  1. Another sub off the road, and another one on. Quick question was that old beater a 2.5?
  2. WOW, I purchased mine of Ebay for 57 bucks shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Legacy-New-Harmonic-Balancer-96-99_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38656QQihZ009QQitemZ190003335346QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
  3. Yep, it looks like liquid rust with some of those gold chips they use in goldschlager. I had an external leak behind the timing belt cover, worked perfect.
  4. Not sure why all the postive news about the 2.5. Its not if the HG will blow its when is it going to happen (on the way to the camping trip, work, family, frinds) When mine went and I put a 2.2 in since EVERYONE knows its like putting a nuclear reactor in your car
  5. I think I passed out!! When I put that fuse in place should the car be off or on? That additive is added into the transmission fluid filler pipe correct? Where can I get a funnel that is small enough to fit in there? And the big question? I have a box of ATF on my garage that has been sitting for 2 years (I put this job off) is it still good?
  6. I have this same problem. Question, If I want to rule out my duty solenoid C all I have to do is stick a fuse in the "FWD" box inside the engine compartment. What size fuse should I use?
  7. I stand by my free to 100 bucks. Even if he parted it you may get a 500-800 bucks but he wants a car. An engine and a trans problem not to mention a suspension issue is lots of time and money. To get that car running your looking at 3-4K:cool:
  8. how many miles on the pully? I purchased and aftermarket pully off of Ebay, it spins true no problems
  9. Blown HD, blown head gasket. Thats why the engine is over-heating. If they took that car to the dealer just to fix that your looking at 1,200 to 1,500. You still have a transmission problem and suspension issue. Unless you have lots of time and money I would not touch it.
  10. Dude, I am going to be honest I would not do what you are describing. First you are paying WAY to much for that car. I would say "free or up to 100 bucks. Your next problem is you have a 94, which translates into ALOT of extra work. A Sub Legacy Outback with a blown HD 96-98 with NO other issues I might pay 500 bucks
  11. Wait a second, if your starter is frozen the engine will not hand crank. Pull the starter off and try to hand crank with a socket on the bolt holding down the harmonic balancer.
  12. Been there, broke the head off of the Caliper mounting bolt which was not removed for 10 years. I spent 2 hours drilling it out. I did not have a tapping set to fix what I broke while drilling it out nor could I find a 17mm tap at any store. I spent 100 bucks on a new mounting bracket. Moral of the story, buy a impact gun off ebay and a new compressor at any home improvement store. If you are going to work on your car you need it.
  13. Going to make this simple for you as I have done the 2.5 to 2.2 on a Legacy Outback. I used a 97 2.2. From the donor car (450 dollars tops) 1) Engine / use the exhaust manifold from the 2.2 donor 2) AC Compressor you must keep and hoses from your 2.5 mount onto the 2.2 3) Metal Power steering lines from the 2.5 move them over 4) The fly-wheel from the 2.5 will have to be moved over to the 2.2. From Subaru 1) All new exhaust gaskets (10 dollars) 2) new o-rings for the AC hoses you disconnect 3) new o-rings for the power steering lines you disconnect From Walmart 1) 2 cans of 12 oz refrigerant and a refill hose (30 bucks) While you are at it replace this on the 2.2 donor (100 bucks) an easy to do with the engine out. 1) Harmonic balancer (50 ebay) 2) AC and Alternator belts (20 pepboys) 3) Rear cam seal (5 dollars) 4) Oil Separator Plate (sure to be leaking, original is plastic) (15 dollars) 5) Rear main seal. (20 dollars) 6) Spark Plugs (10 dollars) 7) PCV Valve ( 8 dollars) 8) Valve cover gaskets (2 of these) and grommets for the bolts (30 dollars) 9) Reseal the oil-pan and replace both gaskets that are internal. (RTV temp sealer 4 bucks, gaskets are 10 bucks)
  14. My 97 2.2 had a plastic separator plate. I went to the dealer and purchased the metal version for 12 bucks.
