  1. Well... I do preffer to unscrew & Drop the Exhaust Pipe right from the "Y" pipe, so you can check from there in two directions: First check the Flow from behind the "Y" to the Muffler`s out, then check the "Y" itself for bad done Cuttin` / Weldin` job (You said the Exhaust pipes aren`t Original, they`re a Shop work and maybe they made a Mistake there, one Head`s exhaust can be bad routed into the "Y" causing backpressure) and you can check the Flow from engine to the "Y" pipe... I Don`t Suggest you to Start the Engine without the Head`s Out Pipes to the "Y" because if you let engine to Warm, the exhaust gas can get very Hot and Melt the Axles` Boots... unless you just try it for short time to measure the Engine`s Pressure... Be Careful; exhaust can get Very Hot... I Hope this can Help, Good Luck!
  2. is Normal to the Human Beings to Fear those Things that They Don`t Know... in Other Words, People who Drives Straight Cyls Engined Cars with almost nothing Mechanical Knowledge (sometimes even the Basics) and Driving Mini Vans ... ... Trend to Fear a Japanese Boxer Engined Car... (those are like Water and Oil, Don`t Mix) I don`t want to offend anyone, but our Local Mechanics has the Same Behaviour about Subies... is Easy to Damage Something while trying to fix it without the Right Knowledge, and then Blame the Damaged Thing ... :-\...
  3. The Same Applies for the Air Conditioneer... Why do you Want to Swap an EA82 with an EA81? ... if I Take out my EA82 Engine, I will Swap there an EJ Engine for Sure... Kind Regards!
  4. Look for the Part that Says: "Here are all the technical articles you are looking for, including parts breakdown diagrams" Here: http://www.webercarburetors.com/ That`s the Place where I Obtained the "Nice Shiny New One" in the Kit K-731 for my EA82, some time Ago... Good Luck!
  5. I Didn`t hear about that Before... ...What is That? ... Could you Post Pics? Let me tell you that if the Same Problem was in Previous Engine, and it came in the newly Swapped Engine, I Believe that the Source Could be in the Car, not in the Engine: a Clogged Exhaust. I Suggest to Check if Exhaust has Restrictions... Kind Regards.
  6. May I Respectfully Correct you? the Fusible Link`s Black Box is Near the Battery, but not Mounted on the Washer Bottle, it is Mounted on the Coolant Overfill Plastic Tank. The Washer Bottle is Located inside the Passenger`s Side front Fender. Kind Regards!
  7. I`ll Love to Read about the experience of using Gunk`s Valve Medic on EA82`s ... Will that really Clean the Valve`s Lifters?
  8. Thank you for the Answer' date=' it Makes your Subie to Look more interesting for Sure[i']! ...[/i] Do you want to Paint it in Other Colour, like Light Metallic Grey -Chrome Alike- for Example?
  9. Well... I Agree, at least it is the situation here in my Country. I`ve NEVER retentioned the timin` Belts in my Subies... Since 1985 my EA82 had them to Last Around three Years or around 60,000 Miles so Far... and the Drivin` Conditions here are too Hard, but due to this Thread`s Ideas, I`ll Check them next time I Change the Oil to see if they`re Properly Adjusted. Kind Regards.
  10. I Really Don`t know much about Holley Carbs, but I Think that if it Idles and then Dies, maybe -Just Maybe- it could have an Stickin` Float Level; Also it could be caused by improper Air Flow by the Possibility of Dirt gettin` inside the Jets... Even if they`re Just Cleaned, maybe some Dirt went inside from Hidden Spaces / Old Gas inlet Hose... You can Spray Carb Cleaner there... Good Luck!
  11. Could I Ask What Exactly is the Purpose of that? ... You want to Haul Something Special or is Just Cosmetic?
  12. Never use Stop Leak Additives on Coolin` System... my experience tell they do more Damage than before of pouring them.
