Was wondering if anyone can post the factory part numbers for the pesky little coolant hoses that go to the throttle body on EA82T motors? Actually all the coolant hose part numbers would be great... (I really need to get a parts catalog one of these days...) I have searched without any luck and before anyone else mentions it, I know EA82T engines 'suck' in their old age and really should be replaced with... anything! Cheers Lee

Help IDing a twin carb manifold??
Leeroy replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Certainly it is from an EA63 or EA71. This is obvious from the way the air cleaner assembly mounts to the carbs (On the EA81 there is a stud in the middle of the carbs the air cleaner bolts to...). Therefore the manifold will be too short for an EA81... To tell if it is from a EA63 (1400) or EA71 (1600) measure the heater outlet pipe (I suppose it is the outlet?) on the manifold (down near the mounting holes in the picture) . An EA63 manifold will have a 1/2 inch outlet while the EA71 will be larger at 5/8 inch. -

The FF1 needs the dual port heads. Without going back through this thread to find it, from memory the suspension design of the FF1 does not allow for later Subaru engines which have the single exhaust port at the bottom of the heads. -
Valve adjustment should be done on a cold engine and not while it is running! There is a tool that appears on eBay every now and then which makes the whole process slightly easier. Like this one which did not sell.

Older Generation Becoming Historic?
Leeroy replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Subaru also 'pushed' the passenger space forward for the new Impreza while keeping the same overall wheelbase to increase passenger room in the cabin (They want to sell as many as they can in the US - And you guys seem to like them BIG!). This would be another reason for that extra door window.- 70 replies

The first 2 port EA63 motors were wet sleeve just like the 4 port version. Only those produced after engine # 914674 were dry sleeve like the EA71. -
79 DL Driver window Question???

OK the parts catalog lists different part numbers for 2 door sedan and Brat. -
79 DL Driver window Question???
Leeroy replied to LoveTheeSubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is actually a two door sedan not a coupe. There is a chance the Brat shares the same door glass. I will check my parts catalog later and let you know for sure. -
Anyone install a Grant steering wheel on their GL?
Leeroy replied to 83pickle's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One option is to buy a SAAS boss kit. You could ask this company on eBay if they will ship to the US. SAAS makes boss kits/adapters for both EA81 and EA82. They are drilled for the two common (MOMO and Nardi) steering wheel patterns (Not the 5 bolt Grant style - need an adapter). -
lifter tick solved? fingers crossed.

How I wish I could get a new $65 oil pump from the dealer! Got a quote the other day and the oil pump is $565.00 (Australian dollars) ex-Japan ! Luckily there is eBay... -
I have not done this but in my possession is a EA71 dual carb manifold that has been cut, extended and welded so it will fit a EA81. So it can be done. I would imagine it'd be easier to 'cut and shut' a manifold to shorten too. Of course if probably comes down to how much you are willing to spend!

I want to say beautiful but think delicious is a better word! Looks good enough to eat off Kosta! Great work, you must feel it is getting closer to finished now. Cheers Lee -
1981 BRAT cross member on 1977 coupe frame?
Leeroy replied to Pooparu's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You should be able to do it... The late stage 1 has the steering gearbox sitting on top of the engine cross member, rather than underneath as in the early stage 1s. This would mean it is similar to the '81 cross member. -

Cool! Always nice to see another coupe. Are the alloy rims 13 or 14 inches? -

I agree Thierry... But finding a set would be like, you know hens teeth or the holy grail... Or a set of rear RX coupe discs . -
Steering Wheel Adapter Questions - 88 GL-10 Wagon
Leeroy replied to subi dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your 1988 GL wagon is what we Australians refer to as an L Series. The Sportswagon was simply an L Series wagon dressed up with 'Sportswagon' stripes and white spoked wheels but it was still an L Series. The Loyale and GL will have the same steering wheel spline, they are both an L Series. It would not matter if you brought the L Series or the Sportswagon adapter as they are one and the same. Note the years 1985 - 1993, this is the important part. There are actually three different adapters in the list you have copied, not one. The seller supplies the correct one when you tell them what model Subaru you have. There is one for the Leone (1979 - 84) and Brumby, another for the L Series and Sportswagon, and finally one to suit the Impreza (Prior to airbags!). -
just pick up the GF hard top
Leeroy replied to maudsland's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Originally only the Hardtop came in FL, GF and GFT model designations (At least in Japan). Basically low-line, mid-line, and high-line levels of trim. -

Excellent maudsland! You know you really did not want me to buy it! Looks to be in good nick too! -
What is this? 1975 Subaru Leone .... GSR?
Leeroy replied to Legacy RallyGuy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The height of the side glass and roof suggest this is a 2 door sedan rather than a coupe. Still, could be a good project. -

Hmmm... Top mount starter five speed!! Just cannot justify another one! :-\

Thought it was time I added some photos of my 1974 DL Sedan. This was a 'one owner, old lady' car and had only covered 84 000 Km from new! Interior is in great condition, it even has a dash pad without cracks! The Moto Lita steering wheel really suits it too. Unfortunately the EA63 has 'weeping' head gaskets (not much of a leak but it is there) so I am currently building an EA71 with EA63 heads as a replacement.

I have a door on my 1400 DL sedan which is impossible to get right. The front passenger side door either fits badly while opening perfectly or fits well and 'sticks' when you open it... :-\ Very frustrating as all the other doors work and 'sit' like new. Kosta, you must be finding it hard to keep the anticipation in check! The car is coming along great!
