Get the rotors at Pepboys, 20 bucks a pop. The pads at peps should be around 40 bucks. Get a can of MR. Wrench Silicone spray to clean the metal brake clips, if they are bent go to the dealer to get new one's. You will probally need a breaker bar to get the calipar mounting bolts off, use some liquid wrench. Side note, be carefull taking those bolts off, if this is the first time the rotors have been changes they will be froxen on and you do not want to break head of the bolt off like I did. My sub was out for a week and it cost me 90 bucks for that braket. If you have those bolts off and they are rusted to the nine's replace them for 3 bucks a pop you will need 4. That is a dealer item.

putting non interference 2.2 in 1999 legacy
msmithmmx replied to courtney's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I blew a head gasket on my 98. I put a 2.2 from a 97. As long as you have both engines ( including the exaust manifold, fly-wheel, power steering lines and AC hoses) for the swap you can make it plug and play. I was able to interchange everything. -
I have had enough, this is final. Go to the sub dealer and by the 2 dollar additive for the coolant system. All you have to do is remove 8oz of the current coolant and add the leak preventer in. Go to peps and get 4 rotors at 20 bucks a pop and front and rear pads at 40 a pop. Total repair 162.00. I just saved you major cash. Then have a talk with your neighbor and tell him that you are on to him and you will be watching. Ding, fries are done.

Anything that would stop it from working in a 97 Legacy, like the wiring- harness.

Does anyone know if there are any big differences with a 90 2.2 and a 97 2.2?

98 Forester seized cam, engine options?
msmithmmx replied to arcticracer's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Going to make this simple for you as I have done the 2.5 to 2.2 on a Legacy Outback. From the donor car (450 dollars tops) 1) Engine / use the exhaust manifold from the 2.2 donor 2) AC Compressor you must keep and hoses from your 2.5 mount onto the 2.2 3) Metal Power steering lines from the 2.5 move them over 4) The fly-wheel from the 2.5 will have to be moved over to the 2.2. From Subaru 1) All new exhaust gaskets (10 dollars) 2) new o-rings for the AC hoses you disconnect 3) new o-rings for the power steering lines you disconnect From Walmart 1) 2 cans of 12 oz refrigerant and a refill hose (30 bucks) While you are at it replace this on the 2.2 donor (100 bucks) an easy to do with the engine out. 1) Harmonic balancer (50 ebay) 2) AC and Alternator belts (20 pepboys) 3) Rear cam seal (5 dollars) 4) Oil Separator Plate (sure to be leaking, original is plastic) (15 dollars) 5) Rear main seal. (20 dollars) 6) Spark Plugs (10 dollars) 7) PCV Valve ( 8 dollars) 8) Valve cover gaskets (2 of these) and grommets for the bolts (30 dollars) 9) Reseal the oil-pan and replace both gaskets that are internal. (RTV temp sealer 4 bucks, gaskets are 10 bucks) -
I did the reverse. I went from a 98 2.5 to a 97 2.2, I did not change any of the wiring. I am running my 2.2 on the 2.5 computer. What is not working?

Fixed it, I have taken my Outback back 1) Unplugged the car battery 2) Put the Key in and turned it on 3) Plugged the car battery back in 4) The car now disarmed itself 5) The remotes were still dead 6) Reprogrammed one of the remotes, they other was dead 7) Finished.

About 3 weeks ago I swapped my blown 2.5 for a 2.2. The car worked like a champ, put about 30 miles on it. Now my outback has a mind of its own. The car will arm itself and not allow me to turn it on all the while sounding off the alarm.. Both of my key fobs are not working. I know my neighbor car interferes with the alarm system (factory) I pulled the car battery yesterday an I am letting it sit for a few days. Not sure what happened it worked for 2 weeks with no issues and now my key fobs are dead ( I changed the battery on them. Does anyone know how to re program the key fobs?
