll Love to See Pictures of that, must be Very Nice! Ha, Ha! ... ... Funny! Well... I Believe that Swap a Bigger Turbo in a EA82T is like Kill the Engine, due to their Head Gaskets Issues... I Suggest to Change the Old one with a Good Workin` Used one from another EA82. if you Buy that Subie, Could you post Pics of it here? Kind Regards. -
EA82 Not Firing
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to SubaruJawn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I Agree, also I want to Suggest that when you are Sure that everything is Lined and the Engine Still Doesn`t Fire: Move the Timing on the Disty to Around +/- 20º and Try Again. I Believe that you tried to Start it at 0º Good Luck! Kind Regards. -
hood scoop pics.
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to killshot_kustom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That Really is a Surprise! ... I Didn`t expected those Twin Scoops... it is Not just a Critisism, but Those Twin Scoops can make your Engine Runnin` Dirtier and maybe Rain can be Swallowed by the Carb, also can moisture the Disty`s cap... Have you Thought about it? Kind Regards! -
Poor Quality Pic, but Funny: Taken by my Wife with her Cellphone... ... ... I Was Trying to Replace a Leakin' Exhaust O-Ring, the one in the Coupler just Behind the Muffler. Thanx!

AC compressor replacement ?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to rcatala's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Let me Tell you, Respectfully: Older Subies` Air Conditioner Systems aren`t Designed to use R134a ... They use Freon R12, which is Scarse in some Countries due to environmental regulations. But I Believe that those R12 Systems can Run R134a with a Special retrofitting Kit. Kind Regards. -
Seems Like Almost All Hitachi Carbs has that Behaviour when they become Old... So you have made a Good Decision. Fuel Injection could be done too, but that is a Little more complicated... I Have a Thread Full of Pictures, Procedures and Ideas about a Weber Swap on a EA82 ... it Might Help you. To Reach it, just Click in my Avatar, in my "Public Profile" is a List of my Main Writeups, there is the Weber one. Kind Regards, Good Luck!

More information about your Subie will Help... (Model, Year, Engine, etc.) Kind Regards.
-
Well... I have had that Feelin` Too, but then I just take a Shower, Relax and Back to Square one again! ... Until Solved... Maybe Next day. I Believe that GD Already posted the Better Start Point of All: At the Fuses Box and you`ll Need a Tester Hooked between one Battery Terminal and its Wire. Also, Since the Battery Drain Started with the Engine Swap, I would Start Searchin` Between the Engine Wires at the Engine`s Bay ... do you Remember the Gasoline Cutoff Electric Valve (A.K.A: Anti Dieseling) that the Original Hitachi Carb Had? ... Well maybe their Wires are Grounding Somewhere loose after the Weber Swap... But I Believe that the Strongest Power Draining Point should be Around the Headlamps` Wires... so I Suggest you to Start There. Good Luck! Kind Regards.
