running on 2 cylinders with an xt-6
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to jeffast's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe it´s due to bad timin´... The valves opens before the spark comes, fuel goes out without combustion. Also: check for cracked Dist. Cap... Maybe... Good Luck! -
It took a lot of effort and time... It started long time ago, and the work is still in progress... First you need a XT6 Donor... I got a Loyale almost identical to my Daily Runner, (The White Weberized EA82) it was in very very bad condition, just FWD, burnt engine, electrical stuff, etc... and I brought just as a "Parts Car" for the white one... Then A friend`s XT6 got hit from behind and almost destroyed it`s back... My friend gave me some parts of it Then, in the beginning, it was almost a nightmare to fit the ER27 on a Loyale, but it can be done... I think it can be done in your hatch too... A lot of Effort, work, patience you`ll need. Mine is a "Still Project Car" due to the fact that I still can`t fix the Overheatin` Issue. The Radiator doesn`t fit, so I put on a pair of some sort of small radiators, interconnected with electric fan... at one side of the engine... it overheats if I drive it hard... Also, I need to upgrade brakes... due to the extra weight, the stock ones aren`t enough... also due to increased speed So, I use almost everyday the white one -Weberized EA82- and the Yellow one is on the Island, at my Dad`s House... I use it on Weekend short trips... Is very nice but unfinished yet... Also, I can`t put a turbo on it yet, due to the overheatin` issue, and to put a turbo on it, we need the Pistons of the EA82T and a whole lot of other small / Big things to do... it`s a Nightmare for now... and I don`t have enough money... So I`ll leave it as is right now, it runs, maybe someday I finnish my Project... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * If your EA81 Runs very Good, -specially with the Weber- Just change the Oil at adecuate intervals, with the best oil you can find (I Personally Use "MOTUL" Brand SAE 20W50 `cos its Mineral -Non Petroleum- Base) The Oil / Air Filter, the Gearbox / Diff. Oil (85W90 GL-5) tune it up, change spark plugs, and That`s It! It`s Done! Nice Car you Got, I Like it... Could you Post Pics of it Here?

Any Way to get New Vacuum Advance?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Elroy Jetson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just for Info: I swapped the double hose vacuum advance from my Weberized EA82, for a Single Hose Vacuum Advance of another subaru model, I don`t know exactly which one, maybe it was a EA81... I found it cheap at the Dealer ... It moves Faster to the advance point and did fit exactly the dist. So the car accelerates Faster... Maybe my idea can help you... Just take the one on your car and compare it with the other subarus one at stores or junkyards, whatever... it seems like they fit each others... I`m not absolutely sure, but it works for me. Good Luck! -

Ratio of running vs. non-running subarus
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Snowman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... I got Two... Both are Loyales. One is my "Weberized" EA82 that runs and haul rump roast Great! and the other, originally was my "Parts" car, but then I make a lot of crazy things on it, is the "Yellow ER27" Loyale, it Runs too, but got some issues, like overheatin` brakes, etc... but Runs Great too : Both are Great Runners... I hope some day I can obtain a Brat! Gotta love`em -
Soob Dominates Mexican Desert!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to exister99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
YES! I think that too... I have traveled to mexico -About one year ago- this year to Nicaragua, in 2001 to El Salvador, 2000 to Guatemala, and long time ago to Costa Rica and Panama, in my Soob... I LOVE IT... but, since the Rise of Gasoline prices... I`ll think two times before I star a huge trip again... But I Love to Trip in My Subaru... Just in it. I don`t like to voyage in airplanes, trains, etc... definetively, I dislike to sit down in any artifact that I don`t drive... You Know... Let me tell ya that your Photos of that trip are Absolutely Wonderful... Just Great! thanx for sharing them with us... -
New Subaru (EA82) owners: Things to fix
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... it started in 1993... Our white EA82 -Now Weberized- was having problems in the engine, specifically in the engine`s tunning and explosions, etc... so my dad took it to the dealer`s mechanic shop. The master mechanic at the dealer said that in some EA82, the EGR design, that connect with the first cylinder, may damage the engine`s function... ...I was too young then, but I know that when they closed the EGR Pipe that goes from the intake (I know that maybe in some other newer EA82, the EGR design is different or Better, mine is from 1985) and capped the vacuum... and "Voilá!" ... The engine became "Normal" and stable in about three hours of drivin` ... and still is like that up today... I don`t know exactly why, but maybe any other member can help with more info about. Also I know that EGR can be an issue to pass emmissions test there in U.S.A... so be careful with this. -

