Big bang.....Smoke, is she kaput?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Suzrub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh My God! I hate "Big Bangs" on Engines... Well... I`m Almost sure that it wasn`t a timin` belt, due to the fact that the engine starts... I`m almost sure that your engine got a valve problem... but there is a small chance to that to be a Head Problem too... Long time ago, my dad did "Blow" one head, accidentally crackin` it by puttin fresh -very Fresh- Water on the engine that was overheatin` due to a blown head gasket that was evaporatin` the water out from the engine... A Cracked Head do exactly the same situation that you have... but I hope that is not your engine situation... I think it`s just a Valve`s Issue. I Suggest stop tryin` to run that engine like that, and check valve system... Good Luck! -
I Agree... But also I suggest to clean the Fuel System... I got same situation long time ago, and it was due to dirty gasoline... you know: Water, etc. on fuel system... I used to refill the gas tank at the cheapest gas station, and it was the oldest gas station, with its underground fuel tanks with filtration... gettin` worse on rainy days... the gas was dirty. I switched to other gas station & Cleaned the fuel system, and it fix the hesitation. Maybe it can Help. Good Luck!

40 Miles per gallon with ol Gl wagon
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to roadsubiedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
...Well... Back to the Roots of This, I just wanna tell as "INFO" to contribute to the Gas Economy, That when my white subie wagon was using the Hitachi Crap. (Carb) I Disconnected and closed the vacuum line that activates it`s secondary stage... And I got around 50 MPG on it... You Know... but that leads your subie to be a more "Grandmother Drivin` Car" (I Mean, the Engine feels Anemic, so the Car is Slowest, but Very Economic to Drive) ... But is Driveable... Don`t you wanna Try? it`s Simple... Good Luck! -
My garage is now complete!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice Pair of Subies... I`ll Love to have a Brat... Here they are very difficult to obtain, owners know them as a "Very Special Cars" so here in Honduras, both the Subaru Brat and the Toyota 1000 are the only cars that people don`t sell. Never... Maybe one day I can Find one... Congratulations! -
Ea81 Hitachi Rebuild -any Pointers?
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to backwoodsboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, I Agree... I spent Three months of Suffering with the Craptachi of my EA82... I tried to resurect it whith the original rebuilt kit... it won`t work at all... even with a friend mechanic specialized in carburetors that was helpin` me... Then I used a Nissan`s sentra 1,600 Hitachi crap. to run my white wagon, untill I got the Weber... Believe me: if you "Weberize" your subie, you`ll Never want to run a Craptachi Carb. Again... I Strongly suggest to Weberize Yours... but be careful with emisions regulations... Good Luck! -
You will never believe this!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to my87sockerwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, I Agree... Originals... It happens to my White Wagon at almost the same 220K`s ... it`s Good Idea to do a "Routine Maintenance" Now. -

Did you check the Hoses that activate the Idle Actuator of the Air Conditioneer? Those are two: one comin´ from the engine (3/16") to the Passenger´s side of the hood (Near the Glass) where the Relays of the A/C are Located... The second one comes from there to the Accelerator linkage, and it "Pulls" it a li´l bit to make your engine´s Idle speed increases when you turn on the A/C. If one or both of them are Unplugged or damaged, the simptoms are like that you describe... See this thread, maybe it can Help: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56060 Good Luck!

Better weber adaptor
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to SOOBOUTLAW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks! I am like you with things that don´t fit perfect... But let me explain why I did leave that like this in that situation: It´s all about the size of the openings at the Engine´s Heads and the size of the intake itself. Due to the fact that the size of the intake and the heads opening is the same, I believe that mill the intake bore does not have any effect or difference in the engine´s Performance -or carburetor´s Performance- that´s why I leave it like that... but is good idea to do things better and let the intake opening match exactly the adapter´s opening. I´ll like to see pics of your intake mill job done... Do you have any pics? Well... Thanx! -
Better weber adaptor
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to SOOBOUTLAW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, Me Too... But mine is a kit "K731" spec. for EA82 (Means: two adapter plates to make one) the one for EA81 is named "K730" (Single Adapter) in Redline Weber... (www.webercarburetors.com) The only issue I Got on that adapter, is that the bolts that came with it, didn`t fit the intake`s diameter... as I explained here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53143 And how to correct that... (With Pics) Any else looks and works perfectly for me. -
It happens to my White Wagon, about six month ago... The rear axle did wear enough to make the ball bearin` too loose to try to continue using it, so I changed the Whole complete rear part... (My subie is only FWD) ...Maybe your`s didn`t get that wear, so try with a Penetrating oil and a high torque air impact gun, as DeMoss said. Good Luck!
