1985 GL Wagon blowing blue smoke
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to ednalor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, if the case is that simple, then the Fix mentioned in the above posts, has been described, with photos and also a downloadable .pdf file, in post Nº 27 of the following thread: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/114260-oil-catch-can-in-ea82/?p=1030760 Kind Regards. -

If your Subaru still moves on its own and is Driveable, then allow me to contradict your Mechanic, because there is a Chance, small chance, that the culprit of those clouds of smoke, are the Valve seals; because the Early editions of the EA82, had an all-rubber seals that fails like that, while the newer editions, came with valve seals that featured a metallic inner core, much stronger and durable. If the subie still moves and drives, but blowin' such Cloud of Smoke, there is a chance that only will need an engine reseal to be good to go for another decade; those seals must be available at the Subaru Dealer. After all, 1985 is an Early edition, of a good Old school Subaru. Kind Regards. -

If you do an Oil Flush using a "Motor Flush" additive, Don't forget to pour it at the place where you'll change the Oil & Filter, just pour it onto the old oil, then start the engine and keep it at idle for around ten minutes, but follow the instructions behind the Bottle; then shut off the engine and immediately, drain all out, change the oil filter. Kind Regards. -

Those Plugs are there for Testing purposes. By the way, your Subie has the "Outboard" A/C compressor, that might be a Panasonic one, instead the most usual "inboard" Hitachi one. I'll like to see Photos of the interior ... Your Subie does look Nice. Kind Regards. -
Regarding the Euro Style tail lights, also I never liked the asymmetrical look. Your Repairs on the floor pan are looking very Clean and Well Done! Kind Regards.

Welcome Craig! The oily smell could be somehow a "normal" thing after a reseal, because usually certain amount of Oil gets to the Exhaust system or its covers, and smells as it get burned, so I don't believe this is related to the Engine Shaking + Power lost during Uphills. Many different things could cause that symptoms, but certainly I would suggest you to start by doing a Test of the Fuel Pressure at the injectors, because the culprit could be a failing fuel pump and / or a clogged fuel filter, which are not delivering the appropriate pressure. However, other causes could be a Failing Sparkplug: I've seen few with broken internal resistors, and also a Failing P.C.V. Valve, which could be Sucking oil on certain angles... In my own humble opinion, I would start by Checking those three. Don't forget to share Photos of your Liberty with us, we love Photos here Good Luck! ... Kind Regards.

Lookin' for a Front Li'l Lift
Loyale 2.7 Turbo replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Since the above part doesn't go all the way to the Back, reaching the parking brake Handle's base, like the GL's center console, I thought that I could simply place that part in front, instead of the one that I have, then a Floor Mat on the naked Shifter's area, leaving the rear part for the Parking brake, Stock; and finally let the mini rubber boot sit over said floor mat... Being without a center console on the Shifter, will lower the placement for the mini Rubber Boot; but I will miss the Wooden part... Maybe I just modify said wooden part to fit a Leather boot in place of the Mini Rubber boot. Something that fits my Black shifter Knob. ► Edited to add the Photo- 88 replies

So, my Options are: To change the GL style Center Console using parts from an Automatic / DL interior. Use a Leather Boot, instead of the mini Rubber Boot and keep the Wooden part. Make another wooden part, centered and thinner to be lower...- 88 replies

My problem now is with the interior's Aesthetics... The Wooden part I made for the Center Console, doesn't fit anymore. Because the shifter went one inch backwards, the outer Rubber boot is decentered. Also since I welded a half inch longer metal cube, instead the Rubber cube for the Linkage: The already shortened shifter, went down another half inch, making it even Shorter...- 88 replies

So the Rubber boot's Metal Plate got centered, again: I had to use Oversized Washers in Front, and drill a tiny hole in the Rear's middle to fix it up with a Screw.- 88 replies

The small 45º bent in the back part was needed, because there goes a Wiring Harness, so the angle in fact Protects said harness, instead of getting forced in between the wires.- 88 replies

Then, I prepared the metal Plate, prior to painting it: So, the 4WD models has it installed Backwards than the 2WD models, That means that the 4WD models has the Shifter Closer to the Stereo!- 88 replies