Hey! Nice Trip, I Like It! I love those kind of trips... but in mexico there aren`t subarus yet, Isn`t it? so you must carry with you all the thinkable spare parts... I like too much the photos you take, and the Story you wroted. Very Nice! Maybe next time you come here, to central america. -
New Subaru (EA82) owners: Things to fix
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You only forgot to say to all EA82 owners To Cap and seal the EGR. close it and cap it`s vacuum... I think EGR is Dangerous to the EA82 due to its design. -

ahhhhhhhhh! they wrecked it !!!!!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to kingwill's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You are Welcome! I saw your images right now, and I must say that I Like your XT6 Too Much, really, it is very very clean and it`s very beautyful. I like it. Afortunately the damage isn`t too big, so you can fix it and again it will look soo good... maybe it is a good moment to re coat it with new paint... I suggest metallic white instead of the plain white (I call it: "Appliance" White) My Weberized EA82 Loyale was in its original appliance white, until it get hit from behind as I told above; then I used the same appliance white, with a cover of metallic white and then with clear coat, to get it looks in this way: I hope you like it... Maybe is good idea to try. Let us see images when you fix it. Your XT6 is a very nice car. Good Luck, and Take Care! -

It was early mornin` December 2003... I was going to do something in my White Subie... then all the cars in front of me did stop near of one corner in front, due to one driver did want to turn left... But the Driver of a Toyota HiLux KingCab 4X4 did not saw us stop... He was comin` from behind of me, turning stations on the Radio, in Third Gear at about 60 KPH and did Not Stop untill it`s front bumber did hit my subie`s rear bumper... My subie did hit the Toyota Yaris (Named "Echo" in U.S.A.) that was in front of me (Not much damage to that car, or my subie`s front), and I get somethin` named "LASH" on my neck... I need to use for a month, something on my neck to sustain it in the correct position... ...And my Subie get the tailgate almost "Inside" the Trunk. It was too dificult to fix it, but the sad part is that I still got the "Hurt" feeling on my neck, when I do some Movements... :-\ So, I suggest you to see a Doctor, and take Care with your Neck. -

Flushing A/C components
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes! it`s true... it happened to a friend`s Hatchback in the year 2001... I was with him, at the air cond. mechanic, near of the engine when a big explosion of one pipe`s fitting did occur... Hapily, no one get hurt... but it was very close... so I suggest that grossgary said, and be carefull... also I must tell you that the direct contact with the skin of the R134a or freon R12 etc... can be VERY dangerous... so be carefull. Good Luck! -
Rough idle! Help!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to iteamsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Another Question: How is the Oil Pressure at Idle? if it is too low -near zero- I think it`s time to reseal or -better- change the oil pump... I strongly suggest it specially if it is the original one, with those 377K miles and still workin` is a Miracle! If it`s the original one... I know that can be a "Part" of the Problem... Also I suggest you to Check the vacuum lines... and change any damaged / worn hoses... Good Luck! -

Yes! EA81 did came with Power Steerin` as an option Here. I drove one of a Friend`s Fiance about two year ago, it was a 1984 EA81-T (turbo) with the option package GL-10 AWD... it got power steerin` wheel along with power windows, etc... you know, and the digital dashboard... It was fine, just got a trouble with the Clutch`s Main Bearing and Disc... I was checkin` that to help my friend, and I liked that car too much. Also I saw another versions of the EA81 GL with power sterring... (without a turbo) I think it was an option.
