  1. ok so. after much time and having to move. i finally got around to the xt. turns out the plug in the left front was not installed correctly. and when i say this i mean it was moving while the engine ran. when i touched it i could hear air leaking past. and when i was smelling the fuel in the oil. even after i changed it. i had driven it qutie a bit. running on three cylinders. i am gonna say this was half the problem. but i dont seem to have that issue anymore. :::fingers crossed::: i replaced all plugs. that one never was tightened properly. RPM automotive installed these plugs. the socket binded on the the head and felt like it was tight. i am just happy it did not blow out of the head causing major issues. it is now running well. used the E3 spark plugs. so far so good. when i get more time and can have the car down for more than a few days i will check to see if i do indeed have a leak down problem. thank you everone for your input. on to the next step and replace cv axel. and then injector check and then something else i am sure. oh yeah leaking from a nasty rust hole under the plastic cover at the bottom of the windshield. about the size of a half dollar.. not looking forward to pulling all that off to fix this. i hope this isnt gonna be something major, but i am sure it wont be easy to say the least. damn new jersey car.
  2. very nice brat. welcome to the board. hope you get to enjoy your new toy. i have found for me working on my subarus is half the fun of owning them. but i feel that way about any vehicle. i wish i could find a brat. being in florida makes that next to impossible. i got a baja to hold me over till i can find one. looking forward to seeing the progress.
  3. did you post any videos of your wagon on you tube? i swear i thought i saw one of this car.

  4. random my rump roast, that was just right place right time. oh forgot to mention the trans swap on your legacy a week ago. so glad we got that done so quick. a week quicker than the sedan axel replacement.
  5. past due for axel replacement. took a little longer to get the right parts. but got it done. thank you rpholz for your help. now if i could just find that picture of you sitting in front of the fan....lol. dropped the strut towers from the top. a BFH and 2X4. to push the axel through and get the new ones installed. all is well. now about those noisey lifters:rolleyes:. and yes i had to remove the left corner maker light to replace the axels........! at least this time rpholz...aka...ryan. no guy on a bicycle pulling that dude in a wheel chair with a case of beer. hell i say...lmao!!!
  6. an injector leaking down is what i am thinking. in the process of finishing up two new axels my 88 sedan. as well as rotors and and pads. when that is finished. i will get back to the xt. thank you for the info 94 loayle. and grossgary i have been down this road before gas in the oil. granted it was on carbed V8s. but still there was no quick or easy way of diagnosing this problem. it runs fine and does burn excess fuel. no black smoke on start up or while driving. so i figured it was leaking down after shut down. will know more when i get a chance to pull the plug i put in and se what they look like. thanks you for the help.
  7. i have a xt 89 mpfi. runs fine. no major issues. other than cv axel needs replaced, par for the course. but my main problem. upon checking the oil noticed a gas smell. not knowing if the people before me used and type of seafoam or other engine cleaners in the oil. i changed the oil. besides it needed it. well after a week of driving. i now smell gas in the oil. the xt starts right up no problem. no smoke upon start up or driving. but yet it seems there is gas in the oil:eek:. i dont have oil smoke from bad rings and compression is good in all cylinders. i am stumped:confused:. i am gonna pull the spark plugs to inspect tomorrow. dont what that will tell other than they need to be replaced...lol. any help to point me in the right direction would much apprecated:rolleyes:! never dealt with this in either my spfi sedan or any other injected vehicle. i have in old carbed vehicles. but those where float sticking issues. not gonna help me here:grin:. thank you for time.
  8. the price you pay is what you think it is worth. i love my sedan i paid a 1,000 for it and it had 300,000 when i bought it. many would think that was too much for a car with such high miles but after researching and finding this board i knew that what i was willing to pay:rolleyes:. original price was like 1400 but i got him down to 1,000 cash. still have it to this day. i dont get to drive it much at all right now. but i got new parts and body work and it will see the road again. congets on the find and what ever you do enjoy!!!!
