  1. I think the fuse for the reverse lights is the 4th one from the top of the fuse box... The fuse box cover at that number from the top states: Turn Back 15A Rear Defrost Although I would think your indicators or turn signals would not be working if this fuse was out.
  2. To put a dual range gearbox on your 1600 you will need the fat case bell housing. All dual range gearboxes (4 and 5) have a side mount starter. Simplest would be a four speed but you will have to muck around with the shift levers or find the shifters from a 1981 EA81/dual range Gen 1 Brat.
  3. The EA71 bell housing can only be swaped between the late and early EA71, bolt holes are different for the EA81. To use your current driveshaft you would have to get it lengthened as the five speed gearbox is shorter than the four. I believe the five speed may cause some clearance issues with the steering shaft in a 1980 Brat.The dual range four speed and EA81 just barely fit and the five speed box is s fair bit wider near the bell housing. There is a write-up in the Historic forum that had pics from a member who did this swap.
  4. There is a tool to make things easier, like this: Not sure how easy they are to come by these days. I am sure you can use a open ended spanner of the right size plus a ring spanner for the lock nut... Sorry cannot remember the size right now.
  5. Yes, Jamie already has the correct camshaft in her current holed/damaged, dry sleeved engine.
  6. Yes dry sleeve EA63 engines/blocks are not really plentiful, even in the US. They were only sold for a short time before being replaced by the EA71. The ff-1 needs the dual port heads of the wet sleeve EA63 due to the suspension design. Putting these heads on a dry sleeve EA63 is the simplest option. Perhaps modifying your heads to suit a EA71 (and using the 1400cc camshaft) is a solution Jamie?
  7. You have to wonder why the hole was drilled in the first place. If you are going to fix it Jamie, make sure there is nothing else wrong with the block.
  8. Hood is the same as an early '77 but not a late '77 as the stage 2 is quite different. Dannybreadman has heaps of the LHD fender (guard!) listed on eBay... Not local to you but NOS! I assume you would have already seen that listing?
  9. Early Subarus were notorious for flat spots on initial acceleration. Stomp on the gas and there is often a moment of hesitation as the fuel moves from the centrally mounted carburetor, through the intake manifold and into the widely spaced cylinder heads. Any period road test/magazine article usually makes reference to this flat spot. This was a trait of most flat fours and was only eliminated with the introduction and widespread use of fuel injection.
  10. Well they are a completely different size (thickness) so it is not simply a matter of changing the rotors. You would also have to change the calipers and the caliper brackets.It would be far easier to get the correct rotors.
  11. I think it is the same size as the wagons, so 45 litres or 11.8 gallons... But I might be wrong!

  13. On another note it has always confounded me the USA got the factory green tinted glass and Australia did not! We only got clear glass here... Yes I am envious!
  14. Should have looked first! An EA63 with a engine number higher than 914674 should have the dry sleeves. A number before this denotes wet sleeves.
  15. Subie Gal if I forget to, remind me to post up the engine number that denotes the switch from the wet sleeve EA63 single exhaust port engine to the dry sleeve version. This should help in your search.
  16. Really not sure why you think the weber is sideways... But you are entitled to an opinion! One question for you, how does the throttle linkage work if you turn the carb 90º?
  17. O.C.D. do me a favour and test run the engine without the blue wire from the engine harness attached to anything... Just leave it loose... When I fitted my weber this wire would allow the engine fo fire up and then it would promptly die. This was very frustrating but once I disconnected the blue wire everything just worked and it ran perfectly! Do not ask me why, because I have no idea but it is worth a try.
  18. Again O.C.D has the Weber on the correct way. This is a DGV series or right handed weber NOT a DFV which is mounted the other way. The DFV is a mirror image of the DGV.
  19. The question.is wet sleeve or dry? Inquiring minds want to know!
  20. Without double checking and from memory it is behind the front bumper. You should be able to see it if you get under the bumper and look up!
  21. From the look of the side it's very clear the front door and rear door have been spliced together to make one door.
  22. Welcome to the USMB, looks like you have a nice Gen 1 Stage 2! Plenty of people here will be able to provide advice, anything specific you would like to know?