  13. Thank you for Posting those Nice Pics! ... the Animated one is Awesome!!! I Believe Normal Struts are Better than Pneumatic ones, should give you a Better Ride, but You`ll Swap the Front ones too, isn`t it? ... if the Pneumatic system is Failing, it could be Dangerous. Why you want to go EJ with this? ... it Looks very Nice & Clean. Kind Regards.
  14. ...or you can Swap there Bosch Standard Relays! ... I have a Writeup about that, with Pics... to find it, click on my Avatar and you`ll Reach my "Public Profile" where I Posted a List of my Writeups... Hope this can Help you. Good Luck!
  15. Welcome Aboard! First let me Tell you that More Details about your Subie will Help a Lot: Which Model, Year, Situation Details, etc... and Pictures! Since you Posted at Older Gen Forums, I Guess it could be a Loyale; it is Weird that Both Lights are Gone at the Same Time... so if the Dashboard`s Lights went Dim, it must be a Relay issue; I Suggest to Check the Headlights` Relays for a Loosen Plug Connection or Worn Relays. They`re Located under the Dash, Above the Fusible Box (You should unscrew that Fusible box to Reach them) if the Dashboard`s Lights are O.K. ... You must Check the Fusible Links, those are Located near the Battery, in a Black Box attached to the Coolant`s Overfill Tank. Hope this can Help. Kind Regards.
  16. http://www.dynodemon.co.uk/home.php?/Home ...England Subaru Specs may Vary...
  17. Yes! ... Thank you for Sharing your Pics... but ...Don`t you have Pics of the Process with the Pumps?
  18. I Use just 20W-50 in Both my Subies and my `69 Mercury Comet, Here there are no Snow... I Believe the Climate of your Area should be Close alike our Climate Here. Why?
  19. I Agree! ... my Dad Purchased the EA82 Wagon new, back in 1985 (I was Child then) and it has been Driven since then as Everyday driver in our Bad Roads plenty of Huge Pot holes and Off Roads; Now with around 260,000 Miles it Still Haul rump roast and Perform even Better than it was New! ... ... in Part due to the Changes I`ve done to it, like the Great Weber Carb, the free flow Exhaust and many many other Li`l Changes... Being mine since many Years Ago, I Drove it across Almost All Central America many times, usually Heavy Loaded... and Believe me or Not: the More it Travels, the Better it Feels and Performs. Those Subies Love Long Travels ... ... But I Usually Drive it Everyday Basically from Home-Work-Home in a Horrible Run / Stop \ Run Situation that can Kill fast any other Car. I Believe that The Only bad thing they have (or that is my Idea about EA82`s) is... Timing Belts! ... You Forget to say Timin` Belts! :-\ if the Previous Owner Does not Know the Time or Miles when it was last Changed, I Suggest you to Change Both plus their Tensioneers` Ball Bearings. The only Reason my Subie left me in the Middle of Nowhere around Midnight with the Whole Family, was a Broken Timing Belt. They was New, just two months Old, but I didn`t Replaced the Tensioneers Bearings and one of them Stopped, making the Belt`s Back to Rub against it and the Heat & Friction ripped it... So if you get that Subie, Change the Timing Belts + the Tensioneers`s Bearings. ( and Don`t Forget to Post Pics! ) Edit: I Forget to say that the EA82`s are "Non-interference" Engines, so if a Timin` Belt Brokes, the engine just Shut Off without any Damage... Thanks God! Kind Regards. Good Luck!
