  1. Hi Abski Welcome to the USMB, lots of great info and people on here! In the US the L series was most often known simply by the trim level DL, GL, RX and so on. I do not think it was ever officially called Leone in the US. As you are in Oz you should check ausubaru.com too.
  2. The idle should be around 850 rpm, 650 rpm is a little low. This is off the top of my head but basically you set the idle and then use the mixture screw to 'lean out' the carb until the engine starts to run a little rough. Then adjust the mixture screw until you get it running smooth. Don't turn the mixture screw too much only one or two turns should be needed (provided the carb is OK!). It is kind of a balancing act but after you have the adjusted the mixture screw a few times you can usually find the 'sweet spot'. Now check the idle is still at 850 rpm (Although there could be a different rpm figure for the US).

  4. Is 195/50-15 not a common size in the US? This size is actually much closer to the rolling diameter of the original factory wheel and tyre combo. The result being a more accurate speedometer reading. This is the size I use on my Pugs and would fit fine on a Gen 2 Brat.
  5. The original hose would have been in two pieces as there should be a 'check valve' in the middle. I think it is a one way valve.... Great that the brakes are working better!
  6. I do not see why not! There are basically only 4 bolts to undo to remove the dash and I do not believe the welded in mounts for these changed from '73 to early '77. I should qualify that by saying I only have experience with the '74 and '76 dashes... Never seen the early '72 - '73 dash in person so you would have to check the mountings carefully to make sure they match. I think the bigger problem would be the different wiring harness used....
  7. I would check the anti-dieseling valve on the carb. Perhaps it is not getting power? It is my understanding this is meant to stop 'run-on' after the ignition is turned off. Worth a try.
  8. What you are pointing to in the picture looks like the connector for the hose to your brake power booster. The hose runs from here to a one way valve (which is bolted to the spare tire bracket - not sure if this is the same in the US) before connecting to the booster or vacuum servo. How are the brakes? I would imagine you are not getting very much vacuum assistance...

  13. After engine #914674 the EA63 has dry liners and single exhaust ports. I take it none of these sold new in the US?
  14. The EA62 was available with twin carbs (in the FF-1) which pre-dates the introduction of the Leone in 1971/2.
  15. It would be interesting to know the engine # of the EA63... If it is the dry sleeve version someone must want it!
  16. Carbed EJ engines were not sold new in Oz, so I doubt you would be able to find many (if any) of them!
  17. OK I found one. It is a bit rough as it needed to bent back into shape (not sure why!) and the only spare clamp I had was from the choke but it should do the job. Yours if you want it, send me a PM with your address and I will mail it to you.

  19. Perhaps it is an earlier manifold, I can take photos of my EA63 1400 (thermostat is in the middle) but basically the bracket for the accelerator cable mounts behind one of the bolts for the thermostat housing.

  21. I wonder if anyone on the board can confirm the Gen 1 Brumby/Brat actually had a different engine cross member between the EA71 and EA81 versions? My 1978 wagon was purchased with the EA81 and dual range tranny from a '81 Brumby/Brat when I originally brought it (16 years ago!). When the dual range came to a grinding halt last year my only choice was to install an original EA71/single range transmission combo. I had always assumed the engine cross member was changed when the EA81/dual range was added but now after swapping in the EA71/single range I am not so sure... In a nutshell, both engine/transmission combinations worked in my 1978 body shell so I am not sure a different cross member is actually needed. I did not swap the cross member, and both cross members I have appear to be the same.
  22. Stage I handles are actually a bit longer (and not recessed or flush, so rather bulky) than the stage II. I doubt one would fit on the back of a Brat. Especially if it needs to fit into a recess like the handles on the doors do. You would have better luck with the later EA81 model door handles, these seem to fit (without a lot of room!).
  23. As moosens has noted the smaller oval air cleaner is for both the 1400 and early 1600 dual carb engines (later 1600 engines use the larger filter from the 1800). Datsun 180B SSS coupes (were they called that in the UK?)also used this filter. They are not as easy to come by now as many manufacturers have discontinued this size. I know they usually sell to the Datsun nuts, especially in Australia.
