  1. You will have to learn to live with it. Mine is real bad and you can listen below. I am going to try some of that marvel mystery oil when I can find some. Mu engine has 200K
  2. I checked a pic on Ebay, that radio has 2 plugs. You have the factory woofer, you should be fine
  3. I got a OEM Subaru in-dash 6 disk changer for my 98 OBW off eBay for less then 75 bucks. The radio came from an 02 WRX. Plugged right in with no issues. Many other years will work as well
  4. Thanks again to USMB, I think I am picking up two knuckles with good hubs installed. This will also close out the bearing job I needed to do
  5. Yes, the ABS sensor, I was removing the knuckle and had to take it out. I like the smaller bolt idea.
  6. Well I snapped the bolt head off that holds in the speed sensor into the knuckle. Now the speed sensor has no way to be secured on. Do I replace the knuckle or drill out that rusted welded bolt that snapped like butter after being soaked for 3 days in PB plaster. Its a 98 OBW 200K.
  7. When I am in there I replace all 3 seals back there. Main seal, Replace oil seperator plate for upgraded model and the o-ring on access port for the rods. I went to Home depot with my new main seal and built the tool to drive it in with PVC pipe. The tool cost we under 10 bucks to make.
  8. I would suggest a Ebay kit. I have used 2 of them with no issues. I would suggest also, water pump (Ebay) and front cam and crank seals. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97-SUBARU-LEGACY-2-5L-DOHC-TIMING-BELT-KIT-SET-EJ25_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1171Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem400025972086QQitemZ400025972086QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  9. I have a 96 2.5 with HLA's. Mine are very noisey, but do quite down a little. I always have a tap though. I am using 5-30
  10. Replacing the fork is simple, I wonder if they reused the spring clips? Sounds like they may have. Question, with the trans out why not just do the whole clutch? The spring clips connect the fork to the bearing and you can't get to them without removing engine or trans.
  11. I just did a HG job on an engine that was using coolant, the engine was quite before I did the job. Now I have a very noisy lifter. Lots of people told me that Subaru engine's are very loud after a HG job. What does the noise sound like?
  12. Let me know if he does not pick them up?

  13. These things are real cheap on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-SUBARU-OUTBACK-LEGACY-WAGON-WASHER-FLUID-BOTTLE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem220334439749QQitemZ220334439749QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  14. If you are seeing a trail and you think its from the motor, it has got to be the pump. Make sure its not leaking from lower hose and running back to the engine, that would be a cheap fix.
  15. Wow, that is the highest I have ever heard for a blown HG. I would not pay a dime over 600 for that car. I have a 98 OBW 154K 5 Speed with a re-sealed engine and I am hoping to get 3K
  16. For the "no brakes" problem, I had the same issue when it was real cold outside. I disconnected the brake booster hose on both ends and ran WD-40 through it until it came out the other side. That did the trick. Thank You USMB,
  17. I knew there would be an issue. Looks like I am doing the HG for my brother. Thanks for the advice
  18. Hello all, I have done several inter 95 to 98 2.5 to 2.2 OBW swaps with no issues. Here is the question. Will a 95 to 99 2.2 or 2.5 swap into a 2000 OBW. Let me know.
  19. I have had piston slap for so long I would think something was wrong if I did not hear it in the morning. It goes away after a few miles
  20. I had this same dilemma on Wednesday. I have 98 OBW all 4 tires are the same make and model. The fronts had 40% left and the rears are at 60%. I had a front tire go flat do to bad tie rod and inner tread went bald. No way I was dropping 400 on 4 tires. I got one new tire and went on my way. I have a 200 miles with no issues and no torque bind. I will address my worn suspension issues later.
  21. Man I am so tempted to grab a hub tamer off Ebay. Would the Knuckle make a difference if it came from a Legacy or a OBW?
  22. This engine has the old style tensioner. It seemed solid when I re-installed. I am going to pull the cover off and check it for play. I am also noticing an exhaust hole type of sound coming from that same side of the engine as the knock when I apply pressure to the gas pedal. I renstalled the exhaust and there were no holes I could see. May something under the heat shields!.
  23. I finished my HG replacement (96 2.5 175K) this weekend and I now have an issue I did not have before. I have a very loud tap coming from the driver side engine at idle. I hear it go away when I am driving but that might because of the noise of the road and the rest of the car. I had the heads milled and a valve job done. Its not eating coolant as it did before. This year did have the hydraulic bucket lifters and I did notice that during installation one was more spongy then the rest. But did not think anything of it as there was no tap before the swap. Could I have a bad lifter? Could I now have a cylinder banging against a wall, Maybe my timing is off. Anyone ever see this?
  24. I used Kelly Blue Book and looked up the trade-in value for good condition.