  9. ok finally got the wagon running. only to find the driver side camshaft pulley for the timing belt is bent:confused:. looks like the belt got behind it and bent it. you cant really see it until the car runs. i never saw it till i started the car checking the timing. my girlfriend really needed her car. so it has to run as it is for now. it runs and drives fine. the sooner i can get my hands on that pulley the better. i am sure that the pulley wobbling cant be good for the engine though. i am hopeing someone has one laying around and willing to get rid of cheap. i went to my local junkyard only to find out they crushed the only EA82 in there:banghead:. and no other JY has any EA82 in jacksonville:rolleyes:. the wagon is spfi auto fwd. i dont know if that makes a difference from multi port and turbo models as well as carbed? does anyone know if a carbed ea82 pulley is the same as spfi injected one. i figured they would be. i would rather be sure ahead of time. called the dealer 60 bucks. so please help a wagon in need got an intake on the way with idle air control valve for the wagon if i cant get the one the car to act right. thanks you Mike for the intake. thank you in advance board members for your help
  10. put in solenoid from an old ford truck today. seeems strange but no more click click when i turn the key. starts everytime. but in turn found out the driver side came pully is bent. got to find another one and swap it out. still idles funny.:-\ slowly it has come back from it year and half coma. attached few pics for anyone intrested.
  11. i would like to see them as well. sweet turn of events..
  12. found that sticker on this website. http://www.indysworld.com/decals/ on the left scroll down till you see wagon thing. seems to be quite a few versions of that sticker.....girlfriend wants one for her wagon as well. looks like it will soon be time to spend a little money....lol
  13. damn i need to find a barn........and find a sedan like that........
  14. wow that looks rough man. word to the wise dont let that honda driver near a subaru:lol:. i think he did that on purpose:eek:. the way dude talked about the way he drove:rolleyes:. i am not suprized!!! let the fun begin. will have to stop in and check it out in person.
  15. man that was fun. glad we were able to get that pulled in between rain showers. at least you did not have to transport it in the aveo. that would have been a pain to try and stuff that engine in the trunk:lol:. keep me updated on your progress. i just hope we got all the bracketts needed though.
  16. i am having the same problem with a 90 loyale. we poured seafoam into the metal tube attached to IAC. it went away. idle was good once the seafoam made its way through. but after shutting it off and letting it cool. started up and the idle was back to what is was before the seafoam. i dont belive you can bypass it. but in my situation i thuink it needs to be driven to let the seafoam in the feul tank do its job. thanks to rpholz for your help. twice over. i would try seafoam and see if that help your problem. the wagon i have sat for a year or so. i think it is varnish build up in the system, that is what is causing my problem. hope this helps you.
  17. running a red top in my 88 sedan, yes damn good battery.i also have another red top in the wagon and a back up yellowtop. advance auto parts employee discount:rolleyes:. as for off road lights, the yellow top will help. but i larger altenator would go a long way to help with that. there are a few threads on here to help with that. i found one on using a nissan maxima alt. and on for using a chevy alt. i found this one http://random.removed.us/altswap.html this is for the hitachi to gm swap. as i sadi there is also a thread or two for other swaps. maybe other board members can help with links as well. this write up seems pretty in depth. i have yet to try it but it is next on the list.
  18. like he said, not much you can do get more power. just do the tune up. as for exhaust, as he said if is in good shape do the muffler replacement. i am going to cut from in from of the cat all the way back off. mine is rough but not leaking. but the cat seems to be ready to give up. but i have a place that will do the work right and cheap. they have done three of my or my dads vehicles, depending on who owned at the time.we have a habit of buying and selling vehicles back and forth. anyways the only thing that will really help outside of that would delta cams but as far as i know they are for NA engines not turbo. if i understand it right they give a little better low end grunt. which the EA 82 have very little of. please someone correct me if i am wrong. hope that helps you.
  19. i cant say for sure on xt seats. but i have swapped 91 legacy seats in a 88 sedan. i swapped the rails from my seats to the legacy seat. had to drill holes for the rear bolts from the legacy seat. installed with the shims that was on the rail from the 88 sedan seats. installed and sat down. only to realize that gl seat rails lock on one side. and due to the weight of the legacy seats, had to find a loyale seat rail that locked on both sides. i figure if the legacy seats fit the loyale rail i would be surprized it the xt seat would not fit as well. the only thing that makes me think that it would not fit might be the height of the xt seat. good tool to have gear wrench will make this much easier than trying to slide seat rails without them being installed.
  20. whoa now......synthetic turn signal fluid........ if you dont have hazards and no turn signals check the fuses for both or maybe the same fuse. buddy of mine lost both. got a new flasher only to find out the turn signal switch it self caused the flasher to stop working and poped the fuse as well.:-\
  21. i as well am instrested to see if this works. i agree with GD. i have alot of exsperience with holley and edelbrock set ups. but old cars and truck 50's - 70's stuff. i had the simular carb on a FE block 390 ford F-100. you jet it higher alot easier. than going smaller. between metering blocks and jets just might be able to pull it off. but i have seen stranger set ups on modified vw bugs and squre backs and rx 7 rotary engines as well. so look forward to hearing what happens. good luck always nice to know if there is another way doing things.
