well first of all thanks for the explanation !! i hope you mean transmission when you say tranny. umm what is the diffrential and how do i replace the oil ? once again thanks for the xplanation very aprecieated any other tips perhaps as what i can do to cars engine or transmission to bring the car back some more power.. i dont expect the car to be more than what it is but for some reason i always feel that the car does not have enough power especially 2nd gear very week week = doesnt pass 40 45 kmh usually i barley reach 40 and put in to 3rd just feels weird aswell as i dont have a rpm clock so im not sure what rpm im at but from the sound doesnt sound like i can pull any more and do all brat make alot of noise ?

hi a few month ago i engine over heated and i had to replace the head gasket, i dont know much about cars but i was told that something had to be taken apart 2 heads i was told something like that and then grinded and placed back... what i would like to know is does this mean that engine will not perform the way it should does it loose power is there anything that i can do today to improve the way the engine works to improve the power of the car without any major cost and can someone recommend what a good engine oil i should use at the moment it has 20/50, if i put new oil is there something i can put to clean the engine before putting new oil in and one question how do i knwo if the gear is no good anymore what are symtoms to know i should change the gear the car im talking about is subaru brat 1.6l 1993 manual any tips on what should be done to bring the car back good working order is very aprecciated thanks to all

ok now lets say that the throwout bearing is the problem, then what needs to be done does the whole clutch need to be replaced. what other stuff can i do to the engine or gear to bring the car back to full strength any special potions !! how can i know if the gear is ok what are signs of the gear being no good any special treatment i can do to the engine to make it run better again im sorry for asking so many question but this the only way i can find out what oil is recommended and any other tips to make my brat feel better is highly apprecieated thanks for any help about suspension any recommendations for front suspension my brat is 2x4 1.6l 1993 same as 1989 in israel they continued to manufacter them till 94' and about air filter are they recommended and what kind thanks again everyone

hey guys, well the noise is the same in every gear.. its funny to try and describe kind of metal and metal noise grinding about first gear i think i can pull more than 20 kmh but then the engine sounds like it will blow now i had to fix the head gasket once already so do you think that can affect the power about second gear im sure that the car cannot reach 80 no matter what maybe when the car was brand new or still in the factory thanks

hello everybody, i have bought s subaru brat 1993 1.6l engine manual about 1 year ago. since i have bought this car i havent been the luckiest guy around. had to fix the head gasket due to over heating ( which is pretty expensive where im from) had an accident and trashd the whole front of my car (fixed that to also was expensive) Now i like this car and it has a good market here in israel. WHat i would ike to know is some help with what to do firt to bring her back to life the way she should be. at the moment the car seems very tired maybe because of the head gasket that was fixed but i dont know cause o dont have that much car experience. when i start driving the gears are very short 1st gear - 20 kmh 2nd gear - maybe 40 kmh 3rd gear 60 and 4th gear 80 and then 5 now sometimes or most of the time in 2 or 3 and even 4 sometimes there is this kind of metal noise like a metal grinding noise khhhhh.. khhhhh.. so now i dont know if there is a problem with the gear or clutch. sometimes i dont here it at all but then other times i hear it in every gear when im pulling and not over pulling the gears regular driving. now im not looking for a sports car but i would like my brat to be able to drive and feel that it isnt a chevy but that it has its own power an that it is reliable. hope someone can help me with suggestions sorry for making this topic so long i just dont really know where to start.

i feel real bad for not knowing anything and asking silly questions... i know that here in israel changing the motor to 1.8 is not allowed and they are very difficult with thes things unless you got lot of $$$$$ however from what i understand your advic would be to change the exaust to 2 or 2.5 and the carb to webber can someone give me a short brief to understand what a different exaust would ad to the car and what 2 or 2.5 means and same for the carb now say i put a differnt exaust and carb would an air filter also be recommended.... can i buy the air filter and carb over the net ? i read somewhere something about the webber kit that it is intended for automatic choke and the choke in my car is manual thanks again for the help and im happy i joined this forum

the engine is 1.6 and if im not mistaken ea 71 the model looks exactly the same as 89 just made in 93 same body and engine mine is 2x4 if anyone can help with what i can do to improve the engine strength or feel or anything at all that can impove the car. i would like to know if an open air filter could help or damage the car and if one can be installed on this type engien and also if i can change the carburetor... again any help will be very aprecieated thanks

hi im a new owner of a subaru brat this is my first subaru ever and i really glad i got one i curios to know what kind of modifications i can do as in ( engine or air filter) i dont have any experience in cars and this is my second car i would like to make sure that the car is standing at its best any advice and information on what is recommended on doing as in what type of air filters are available for such a car and what kind exaust... the brat i own is 2x4 and has a 1.6 engine the year is 1993 im from israel thanks for and advice
