Towing a Subaru
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Pontiac6KSTEAWD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I`m not Sure about the Weight, but I Kindly Suggest to Avoid the Use of a Tribeca for Towing such car in a Long Distance; Those old Subies are Heavy Weighted... The Automatic Turbo GL that you Want is not Roadworthy? ... Maybe you can Fix the Problems it may have, enough to make it go for itself on the Road. Kind Regards. -

I Forgot to Say that Those Steel Rims with the Center Caps looks identical to my EA82 Wagon`s Original ones. The Electric fan should come on in two situations: When Temperature Raises above the Half Gauge, or when you Switch "ON" the A/C. If I own one like that, I`ll keep it Stock but I Suggest to Paint the Bumpers with the Same Body Colour, but that is my Idea, maybe you Like `em Black. As I Said: I Never saw a DL Level XT Before, your Subie is Special, now is interesting that it Didn`t came with Carburetor... That`s Because the Year Model. Kind Regards. -

Check engine light??
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to subystomper's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You Already have the Answer here: Because now the ECU Fail to receive their Signal... So it "Thinks" that there are some Troubles... I Just had the Same Behaviour in my Weberized EA82 Wagon (but before the Swap, `cos I did removed those before) I Just Didn`t pay attention to that Light and after some Time the Mini Bulb Just burnt out itself, so No more "ECS" Light anymore: it is an "Automatic Easy Fix" Since the Limitations of the ECU, that won`t give any Problems... Just the Light, that in some Models Says ECS while in others says Check Engine... but it is just the Same. Kind Regards. -

Beautiful XT! ... ... I Believe that is the First one I See Without Power Steerin` nor Power Windows; but that means Less Thing to Fix in the Future! ... ... it Looks Very Clean and Healthy! Thank you for Sharing your Pictures. Kind Regards. -

I need Horn Help, 87 GL SW
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Jofus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Absolutely No. You just need to Remove the Turn Signal Lights, Then Search for Two Bolts each side, Hidden inside the Engine`s Bay; in front of each Head`s Cover (Look for two Holes each side) You must Unscrew Both Bolts each side, I Don`t Remember clearly but I Think those are Nº 14. I Have a Thread about Bumper Reconstruction, Just Click on my Avatar and in my "Public Profile" You`ll Find a List of my Writeups, look for the one named "Bring Back the Smile to a Loyale" ... ... it is Plenty of Pics. Hope this can Help. Yes, I Replaced Them in Both my Subies, but that was due to the Ugly Sound the Stock ones gave... Just like All Japanese Cars` Horns: Pathetic! I Swapped Bosch Horns in Both my Wagons: http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcHorn1.asp?c=2&d=1 Never go Back! -

1988 Gl what engine did it have?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Markuss's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it should Came with EA82 in USA... Here it Came with EA81 Too, EA82 were an Option. I Really Don`t Believe an EA81 to be Horrible there, Because the Power Difference isn`t too Big, Also it could be a Bolt On to the Gearbox... But an EA81T... ? How is the `88 GL Engine? ... if it is Dead and your EA81 is Good, Maybe it Worth Try. Good Luck! -
EA82`s intake Manyfolds have Water Passages, so I Really Believe that instead of Mod one, is Better Idea to make a Custom intake; But the Head`s inlets will Remain the Same... ...Unless you have another EA82 with the Spider intake... Kind Regards.
-
Well... Not a Properly Called Lift, but Since I Swapped All the Spring Coils (Front with Ford Tempo`s Front ones and Rear with Honda`s Front ones) my EA82 Wagon sits around 2" Higher... Remember that you Can Not Lift too much it Without a Real Lifting Kit, Because the Constant Velocity Joints Angle will Kill Axles around 10X Faster. Kind Regards.

Ac Question
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Let me Explain: Usually EA82 Subies came with Hitachi A/C Compressor, which comes Between the Power Steerin` Pump and the Alternator, but there was an Option that came with Panasonic A/C Compressor, which comes in the Place where the Others Has the Alternator. As Far as I Know, Both came Stock like That... Kind Regards. -
Maybe it isn`t Running too Rich, Did you Notice Black Fumes when you Press the Gas Pedal? ... if So it is Rich, but if not: it Could be an Open Hose from the Gas Tank, the one that let it "Breathe"... (I Don`t know its name in English, but I Hope that You`ll Understand) ...That Hose comes from the Tank to the Engine`s Room... That could be the cause of the Smell, Also a Leaking Carb could be too. is its Base with Red Varnish? Dirty Carb + Dirty Spark Plugs + Dirty Air Filter Element can make any car to Run Rich... The Leakin` Exhaust Fumes goin` inside the Cab... So I Suggest to Check That First. it is Important to Verify if Really your Subie Blows Black Fumes when you Press the Gas Pedal... A Weber Carb is Really Great for Those EA Engines, but You must be Sure that You won`t have Troubles due to Emissions` Laws. Good Luck!

