  1. Nice Rides!!! You can see mines here: http://www.cardomain.com/id/jeszek Kind Regards!
  2. Thank you for your Kind Words! Yes, I Use the "Indian Head" Gasket Shellac Compound, I Used it in my Weber Swap and in another Works I`ve done in other cars, each time with Great Results. First I Covered Both sides of each Gasket with a thin coat of Shellac, then repeated another time to give `em a second coat... both thin coats. I Didn`t let it Dry too Much... I Preffer to install everythin` when the Shellac is still Fresh... did not wait too much... Think around Two Minutes or So... when I finished spreadin` the Shellac, did the Gasket`s install... No Problem. I only spreaded the Shellac on the Gaskets, not on the Plates. Also I want to tell you that when I Did my Weber Swap, I did not sealed the Tiny Coolant Hole at the intake Manyfold`s Carb Base... so Shellac in Gaskets are Performing Great! I Hope this can Help you. Kind Regards! JesZeK
  3. I have Solved that Problem with Vacuum Leaks between the two pieces Adaptor, Let me Explain: First you need to Know that the Kit K-731 Redline-Weber for EA82`s Comes with a two piece Adaptor Plate that has two Design flaws: First: The Bolt`s Thread at the intake Manyfold comes in Nº 10 Milimetric (Around 1/4" ... I explain here in Equivalent measurement for easier understanding) and the Kit has the base plate that goes to the intake, Designed to be Held by Thicker Bolts Nº 12 Milimetric (Around 5/16") Which their heads fits Perfectly in the Cone shaped holes at the Base of the Plate, filing them, sealing and Holding Stronger... but those Nº 12 Bolts Don`t fit the thinner intake`s threads... The kit also comes with the Thinner Bolts Nº 10 that fits the intake`s threads but their Heads Don`t fill the Cone Holes in the Adator Plate (Barely reaches to fill the Half) and Holds it Loose... So: if you used the Thinner Bolts that Fits the intake`s Threads, they don`t hold Good and don`t seal Good... The Solution: I Suggest you to do what I Did: I Sent my Subie`s intake to a Machine Shop, along with one of the Thicker Nº 12 Bolts, so they rethreaded the Intake`s Threads from 10M to 12M ( 1/4" to 5/16" ) Also I sked them to make Flat the intake`s Base. So I Suggest you to do that too. You`ll Find my explanation step by step, plenty of Pictures and ideas in a Writeup I Did, at the USRM. To reach a list of my Writeups, click on my avatar, and scroll down in my "Public Profile" Page. Also: Use Shellac Between the Gaskets... Great Sealin` Results and its gasoline safe! See: Permatex® Indian Head® Gasket Shellac Compound The Second Design Problem: in EA82`s with Power Steerin` Option, the Choke hits the Power Steerin` Pump, but that is not your Problem, I Guess... Yes! ... the Kit K-731 with two piece Adaptor Plates are just for EA82`s Only.
  4. if it Really Came Stock from a '79 Brat, maybe it means that People at Subaru was Thinkin` about to put on the Market the Diesel EA81D Engine that was just under Development... Could it Be? Could you post Pics of that Here? ... Thanx!
  5. I Like the Leone (EA81) Look, but... ...I am Partial to Loyale (EA82) Wagons Look too!
  6. My Subies Have the Rear Springs from Honda`s Front ones, not 100% Sure but I Believe they came from an 89 Accord. I took one of my Subies Original Springs and went Searchin` at a Local Junk Yard untill I Found them, back in mid 1990`s Decade... They have the same measurement but Thicker -so Stronger- and I Believe they have more Turns than the Subie ones. Also both my Subies got Front Springs from Ford Tempo`s front ones... they have the same Measurement but two more Turns. I Suggest you to take one of your Subie`s Springs to a Junk Yard and Search for the Right ones by Comparison. Good Luck!
