Just for Share Info: Last Week, I was changin` the Oil on my White Wagon, and while it was drainin` the old oil, my Boss asked me for some info I got on my PC, so I took a Taxi, (here cost around $3.ºº an Average Taxi Ride) and the Taxi I got, was a 1988 Loyale... ...So (Obviously) I Started talkin` with the Taxi Driver about his Subie. I Inmediately Noticed that the Speedometer was doing a Wrong count, Because the car just Started at first Gear, and the Speedometer did Show 35 Mph... Then it Raised soo Fast, untill the Needle was markin` 75 Mph, and the car was just on Third Gear, at Around 30 Mph... I Asked him about the Speedometer Malfunction, and he said something about that the car did have a bad Short Circuit, and he sent it to a Car Electrics Repairs Shop, Then it came just like That!... :-\ ... Why? ... He said that there, the Master Electrician said that it was an "Internal Damage" on the Speedometer itself... Well... is That Possible? ... might be that the Speedometer has some way to Adjust it? ... What do you Think About?

Yeah, I Know... Two things I Hate to do is Axle Job, and Timin` Belts job... I don`t know exactly why... :-\ I just want to Suggest you to use the Better Quality Grease for Constant Velocity Joints, not a "Standard" Grease, and for more long lasting, I use the "Large" boot (For the Gearbox Side) on Both Sides, So I Suggest you to use the Large one on the Wheel Side too. Good Luck!

Water In Sealed Headlamp Unit
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For the Composite Headlights on Loyales, This is a -Temporary- Solution: Remove the Composite Headlamp from the Car (Just Unplug the Bulb`s Wire, Remove the Bulb and then you`ll Find Four nuts of Nº 10 Wrench; Unscrew `em and Pull Out the Headlamp with its Metallic Base & Springs, is very Easy) Then, you can turn it over in order to get out the most of the Water. Then, Place the Unit in the Floor, next to a 110 Volts X 100 Watts Household Bulb for around Four Hours or More. (I leaved it all night long) The Household Bulb`s Heat, will evaporate all the Remainin` Water / Moisture from the Headlight Unit, thru its opened Bulb`s Hole. Be Careful!!!, the Headlight unit and the Household bulb should be Very HOT! ... Handle with care, I suggest to wait around 20 minutes after disconnecting the power from the Household Bulb. Then just put back again the Composite Headlight unit to the car, and Replace the 9004 Bulb with a New one (I Strongly suggest to Replace both 9004 by a Better performance 9104 Bulbs) The new bulb shall came with fresh rubber sealant, to prevent Water / Moisture to get into the Unit Again. Why I Writed "Temporary" ? ... Well... it is due to the Fact that if there was Water, the Metallic Mirrors inside the Headlight unit, shall be under the attack of initial Corrotion, or can be Already Rusted... and Rust can continue, makin` the Headlight to Perform Poorly; and Also the Water infiltration on the Headlight might be Not Only due to the 9004 Bulb`s Rubber Salant, it also can be due to a Micro Failure on the Glass` Assembly of the Headlight. But Still its Worth to Try. Good Luck! -
You´re Right!!! ... I Forget to Say that I´ve Used on my subies 205/65 R13 since long long time ago, Meaning that I´ve those Performing Pretty Good on the Stock Rims Too, The only weird thing is that due to the Extra Wide of the Tyre, they seems to be a Li´l "Flat" or Low in Air Pressure, even when they´re Good, due to the Less Wider Base of the Rim. I Never got any Problem with That, except since I use the New Steel Chromed Rims; ´cos the New ones are more "Central" Rims, they goes "Outside" of the car for an Inch, and Under Heavy Loads / Bad Roads, the Tyre sometimes "Touch" the fender of the Car... No Problem So Far...
-
Well... I have 205/65 R 13" on my Yellow Wagon, and 195/70 R 13" on my White Wagon, (They´re Fatty Tyres, and they Really do better Performance on our Damaged, muddy & Very Curvy Roads) I use Chinese Tyres, they´re Cheaper and Very Very Good Tyres. No one of my wagons have Stock Rims, They´re Chromed Steels, but still 13" X 6.5".

