strange junkyard experience, GL-10
dragonfire replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my gl sags in the back something fierce. but that may have something to with the fact i am carrying 150 lbs of stereo equipment. also the wheels i have rub i had to do the rolling of the rear wheel wells. still rubs if hit a bump just right. and also the shock are showing oil on the shaft. i have an 86 awd wagon parts car. has anyone used those type of rear springs on a sedan and if so are there ill affects on ride. :-\ -
can a motor from an auto be used on a manual motor. like say from an auto trans car to a manual car. WELL WHAT I MEANT WAS. if wanted to take an engine from a awd auto to an awd 5 spd, car could i? i thought i read something on auto engine and 5 engine not being able to swap. just wanted to clarify is all. all ea 82 stuff.

any damage with broken timing belt?
dragonfire replied to esh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
do yourself a favor and replace all timing belt parts. you dont want to have go back and do it a second time. learned that on my 78 civic. -
i run with out covers but i dont drive that car off road been almost a year and no problems. easy to change belts now. the only reason i left them off was broken bolts in the covers.

i used seafoam for my lifters they still tick from time to time. but no where near as bad. marvels mystery oil works well too. you may have to let it run for awhile then drive it. that is what i did with mine. then me and a friend pulled the motor resealed it and new water and oil pump, now she is golden. my gl has 325,000 and runs like a champ, after the reseal and other work. if you treid the MMO> and it still ticks there is atf trick to try also. i did that on an old truck i had that kept ticking no matter what i did. 1/2 quart of atf and 100 miles later oil change and the tick was gone. try a search on the atf thing. or maybe a fellow board member can find it for you. i could not seem to locate it. of course i am not very good with computers either. welcome to the land of subie:banana:

Replacing exhaust manifold gaskets...
dragonfire replied to Milemaker13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the trick i used when pulling the engine from my gl. to unbolt the exhaust, i used sea-doo lube. works just as well or even better the pb blaster. it is made to unfreeze steer cables used in jet skis. it penetrates like nothing i have ever seen before. can be gotten from any powersports dealer that sells sea-doo or just about any jet skis. with using the lube i also turned the nut to break it loose, then i turned it back. i did this back and forth until the nut or nut and stud came out. i think i had one nut and three studs when they finally were removed. let the jokes begin!!!!! somehow that last statement is going to come back to haunt me:lol: -
Intermittent, Intermittents
dragonfire replied to psylosyfer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i was wondering about that. my gl has done that on and off recently i thought it was due to short in wiring and gonna try to track down the wires to see. i am going to junkyard to see if the lone loyale they have has been put out yet. if so i am going to pull the wiper motor. and the hood i need. the only subaru in the yard period. new or old gen. damn sometimes i hate florida.:-\ -
be yee warned!!!! i have used the exspanding foam. great for short term fix. take it from me and my dad. for we used on his f100 under the dash to stop air from getting in. let me just say that the rust was so bad it made the cab deform. if you open the door you had to football tackle the door closed. again short term great, long term well lets just say if you would like to watch rust grow like grass grows go for it:rolleyes:. just my 2 cents! worth about half that:cool: .

i say the aftermarket. mine would read real low presure on the stock gauge. after market big difference.

ok i have a baja '05 i have noticed the same thing. every so often i get a whiff of coolant at first i thought it maybe someone else seems i remember smelling it in traffic. the only other time i smelt it was driving two hours to see some old friends and when i got there i smelt it getting out of the car. i popped the hood but did not see or smell anything i thought maybe i was have losing it. i will have to ask the dealer when i go to pick up my bugflector.

i had the same problem, replaced the stock unit with and aftermarket gauge. i think i spent a total of 30 bucks for the gauge and the extra line to feed inside the car. did not buy autometer or anything like that. just some wierd name i never heard of. hell it was 20 bucks and it changes 7 different colors. yes it is a little ricer fellas, but i change dash colors like yall change sock and shoes. would like to match some how. seems i can match my clothing colors but i can match dash colors:rolleyes:

think my gl has the hick ups?!?!?!?!?
dragonfire replied to dragonfire's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The fact that the tach jumped is an indicator. If it was a fuel issue the tach would be unaffected. that is what i was thinking as well. being the tach was affected plus it has a new fuel filter on it as well. and fuel pump. thank you. -
ok here is the deal. i am driving to work. minding my own buisness when i noticed the car buck like it was misfiring. but only once and kept going. so futher on to work, a few minutes later buck and i noticed that the tach jumped the same time the car bucked. she never stopped running or anything. just kinda wondering. did she drink to much the night before? thanks for your help! btw. alt new and optima red top both about a year old. all just checked and charging. no less than three weeks ago. Lucky 13

what the last two said. i have four 3in blue neons in my gl. one under each side of the dash and one under each front seat. use the relays. you thank yourself in the long run. just my 2 pennies. that does not inclued the monstorus sub and amp as well as the power cap. the more time and effort you put in when doing eletrical now will keep your car running and good eletrical condition. trust me i know i figured that the hard way with my old delta 88 i had. damn me for not useing relays and all!!!
