  1. So Sad to Ask, but Someday, Somehow it should gonna Happen: When Our Older Generation of Subies, Will Fall into the Historic Generation? By the Evidence, I see that a New Generation is Classified -Well, Some Sort of- by the Engine's Technology & Family, Also by Body Design. That's Why the Loyale (EA) is Older Generation, even if they was still Available New untill 1994, and Legacies (EJ) are New Generation, even if they Started to Sell them as Early as 1989. So, Seeing http://www.boxerdiesel.com/ Website, about the New Subaru's Engine Technology, and Seeing the New Body Stile with Doors that have Frames ... ... I Believe that the Day when our EA Engined Subies from the Eighties and Nineties, will become part of the Historic Gen Too, is Near ... With all these UnSubaru Changes, and the Development of the New Toyota AE86 (Trueno) by Subaru, and Posibly the new Camry... What do you Think About that?
  2. Nice Project! ... is Rare to See an Automatic Coupe with Four Headlamps... is it the DL? Here the DL Coupe came Manual Tras and FWD 1.3 Engine. (EA65) I Like the Golden Rims, are those Aftermarket?
  3. You`ll Need an EA81T Engine! ... is Better to Swap the Entire Engine for Sure. Better than that, you can Swap an EJ Engine there too ... ...
  4. I don`t want to hijack the thread, but... I forgot to Ask what do you think about the Gunk`s Valve Medic?
  5. Good Luck! ... Take Pics Please, also it will be Nice to see Bucky Again!
  6. Well... I`ll like to See Pics, to Learn about that Situations. is there Any Way to Prevent it from Happen?
  7. Due to my Experience workin` on Some EA82`s (Not only mine) I can tell you that... ...Yes!' date=' You`re Right[i']![/i] ... Overheating can Cause the Tickin` Noise too... I`ve repaired a Friend`s Subie EA82 that Overheated Twice in a Year, both times Changed Head Gaskets and Cleaned the Lifters, but it seems like the Overheated Engine`s Oil, leaves some sort of Crystalized Barnish inside the Track of the Lifters, Damaging them... The Noise went off completely just untill my Friend changed all the Noisy Lifters with another ones. I`ll Love to Know more about the ATF in Engine`s Oil Results, are that a Good Choice to "Clean" an Engine in our Warm Caribbean Climates? I`ll Really Love to obtain a Can of Seafoam, ... here in my Country seems like No one knows about it ... :-\ ... The Only Oil Additives with Good Quality that you can obtain here, are the Marvel Mistery Oil (MMO) the QMI with PTFE (Teflon) the Liqui-Moly`s "Motor Protect" and then the other Additives are Cheap and they seems to be just Viscosity Helpers, like the STP "No Smoke" etc... But no one of them are Cleaners, Just Oil Additives. I`ve Tried QMI in Diesel Trucks (Toyota Dyna and Daihatsu Delta) and it really makes the Engine to Start Faster, Rev Easier and Runs Cooler... Same for Liqui-Moly ... but that effect just last around eight Months... but it Worth the Price? But I Really have some Fear to pour Some Oil Additives in a EA Subaru Engine, Because a Friend who is Mechanic, told me long time Ago, that the Engine`s Oil becomes too Thin for our Climates and the Fuel Pump may end Damaged. He explained the Possible Damage as "Scratches and Wear in Pump`s inner Metal, which measures are critical" What do you Think About? ... is That True? I`ll Like to know more Details about...
  8. Great! ... Still there are Kind People! A "Subaru Only" Junk Yard? ... Sounds Awesome!
  9. I Came Across the Same Problem, but not in a Subie, it was in an Old Datsun I`ve Repaired... it was the Piston, so I Used Penetrating Oil to make it Move, I Taked it Out and used very Fine Sandpaper to remove the Rust, it worked great... Maybe that Idea could Help You.
