Here's an article from Autoblog. The Subaru Boxer diesel is being introduced this year at Geneva Auto Show. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/08/subaru-diesel-boxer-to-debut-in-geneva/ Can you just imagine what this thing will sound like at both idle and all revved up? Quote from autoblog article stating that the engine "produce sounds similar to Beelzebub (the devil) gargling a Harley".

After surviving the double blizzard that hit Denver over the holidays in my '91 Lego AWD wagon, I may never own another brand of vehicle as long as I live. The Germans want almost twice as much money as the top level Outback LL Bean. Any future vehicle will have AWD, no exceptions. Subaru has the superior engineering approach (low center of gravity boxer engine, symmetrical powertrain) and the Japanese are world famous for their uncomprimising dedication to quality. Abandon your Suddenly Upsidedown Vehicle America! 21MPG in the city and laugh as you drive over black ice!

They could build a Legacy Coupe with the more affordable H-4 and price it alongside the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry(Solara) 4-cylinder coupe, as well as other 4 banger coupes currently for sale, just not as small as the Impreza coupe (no longer sold new). -
I had the original O2 sensor and had it replaced at 140K. According to my Subaru specialist, O2 sensors should be replaced every 4 years, even if it doesn't throw a CEL. I was getting 16-18 MPG but scan showed the O2 was fine, but its response time was slow but not slow enough to cause a CEL. After O2 replaced, MPG shot up to 21, in city driving, on the next fuel up. Don't bother cleaning, if you've got it out, replace it. If it fails after cleaning and you end up replacing it two months later, you won't be happy.

Legacy Coupe with H-6 anyone? 300HP, Symetrical AWD, balanced chassis, BMW and Audi won't know what hit them. Back seat you can actually sit in, unlike Porsche 911 with AWD (Carrera 4). Hell, make the coupe a CONVERTIBLE OPTION! -
Phase I 4EAT issues (torque bind, shifting issues, reverse gear failing) When I got my '91, it had a "double-shift" effect on second gear (rpm's would rise in second then it would studder and continue gaining speed until it shifted to third), had to have valve body rebuilt EJ Phase I emission sensors are begining to show their age (MAP, idle air control valve, canister purge valve, O2 {I still had the original one with 140K on it}) Sludge build-up (fixed with Sea Foam or similiar cleaning product) dirty and leaking injectors

Concerning your beebing objection, the first place I would try is the owners manual. Go to your index and research keyless entry operations and setup. I can't make any suggestions about missing bits of chrome and you definitely won't find one in any junkyard anywhere in the country (the newest Subarus are mid '90's). A far as "little easy things" just keep up on your scheduled maintenance (spark plugs, air filter, injector cleaner, fuel filter replacement) and the car will last longer than you might think. This is a car that will still be going long after you've made the last payment.

This my second boxer engine ('71 VW Superbeetle) and I must admit the Japanes engineers who created this engine (Masayuki Kodama, Takemasa Yamada and Shuji Sawafuji of FHI Ltd) knew what they were doing. This engine is still being built but the displacement is now 2.5. This engine is used world wide with hundereds of thousands of loyal (or should I use Loyale?) fans. The durability that you've come to rely on in your EA engine has been subplanted in the EJ. SOHC with 4 valves simply improves its efficiency but the basic architecture of the engines internals are still the same. You needn't be put off by more modern technology. It'll be OK.

Subarus of the past have always been unusual looking. Only recently have they begun appearing not as oddball (introduction of Gen 4 Lego). I once read a review of the Gen I Impreza WRX appearance resembling "a bulldog chewing on a wasp" and the current Impreza is just as goofy as hell, bugeye headlights and all. Subarus aren't designed by the Italians, and thankfully not engineered by them either. It appears that the current designer liked the looks of the now gone Ford Taurus.

When you open the rear hatch, the cargo light comes on then as the hatch continues to raise up and you remove your hand from the hatch handle, the cargo light sometimes goes out. Where is the switch that turns on the rear cargo light? It probably needs to be WD-40'd. It isn't located in the door jamb like the other doors are.

Go to Colorado Auto Parts on South Santa Fe and Dartmouth. 40 acres of just about everything. It's DIY and no minimum charge to enter. Saturday they close at 1:00 pm and closed on Sunday. The imports are front and center as soon as you walk in, Detroit cars are grouped next to the fences (Ford and Chrysler to the north, GM to the east) Impreza and Forester are too new to be found here but there are lots of Gen 1 Lego and many Loyales to pull the wheels from and they should bolt on without any problems.

If I were you, I'd set aside the $4000 in an account dedicated for repairs and upkeep (sort of like those health savings accounts for out-of-pocket expenses) and when the money is used up on repairs, then consider trading. Concerning your need for a wagon, do you continuously find yourself in situations where having the extra space of a wagon would have helped?

Sounds like you're trading in a car (VDC Outback) that has the bugs worked out of it and trading it for a new, lesser equipped model. Remember that Outbacks are very popular in Colorado and the dealers tend to be hardasses on price. If you're are not willing to pay the price they want, someone else will. They aren't begging for customers. Wait another 3 months and see how you feel about trading. If you're upset about the money being spent for repairs, consider locating a repair shop that isn't the dealer. $30 to change spark plugs, for example, is excessive. Belts and brakes are considered scheduled maintenance and should be done anyway. Just find someone, competent, who will do it for less.

4 Door sedan hatchbacks aren't very popular in America. VW has learned that lesson over time selling tons of 2 and 4 door Golfs and a few Jettas in Europe and selling tons of Jettas and not as many Golfs here. This year, VW changed the name of the Golf back to Rabbit, hoping to increase sales. Subaru already sells a 4 door Legacy hatchback, they call it the Wagon. Pull your sunshade and it, sort of, transforms the wagon into a sedan with a shell on top of the trunk, as long as your glass isn't tinted. Take the shell, trunk lid or cargo cover off, and you have the poorly selling Baja. Because, in my opinion, the Legacy is in the same class as the Camry and Accord, with better traction and handling, I think Subaru should entertain the idea of a Legacy Coupe, to compete with the 2 door Toyota Camry, called Solara and the Accord Coupe, for the US market. Since the production of the Baja is slated to end, they should produce the Legacy Coupe instead up in Lafayette, Indiana, and make it limited production to see how the market responds. Both the Accord and Camry/Solara come with V-6. Wouldn't a Legacy Coupe with the H-6 be fun? Subaru currently doesn't have a 2 door vehicle since they cancelled the Imprezza coupe. Since the Legacy is starting to look upscale inside, I think a 2 door will further that image. Yet they can still build a H-4 as does Accord and Solara with their I-4's.

I looked closely at the item offered on eBay and the CD player offered is for a CD changer that sits under the passenger seat. What you see under this stereo is the head control unit. I have the OEM CD and it doesn't look like this. Mine looks like the one shown in the '91 Legacy brochure. The "aux" jack is iPod compatible, which I use occassionaly. The "aux" port was originally intended for portable CD players. The OEM CD is hard to find and dealers want $1000 . They do show up on eBay occassionally and bidding can get up to $200. I prefer the OEM stereo because crack head stereo thieves don't want factory, they want the new stuff. Put a new stereo in a 15 year old car and hope they don't look inside your car. Tint the windows and you increase your chances of a break in.
