  1. The starter has nothing to do with the cruise control. But the starter is near the cruise control cable, the may have stretched it out. Check to see if anything is loose
  2. Sounds like your under warranty? Lucky You, The worst case, you have a blown head gasket. Have them perform a cylinder leak down test and along with a hydro carbin test.
  3. Great idea, I will try some washers if that does not work I will head off to autozone
  4. Subaru 360, thats my problem I can't get it tight enough. Any idea what size repair flange I need?
  5. The cat collar area is very corroded and I can't get it fush. But it is tight aroun the pipe section. should the donut sit flush on the cat collar? If it should then I am done, I need a new rear cat....
  6. 98 OBW 180K, I replaced the mid-pipe and now I have a exhaust leak. I Replaced the donut gaskit between the midpipe at the 2nd Cat. Now I have a leak at that flex connection. It can only be tighten so much before the bolts its the midpipe, otherwise I would crank it away. Any tricks here?
  7. I just sold mine for 3K, 97 OBW it had 180K and a rebuilt 2.2 in it. I would suggest craigslist and Ebay. Stay away from the 2.5 unless you have in writing some warrenty on the engine for a month of 2. There are several people on this forum that purchased the car and it over-heated on the way home.
  8. Dump it, or fix it yourself. The car is not worth the repair. Your could probally get a G off Ebay for it maybe more in the current condition http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130196592250&rd=1
  9. Are you trying to remove the balancer? Hit it on both edges left and right side with a mallet. It should just slide off.
  10. $2295 is still alot of flow, I would never sink that into a late 90's Subaru when you can pick a working OBW off Ebay for 3G's. I am selling my 97 OBW for 3100 this weekend.
  11. And here is your cheap fix. Go to a parking lot and perform several tight figure eights. It worked for me to lossen the clutch paks up. The second cheap fix is adding in the limited slip deffeential oil from Dodge driving for a few miles and chaning the fluid. I did not have to get to this stage but people on this forum have suggested it. As stated make sure your tires are all the same and at the correct air pressure.
  12. I let my knock sensor stay on and off about a year. Being broken did not cause any harm. I found one on an old boneyard motor for a few dollars. I have seen people get away with the NAPA and Pepboys version with no problems. I may get some piling on with that comment. The Knock sensor is a common replacement item.
  13. I am going to give it to you straight. You have 2 issues. The first is you probally have a blown head gasket. The second issue is a) knock sesnor or O2 sensor. My advice..... Get to the Subaru dealer and purchase the 4oz blue bottle of coolant conditioner ASAP and add it in. While you are there get a price on an engine compression test to check your HG you may need it if the blue bottle does not work. Join the club you are not alone.
  14. The swap to a 2.2 is very easy. I have done 2 in my garage with a toolset I bought at Costco and a engine lift I got off Craigslist. I did need to purchase a swivel head wrench and a breaker bar. Take a pic of the car inside and out and post it. Look what this guy got for a OBW with a BAD engine. 1900. I still can't believe it. Regarding the AC recharge, I did one in my driveway yesterday from a kit I bought at Walmart http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130196592250&rd=1
  15. This is the best garage that ever was. When no one else can solve a problem bring it hear. Whiteman's Garage 604 Corner Ketch Rd,Hockessin,DE,19707 Phone: (302)239-4996
  16. I shoulod keep a cut an past of my answer. The collant all over your tire is from exhaust gas blowing your coolant resevoir empty. You have a busted head gasket. Sounds like you have a 2.5 but you really have a 2.2. This could be the first case of a 2.2 with a bad head gasket. From how you describe the car sounds like its not worth a 2,000 dollar repair.
  17. Gloyale, check Ebay and Craigs list... that is what a car is worth. Now if you like going to some used car lot or a dealership and paying retail then go ahead. I have a 97 OBW thats yours for 3100 I am located in PA.