  10. Great! ... We are with you in every Step! the Swap Looks so Nice so Far...
  11. Yes, Now I can Reach your Album at Webshots... (their Service is Full of Pop-ups) ...Let me tell you that the Red "X" Icon in your First Post, sent me to a "Forbidden" Message Page too... But in Spanish! Well... Thank you for Share your Pics!
  12. So sad Situation with your Engine... but I Believe there was Some High Pressure inside the Engine, maybe the Vent Hoses or Maybe Coolant, even could be Both, (Because it sounds to me like Hydro Lock) but let me ask you a Question: is the EA71`s intake Manyfold a Bypass for Coolant Lines too? if So, maybe the Intake Manyfold has the same Design that have a Li`l Hole to the Hitachi Carb`s Base, to Heat with Coolant... I am not Sure `cos I only have Worked on a Couple of EA71`s (and I Didn`t removed their Carb) if So, Maybe when you did the Weber Swap, Didn`t Closed that Hole or the Intake`s Base wasn`t Flat enough to keep it Closed Tight under High Temps / Pressures... Good Luck!
  13. I Don`t want to Hijack the Thread, but Could I Ask more info about this? ... I never Heard about it and sounds Very important, I Drive a Lot...
  14. also Keep an Eye on the Fluids, Change Brake, Power Steerin` & Gearbox Oils every Year with the Best you Can, Check Brakes and Drive Carefully!
  15. ... ... Well... I Believe one of 'em could be (as you wrote) Bad Gasoline... or an Electrical False Contact on the Grounds. Good Luck! Kind Regards.
  16. Well... There are some nice Written Threads about it, like This one: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=94889 You`ll need the Engine + the Wires Harness, ECU and Fuel Pump from a Donor Car, usually a Legacy`s EJ22. to Fit that EJ engine on your Subie`s EA Engine`s Gearbox, you`ll need an Adaptor, Check the SJR website to obtain that Adaptor. Could you post Pics of your Lifted Subie?
  17. as Far as I Know, both sides are the Same Size... so There`s no "Shorter" one... But Boots comes in "Short" shape = for the Wheel side, and in "Long" shape = for the Gearbox side. I Use the Long one in Both sides and it gave me Great Results on Long Lasting Boots over the Years... I Hope this Idea can Help you. Good Luck!
  18. Nice Subie, I Like the Colour! The Front Emblem is from the Japan`s Impreza, isn`t it?
  19. as it has been said, under the Front Passenger`s seat Carpet
  20. Maybe it is just a Loosen Plug / Ripped Wire that makes good Contact with Weight on the Passenger`s Seat. Also, if you look your relay in very good Shape, that doesn`t mean that it is Working good... Some relays have internal fail due to Hidden Rust, etc... So I Suggest you to Test it. if you Test the Relay and it is bad, I Suggest to read my Writeup about how to Swap a Bosch Standard Relay where Round Relays are... Just Click on my Avatar, and you`ll reach a List of some of my Writeups. I Hope this can Help. Kind Regards!
  21. Nice Brat for a Project! ... an Old School Subie is a Good way to Start in the Subaru World
  22. Awesome Work! Could be fit There the Skid Plate?
  23. Also, I Suggest you to Check it, maybe it is Just Loose and the Vibration makes the Noise. You Writed that When you Turn the Key, the Fan Starts? ... That is not Correct on EA82`s, because they have the Belt Driven Fan Permanently Spinnin` and the Electric fan Should come ON when the A/C is ON or when the Engine`s Cooling system reaches a Li`l Bit Above the Half Temperature at the Temp Gauge... So if the Fan is Permantly ON with the ignition Key, Something is Wrong with it, Maybe the Thermo Switch went bad and Someone just Bypassed it, or maybe the Subie was Overheating... I Suggest to check that Too. an Electric fan that is Permanently ON with the ignition Key will not last too Long, and should wear Faster the Alternator too... Good Luck!
  24. I Agree... Heaven... if I Could, I`ll save those XT`s, and the Rear Disc Brakes...
