  1. Yes I think they would also flash and are always on with the lights. Those in the US would know more than me but I doubt the indicators in the bumper would operate that way.
  2. They are not really indicators, as you put it wagonist, but 'side markers' in US parlance.
  3. Just a guess but is it for the seat belt warning/buzzer? Certainly that relay is not fitted to Australian Brumbys of the era and we did not have any seat belt warning system.
  4. Possibly worse! In Oz you may also have to prove a new engine meets current emissions regs too, especially if it is modified from stock. This is expensive, plus there are not many testing stations you can actually go to and get the car tested.
  5. Here you go Cyfun, this is a RHD mirror for the early '80s Subarus but it is basically the same as the late '70s version (accepting the slightly larger mounting plate). http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-MIRROR-1988-MODEL-AY-DOOR-RH-791032021-NEW-OLD-STOCK-/141276309753?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e4b968f9&vxp=mtr The date in the listing is way out!
  6. Does everyone remember this Rat Brat? http://www.speedhunters.com/2010/06/car_spotlight_gt__the_brat_missile/ Certainly not as clean as yours b-rat!
  7. Just have to state I am wrong with that statement! Seems the spacers were certainly used outside of the US from photos I have seen online but I stand by the idea they are not necessary and you can run without them.
  8. Yes the VW crowd has been doing it for years with 'Patina Beetles'. It certainly seems to be a growing trend and I suppose a reaction to overpriced and underused car restorations. I really like this one and it is the way I would like to go with my 1980 Brumby. Once all the rust holes are welded up of course!
  9. Hmmm... This makes no sense. Most Subarus have their exhaust manifold bolt directly to the head. There is certainly no warping or head/valve issues. If fact I do not believe the ASV (or is it AIS - air injection system?) was used outside of the US. I doubt there would be any issues removing the spacers, except perhaps for pollution/emissions.
  10. Remove the pipe from the two threaded pieces and fill the holes by welding or some other means (JB Weld?). Screw them back into position. Could not be any easier and holes will be plugged.
  11. Just as a point of interest, for every 10 Toyota/Scion versions there is only 1 BRZ produced by Subaru so they will always be in limited supply.
  12. That's a shame. I thought that would be the case as the company that actually makes the slider does not list them in their website.
  13. Certainly a difference, they are basically nothing alike. '80 to '89 would suggest Gen 2 gasket, although it really should start from '82. The years listed for aftermarket Subaru parts are generally, woefully inaccurate!
  14. Come on RustyBrat, re-read through this thread and it is clear plenty of people have enjoyed what you have done to your Brat. No need to stop because of one person's opinion (I'm just assuming here). I for one, have certainly enjoyed your Brat resurrection!
  15. You're not looking very hard then... I am somewhat surprised there is a listing for both generations of Brat!
  16. Glad you are still around! Yes I was disappointed when your photos disappeared, especially your work with the cowl area repair. Will look foward to future updates.
  17. The mirrors are on the right side in Australia too. The only spare one I have is not in good condition, the gasket is missing and so is the screw that holds the base to the mirror part . However, the mirror itself is fine. I should be able to find a suitable screw and I made a gasket out of rubber for the LHD side once, which could be used on the RHD too. It's yours if you pay shipping to the US but I kinda think you will find one eventually. 1979 to 1982 second generation mirrors are exactly the same except for the larger base plate that mounts/screws onto the door. Without checking I think the mounting holes are further apart but this does not matter as they are only held on with self tapping screws. It would be a simple install. Later EA81 and EA82 mirrors have more complicated mounting arrangements. Certainly EA82 mirrors would need some work to fit, I'm not certain on the EA81 versions after '82.
  18. You need to unscrew your mirrors and tighten the spring/screw mechanism. This will stop the mirrors moving when you hit bumps.
  19. I am sure they would have been optional from the dealer, like they were here in Australia. Of course that would mean there are not many around, although I have seen a couple of matched sets crop up from time to time on eBay US.
  20. No, not really. The only steering wheels that will fit are from the sedan, wagon or coupe versions sold alongside the Brumby. Early models ('73 to '79 in Australia) will fit too, although the indicator cancelling mechanism is slightly different, but I doubt you would find one of those before an EA81 engined Subaru. Steering wheel boss kits are readily available on eBay...
  21. Of course I am speaking from an Australian perspective but the only difference is the cable end that mounts on the clutch pedal. Early has a single round 'ring' while the gen 2 end has a flat 'U' shaped piece with a hole in either side... OK, so pictures would be better than words! Basically it should be a simple mod to make it work.
  22. A lot easier to drill them out (after removing the steering column) and buy new shear bolts!
  23. In Australia the GSR only ever came with a 4 speed gearbox, only the hardtop was equipped with the 5 speed. Very rare transmission as not many hardtops would have been sold and certainly not many have survived!
  24. While all Impreza hoods (bonnets) will fit, there is the early style and the later version after '97 (or '96?). They are different pressings (therefore a different shape) and to make it look right you would have to change the grille and headlights as has been mentioned.