What are these lines for?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Andy FitzGibbon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Could you Post a Pic of That here? I Think the one that is hooked into a "Tee"on the fuel line, might be the "Return" Line, that Craptachi Carbs does have. Also the remainin´ one should be the Vent for the gas tank one. I have a Weberized Subie (see: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74206&page=1&pp=10 For Mo´ Details) and I didn´t connected the Return to a "Tee" (Seems to be a Good Idea Anyone could tell us About? ) and I did leaved the Vent for the Tank line opened, just a 1/8º Hose is attached to it to go Down, preventing Moisture from goin´ inside. -

I Agree, Thanx for Postin´ his Photos, The Subie Really Looks Nice! -
Usually, newer Webers came with Electric Choke, just as the Hitachi came. But I´m not Sure in which Engine will you install the Weber... I only know that in EA82's with Power Steerin´ units, is so Difficult to install the Carb along with its Choke, due to the fact that there´s Not enough Space between... I had to Remove entirely the Choke, in my White Wagon, but I live in the Tropical Cental America, where Climate temperatures usually are around 22-25º C, and just at December / January \ February we got as lower temps as 5º C ... and Even at just 5º C my EA82 Subie Starts inmediately & Drives pretty Good, without any Choke. (I don´t know how will be its Behaviour in Colder Climates as Snows... ) For more info about my Weber Install, see: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74206&page=1&pp=10 Good Luck!

Weber install: backfire from intake.
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to TheYeti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I Suggest you to re-Check the Ignition Timin´ Degrees... Might be... Also, I suggest to remove the Vacuum that goes to the EGR, and cap it, then try to Drive the car for a while... it might fix the Problem. I Disabled the EGR in my Weberized EA82 with great results. Good Luck! -

cheap AC fix
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to loyalewithcheese's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... Thanx for your Answer! Did you noticed that when A/C is On, it robs Power from the Engine? ... I mean Too Much Power from the Engine, My Subie feels like 30Hp less... (Not like another car´s feeling). is it the "Average" behavior on EA82´s? -
It was the Internal Charge (voltage / Amp) Regulator, it is some sort of Integrated Circuit, welded in a small base board, along with some sort of Diodes (I write "Some Sort" `cos I don`t know exactly the right english Translation, I hope you`ll Understand) I did fix my Subie`s Alts. I spent around L 600.ºº "Lempiras" (our Currency = around $30.ºº US Dollars) in Parts to fix that. (here, used Alts are Expensive). Maybe is Cheaper in the USA to Fix your subie`s old Alt, so you can count with a good Spare one.

cheap AC fix
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to loyalewithcheese's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... about the Freon R-12, I just wanna say that here, in my country is not illegal, so I have no problems with that. Why it became illegal in the USA? ... I know that the R-134-A is the "New Age" of cars` Gas for A/C... but I have something else to ask about: Here in the Tropics, We got usually very hot climate, with Sunny / Rainy weather (Just Deceber, January & February are cool Climates) and I noticed that the A/C System of my EA82 isn`t blowing the air too cool, even if it is double checked (By two diffrerent proffesionals, at a two different A/C repair shops) and Everything is Working Fine! I even changed from any Relay involved (now are Bosch Standard) to the Blower fan, cleaned the condensator, etc... but it still doesn`t cool too much, so I use it just to Defrost the Windshield during rains. (it is the main purpose why I repair and maintain it, to be in very nice conditions, here rains Too Much) But comparing its Performance to other cars, its Coolness is too poor. So, Do you think that Using a R-134-A Retrofit Kit on my Subie, will improve its Performance? Thanx! -
Well... From the Inside? ... I think there are few things that could make a sound like that, and by their position, the sound can be heard as from the inside, or really can be originated Inside the Car. First Idea: The Muffler and its related sustainin` parts... if one or more of `em, hits the car`s floor -or nearby- the sound shouldn`t got an "Exactly Source" to identify if it comes from one or another side... You can put small wooden pieces between the muffler, the pipe, and the car`s nearby area, and drive it; just to try... if the sound goes, there was the cause. Just Don`t leave the Wooden pieces there!!! ... They can take fire :-\ and it can be Dangerous. Repair the Pipe / muffler position as Nessesary. Sometimes muffler doesn`t make any noise while movin` it with hands or something to try... it will Depends on the Nature of the Pipe position and the vehicle movements. Second Idea: Maybe is a foolish Idea, but since the rear seats` base can be "folded up" to increase the cargo area, might be that there`s anythin` left hidding there? ... somethin` like a Tool, or even the Seatbelts, etc... Third: Loosen wheel Ball Bearings? Good Luck!!!

noisy powersteering pump
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also, Noisy "Like Fords" (as you said) Power Steerin´ pumps can be due to its normal Wear, increased by the use of ATF oils in ´em in some cases... I Suggest you to try a Simple way to decrease the Noise and improve the unit´s performance: Remove all the old oil, and Change it with Power Steerin´ Fluid, but not the usual, the one that says "With Sealer Additives" or somethin´ like That. It did work fine in my White Wagon. Good Luck! -

weber carb problems..still
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also, it might be due to Dirt on the Carb... I think you used a new Fuel Filter, but if not, maybe the Gas tank was low and some dirt may went inside the carb. You can Try with Spray Carb. Cleaner... I hope it can Help. Good Luck! -