  20. What issues do you Have with your Subie? ... (I Don`t want to Hijack the Thread and I`m not trying to be some sort of "Know it All" kind of person, but I Always Try to do my Best Helping with Ideas that Usually comes from my Experience) Maybe I can give you some Ideas... The Clogged Cat gave me Overheating and Weak Engine Problems, back in the Early 1990`s ... the more Clogged one was the Hidden cat Filter inside the "Y" Pipe... I Removed that, plus the Cathalytic and the Muffler, now my Subie has an Empty Box as Muffler, filled with industrial Fiberglass inside (Heat & Sound isolator) to prevent the Ugly "Fart Can" Sound. ... ... Since That, the Subie Runs Smooth, Cool and with more Powerful Feelin`
  21. Welcome Aboard! Let me Tell you that your Story is Exactly the Same that Happened to my EA82 Wagon, Anything done to Try to fix it, just let it Run Smooth for a While... and then the Problem started Again and Again and Again... But I Have an Idea: I am Almost Sure that your Brat have Problems with the Carburetor... Those Hitachi (Craptachi) Carbs aren`t easy to Rebuild with a Kit... I Tried with an Aftermarket Kit, and then I Took my Craptachi to the Dealer with an Original Subaru Rebuild Kit and it only Lasted fine for about Three Days... The Solution I Found is Also a Great Improvement for Those EA Subaru Engines: Swap the Craptachi Carb, for a Weber Carb. The Weber Carburetor, 32/36 is -I Believe- The Greatest Thing that Could Happens to a Subaru EA Carbureted engine, Let me Explain: Webers are Bigger and their Secondary Stage is Mechanically Powered so you Control the Total Engine Power and Acceleration with the Gas Pedal, (not like the Vacuum Activated secondary as the Hitachi`s are) Webers Also are very Simple, even to Adjust them, They Give more Low end Torque too, and depending on your Way of Driving, can use the Same Gasoline for the Same Kilometers, or even Better. If you have a more Aggresive Driving Behaviour, You`ll Notice that Webers makes the Engine to Sound a Loud "Roar" When they`re with Gas Pedal Fully Down... Really Great Sound! You can Find some great Threads about the Weber Swap Here... I Suggest you to Read. I Wrote one that could be found at my "Public Profile" Page`s List, just Click on my Avatar. So I Suggest you that if even with New Fuel Filters, Sparks, etc the Problem Persist: Go Weber! ... is Not only a Solution, it is a Great improvement. (The only thing you Might be Careful is the Pollution Laws at your Area) I Hope this can Help you. Best Regards. Why did that the Previous Owner?
  22. I Agree! ... Ha Ha! ... I`ve Never Heard That Before! ... ... It`s So Funny! Well... Think about that Subie as a Friend, Your First Subie! ... is Like a Friend who Needs your Help and as Long as you put effort on Fixin` it, you`ll feel Proud of Owning & Driving your First Subie, in Better Conditions than it was First and Knowin` that it is Possible because you Did it! Another Great Motivation Could be to invite some of your USMB Friends to Spend a Weekend at your Home; so Together you can make a "Fixing-a-Subie Party" you Know... While Spend most of the Time Fixin your Subie Together, all of you can Enjoy a Great Weekend, plenty of Stories, Food, Great Conversation, etc... and then you can Have a Great Remembrance of that Weekend... ... Don`t Forget to Post Pics of your Subie as Long as you Can, Showin` the Progress!!! Good Luck!
  23. So, do you Mean the Honda`s six 1.8 Engine? it is Boxer, isn`t it? ... Could you Post Pics? with that engine, your Subie Still will be 1.8 but with 6 Cyls... ...Sound interesting, I believe that the Hardest part could be to Match it to the Trans...
  24. Just for Share some information, let me Tell... ...that the Rally Racer -not "Ricer" - Version of the EA82T Back in its Time, claimed to Push 190 Hp ... or at Least it says so in some older Magazines... See: That was Only for U.S.A. `cos here they Came Carbed and Fi was just an Option... even Legacies came Carbed here untill mid nineties decade... Let me Tell you that we have the same Euro / Asian Models Here at Latin America Too... ...I Believe the U.S.A. Market have more Laws against Car`s Pollution and Regulations, Also the U.S.A. Market have the Biggest Engines as Standard too, While those was just an Option here... we had the Loyale in 1.6L (EA71) and even in 1.3L (EA65) Still available in 1994... and Optional was the 1.8L (EA81 in DL Version, EA82 in GL Version) Kind Regards.