  7. Welcome! Check for Loosen / Unplugged Vacuum Lines, might be some of the Vacuum Hoses could be Cracked due to Age, if so I Suggest to Replace them. Also it could be a Stickin` Gas Cable... to test it, when your Subie`s Idle RPM`s stay High, Try to Pull Back the Accelerator Cable, if it Reset the Idle Speed back again to Under 1,000 That is the Problem. Sometimes it Fixes with some Penetrating Oil Sprayed down the Cable Plus installing another Return Spring in the Carb; other times the Cable itself could be Damaged and shall be Changed; Test it by Hand. The Third Option is the Choke... it might be getting too Loose and can Stick open when your subie Already is Warm... Check it just by Seeing its Position after Warm up, try to get it Back manually and see if that Helps. At Last: a Clogged Air Filter could bring Higher Warm RPM`s too... Hope this can Help. Kind Regards.
  8. To Know which one you Have, Read it... it should say, but I Suggest you to Post Pics of it here, so we can Help you in a Better Way. There are some Good Threads about how to Swap a Weber Carb in a Subie, I Wrote one Plenty of Pics & Ideas... Click on my Avatar to Reach my "Public Profile" Page, there is a List of some of my Writeups. I Hope that can Help you. Kind Regards & Good Luck!
  9. I Found another one... (but I Wasn`t Searchin` for) ...The Hitachi Carburetors. The Site says: 2bbl carburetor found on EA71, EA81, and 85-87 EA82 Not Only Loyales Got `em untill 1994, Legacies Came Here with Hitachi Carbs from year 1989 to 1993 in EJ18 Engines. That`s for our Latin American Market, same as Asian. Kind Regards!
  10. Well... Welcome! Try to Upload here Pictures of your Subie. if it is a New Ride for You, I Suggest you to Ask to the Previous Owner the Date / Mileage when Timin` Belts was Changed, if he / She Doesn`t Know, then you must Change `em along their Tensioneers` Ball Bearings. Also Change all the Fluids: Engine Oil, Gearbox Oil, Radiator Coolant, Poweer Steerin` and Brakes... Choose the Better you can. Good Luck!
  11. EA82`s are Non-interference Engines! ... Thanks God!!! ... so Valves Must be O.K.! Maybe you can Obtain a Cheaper Timin` Belts Kit at e-bay or Something Alike, and then I Suggest you to do the Timin` Belts` Job by Yourself, it is not Too Hard to Do, here You`ll find Great Write ups with Pictures of the Procedure (Look at the USRM) and you can Save some Money! Kind Regards & Good Luck!
  12. The inner CV Joint, Closest to the Tranny... Please Excuse my English... sometimes I`m Lost in Translation. Kind Regards & Good Luck!
  13. I Was Almost Sure that a Clogged Exhaust was the Cause... Excuse me if my Suggestion Didn`t Work; I just Really Wanted to Help you. Just for info: my EA82`s 5/8" Hoses from Each Head, seems like both Works exactly the Same: Both Breathe / Blow Air, depending on Acceleration. I Do not Believe That, `cos is the Engine who Actual Suck Thru the Carb, not the Carb Pushing anything... (Turbo`s are Another Story) Also I Believe that a Closed EGR have Nothing to do with that Situation. I Understand That `cos I have been in Such Situations... but Let me Tell you that Maybe you can Think about to do another Engine Swap in your Subie, but with an EA81 instead the EA71. But Don`t Give Up! ... Maybe there is an Easy Fix Hidden Somewhere, it Could be Something that we Haven`t think about Yet... Photos could Help a Lot... Could you Post some Pics of your Engine`s hoses Config? Maybe it is a Fool Suggestion, but Here it Goes: if there are Pressure Build Up related to the PCV & Hoses from each Head... Why don`t you leave all the Hoses Open with just an Air Filter in Each one?... (Just to Prevent problems like the Seals from Pop Out) ...While the Proper Fix is Reached. Kind Regards!
