  1. not really. the chg system appears to be o.k. it just blows the link and now it's doing this other stuff! ugh! i don't have time to look at it right now. thanks, g
  2. my fusible link problem has grown into something sinister:mad: now, many of the warning lights are on (abs, at oil temp, check engine) and the speedo and tach go dead when i step on the brake pedal and sometimes the car cuts out too. i'm wondering if there is an ecu and if so where isit? thanks, gregg
  3. i'm in the process of checking it out and i noticed that there is what appears a load on the motor before the link blows out. could this just be normal in the sense of all the power being taken away from the system after it blows? the engine stays running even w/out the link
  4. thank you for that very simple to foloow procedure. i will try to get to it this weekend and run it down. i'll let you know how i make out. thanks again to everyone who posted suggestions. gregg
  5. i've used a volt meter before but i don't think i have used an ohm meter. can you tell me specifically what to look for?thanks. gregg
  6. yikes! my fusible link thing happened in danbuy, ct two weekends ago on the way back to Pa.
  7. another thing i remember. when i picked up the car i couldn't take it out of park after i started it; i could hear the relay clicking as i depressed the brake but the shifter would not move. on a hunch i unclamped the adjustment for the column and when it moved down the relay kicked in and i could move the shifter. the next tme i shut it off was when the fusible link went for the first time. could it be a short in the column? that might explain the wiper thing....hmmm
  8. thanks. i was going to do it the other way-take each fuse out one at a time but i was thinking that would blow out a bunch of the 30 amp fuses until i found the right one! i like your idea better. i just bought the car so i don't know about any work other than new valve covers and an oil change. car does have a bunch of surface rust under the hood; could this cause a bad ground in the ignition circuit? thanks agiain. gregg
  9. i replaced the solid wire temporary fix and it looks like a good idea i did. i put a wire with a fuse holder in and now every time i start the car the 30 amp fuse gets fried. the wipers go on for one pass even though the switch is off, so i removed the wiper fuse and tried it and it still blew the fusible link. anyone have expereince with this? or do i just have to do a lot of electrical troubleshooting? thanks in advance. gregg
  10. i'm guessing it's probably better that i can see where i'm going, since "There people on our roads who are so unaware of their vehicles etc, etc...."
  11. i have an older benz and the yellow fogs really help my vision at night. the fog lights with the low beam are more effective than the high beam. about one in 15 cars 'flashes' me as if my highbeams are on (or maybe it's just Ranger83 trying to manifest his futile wish!)as far as the subarus are concerned i think the fact that the headlights go out when the key is turned off obviates the need for driving lights.
  12. i agree totally but at least they don't fail for rust like they did 20 years ago! i mean freakin' body rust use to have to be fixed to pass! now its just if the hole goes through into the pass compartment. btw, i work in reading. gregg
  13. i think i did something smart but i welcome your opinion in case i'm overlooking something didn't want to replace the fusible link and have it continue to blow at $9 a throw so i bought a wire with an inline, replaceable 30 amp fuse to repalce the link until i can be reasonably certainthe problem that is making the link cash is fixed. <$5 for the link and 6 30 amp fuses will this work o.k. or did i forget something??? thanks, gregg
  14. asked the dealer and they want over $9 each. i want to buy a couple and i'm trying to find them cheaper. 30 amp is the one i need (i think) thanks, gregg
  15. i never tried it on a soob but i had a later model bmw and the lighting was not good and i researched a wattage upgrade and was warned about potential wiring issues, such as burning up the headlight wiring! i'm pretty sure the factory wattage for a low beam is 55 w. my fogs on the bmw were also 55 watts. hope this helps. gregg
  16. that's what i thought but i can't find it. i fixed it with a piece of wire to get mobil again but i want to get a new one and a spare.
  17. the wire inside the fuse box that completely disabled my car today when it burned upin danbury, ct; which is pretty inconvenient sine i live in pennsylvania!! fairly thick wire wrapped in braided fabric with two flat connectors on it. it is the forwardmost thing in the box. i want to find one but i can't think of the name for it. thanks, gregg 1995 2.2 legacy wagon
  18. 1995 legacy 2.2~was on after car was sitting for two weeks; idle was rough but car ran o.k. after warm-up everything evened out but the check engine light is still on. do i have to go to the dealer to get this turned off now? thanks, gregg

  20. all right, i bought this car for my fiance and she likes it fine but we were driving in my car the other day and she says, oh so sheepishly "i really like this car..." now, i had originally suggested that she save some money and drive this car anyway but she didn't want to drive a bigger car; now she thinks it would be o.k. so the wagon will be sold. it has 145,000 miles and was owned by a subaru tech so the timing belt etc. was just done. runs and drives well. Pa. inspected until 11/06. i'm thinking of selling it locally in the philly paper and want to know a fair price for it. thanks, gregg