JDM engine hacked
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Major Lazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I Suggest you to Ask the Sellers About it, Maybe They Sold you the Wrong Engine, or Maybe they can Give you Another... Worth Call `em. Could you Post Pics of That? ... Maybe we can Figure out the Better Way to fix that if the Sellers Doesn`t do Anything... (but Loose Customers with that Behaviour). A Link to their Website will Help Too... to Avoid them! Holy Cow! ... I Couldn`t Imagine That Scene! -
Gravity Feed Carb. . . gas to engine
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to what huh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That will Work only if the Gas Tank & Lines are Vacuum / Presurized, but it Certainly will make your Subie Very Unsafe... ...or I Can`t Figure out how to Hold a Can of Fuel Over the Engine while Driving... I`ve Tried Feed the Carb with a Can but only for Testing Fuel System Purposes, only for a While... -
How Can i identify a Dead spot.
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it Could be Something as Simple as a Vacuum Leak or Dirty Fuel Injectors... But I Don`t Know the English Name for That Behaviour... My `69 Mercury got That Problem but got Worse with Time, and I Fixed that after many Time of Searching the Cause and Trying many Things... it was a Failing PCV Valve that had a Vacuum Leak... Maybe that Idea can Help you. Kind Regards. -
Welcome! This Issue I am 99% Sure is Related to the Ignition Switch having some False Contact, internal Failure... Let me Explain: if Everything Works fine Before Starting the Engine, when the Key is in "ON" but Refuses to Work when you Already Started the Engine, I Do Believe that the Ignition Switch`s Return Spring for "Start" is Throwing the Key too Loose from the "ON" Position`s Electric Contact, so the Car Runs but there are No Power on the Circuits... it also Might Lead to the Transmission Problems... Due to Lack of Electric Communication; even the Alternator could be not Sending it`s Power Back to the Battery while the Key Does Not Hold the "ON" Position`s electric Contact, even with the Key in "ON" and the Engine is Running. I Suggest you to Try with Another ignition Switch, you may obtain a Good Workin` one at a Junk Yard and just Plug it instead of your Subie`s Original one... Worth Try! If that`s Not the Answer, maybe someone did Played with the Wiring... is the Radiator`s Electric Fan Re-Wired to Switch "ON" Right with the Ignition, Bypassing the Thermo-Switch? if So, it is a Good Point to Check Too... After the Ignition Key itself. Post Pics of your Subie as Long as you Can! ... ... Good Luck! Kind Regards.

Does the ea82 use this float needle?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to ferox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thank you for your Kind Answer! ... So if That`s a Bolt-on, Maybe Using the Adaptor Plates for the EA Engines to Fit a Weber Carb can be Done in a Justy, isn`t it? Maybe Properly Jetted a Weber Carb can make the Justy Engine to Run Better... Just an Idea. -
More power for my 84 without an engine swap?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to soothedlife's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
As GD Said, Sub4 and Other Companies got the EA81 to Push out More than 200 HP, but the Rally Version of the EA82 Came Stock at 190 HP! As Seen in This Magazine Scans: But That for Sure wasn`t intended for everyday Driving... Kind Regards. -
Thanks God You`re Allright! I Have Been in Similar Situations but not in Pavemented Road, Just in Gravel Roads; a Nissan Frontier Double Cab Came Spinning to My Subie in a Curve! ... I was Drivin` Slowly so I Stopped Before it can Hit me. Those are Very Scary Situations! ... The Windshield Damage is Nothing, You are Fine and That`s the Important. Kind Regards.

92 Loyale Moral support Needed
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to squatty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So Sad your Subie`s Hit, but at Least the Other Car`s Driver will Pay for the Damage. I Agree... ...Yes, but if you want to Straight that Area, you can do as Gloyale Said. Sometimes a Heavy Rubber Hammer might Help too... in my Country, if you Leave any Car Parked Always in the Same Spot, other Drivers may think of it as Ornament and here usually they are the "Hit-and-Go" Kind... You`ll end with an "UFO" Shaped car: Round Corners!