  14. Let me Tell you that the inner Coupler, the one who attach the Constant Velocity Joints to the Gearbox`s Differential, are Almost the Same like the ones at the Other End: The Wheels. They Spin but They Don`t Turn, Just Go Up and Down with the Wheels and they have the same Six Big Balls Bearing inside. Due to its Age / Use \ Runnin` Without Grease, They Makes the Same Bad Axle Noise when They`re Worn... So I Suggest you to Check them Too! Kind Regards!
  15. Thank you for your Kind Replies and Pics! I`ve done a Different connection on my Weberized EA82... I Hooked Both Heads together with a New 5/8" Hose to a "T" and the Opening from the "T" goes to the Air filter`s Box. The PCV is Alone with its Own 5/8" Air Filter. I`ve done it Because the Oil Blown by the Heads was being Swallowed by the PCV Valve... I`ve had No Problems with that Connection but I Know that since the PCV don`t Breathe the Gases and Fumes from the Heads, there should be some sort of Toxics in the Oil... I Try to Change my Subie`s Oil every 4,000 Miles...
  16. I Do Not Agree... Specially After Seeing Too Many Tercels with Worn Engines that trend to Fail prematurely with very Low Mileage / Years Old; also Seeing Many Recent models of Corona & Carina with easy bursting Plastic Radiators, and Too Many Tacomas with Easy Broken Steering Parts... Those are very Common Problems for Toyota, or at least here... Ha Ha! ... Blue Oval featurin` Bluetooth! But they have some Great Cars, like the Ranger, F150 or the WRC Focus. Excuse me, Please: Could I Ask What is the Meanin` of that Word ?
  17. Excuse me, please if I Ask a Dumb Question, but I Can not see Clearly it in the Picture, so I`ll Ask: Now with that new Route, Both Heads Connect Together But with Two "T" Connections, at point A and B of your Picture. So, Where Does the PCV Connects? ... At Point B? ... Then the Opening from Point A is Connected to Point C, isn`t it?
  18. Real Clean Lookin` and Beautiful Swap! ... Thank you for Posting Pics!
  19. Maybe you`ll Like to See this Thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95473 it is not Exactly a Report, but a Original Brochure
  20. Well... it depends on the Country Market... Maybe it vary in the USA from one State to Another... Here in my Country the 1.8 is Still available in Basic Legacies while the 1.5L and 1.6L are in the Basic imprezas... 2.5 is just an Option, along with 2.2 and 2.0
  21. Me Neither, maybe that Subaru was Damaged, you know... a Broken Axle, stuck brakes... etc... as I Said: is Easy to Blame a Car when is the Owner`s Fault. Yes, That`s True. I know that Subarus, like other car Brands aren`t Perfect, but in Subarus That`s one of their Great Parts, because they are like Legos we Always are trying to find our personal definition of "Perfection" on our Subies, you know, someones Swap Engines, Gearboxes, etc... others love to Lift Them while others love to Lower them, etc ... I Believe that could not be Easy to do in other Car`s Brands, for example a Minivan. When the USMB Servers went Down, I Signed in Nasioc and after two or three Posts, they Really make me Feel Too Sad, when called us "The USMB Refugees" ... :-\ ... Well... let me Tell you that, as GD said: I Suggest you to Avoid to use Subaru Comparisons in Other Car Brand`s Forums... That "Bad Feeling" Happened to me in a Mercury Forums, when I Posted about I Need an Electronic Distribuitor for my 1969 Comet, and I said Something like "Some of my Subaru Friends with Old Point Distys, swapped `em with Electronic Pointless ones in their Subies with Great Results... " that was enough to Start...
  22. it is because it says http:// twice, this is the Workin` Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Subaru_engines
  23. I have a Friend who owns an Audi A4 which she Never Changed the Timin` Belt... Then one Day it broke while Driving, so a Tow Truck took her car to her Mechanic`s repair Shop... All the Valves got Bent plus the Valve`s Lever rotor (I don`t know its English Name, but I Hope You`ll Understand) along to head`s damage too, all with serious Scratches to the Cylinders & Pistons... ...Now That`s Serious interference Engine! ... Such a Nightmare! I Wish there could be some way to Swap Gears in the Place of Belts to do the Timin` Job...
