boozen replied to boozen's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks subieman, I'll do it. Thanks to everyone here for the encouragement, I'll do what I can to make it happen. You've got me excited about this deal. I hope it's still available. -

Thanks, it sounds like a fairly simple fix that I can do myself. The owner says the car has plenty of power, no problem getting up to speed (and beyond) on the Interstate. -

ok, ok, ok, I'll do it! An $8 gasket for the pump, that's what is causing the ticking? -
I have an opportunity to buy this for $600. It needs a water pump, it just started leaking from weeping hole. Also, valve lifters/lashers ticking. The owner was told by a reputable subaru mechanic, that a new oil pump would take care of the problem since these lifters rarely need adjustment (hydraulic). Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks Dukie, and welcome to the board. I forgot to mention the 90 is a carb. No digital camera yet, but would like to experiment w/pictures soon. I'll check out the other site, as you suggested. Thanks again! -

Wow, on a whim, (after my 85 sooby wagon overheated and died) I bought two justy's (from the same owner) to save on gas. Thanks for helping me realize the value in this decision. One is a 90 w/76k (2wd 5spd), the other, an 89 w/120k (4wd 5spd w/webber carb). The 89 is white with the two black stripes on the front hood, giving it a sporty look. They both run, the 90 is idling too high, over 2000 rpm. the owner just started it up a couple days ago, and it just started doing this all of a sudden. Anyone have an idea why this would be happening? thanks, everyone, for all your justy encouragement! -
Wow! You guys are great, hats off, what a wealth of information, thanks! I am on a tight budget, but am willing to take the time to do a thorough job as ya'll have suggested. I'm looking at a little justy to ride in the meantime, any yea's or nea's on the justy's (it's a 90, 76k miles)? I'll post when I have my first question, which I'm sure this newbie will have. Thanks, so very much guys, Ken

This will be my first attempt. Can anyone help me prepare for this unforseen adventure. Any difficulties I should brace myself for? Thanks.

Hello to all you retrofits, I'm looking to buy an 88 GL wagon with all wheel drive, auto transmission. The transmission is slipping, only drives in first and second gear. I have an 85, 5spd hi/lo GL wagon. My question is this: Can I use my 5spd in the 88 AWD? Thanks, hope to hear from someone, Ken in Vancouver, WA

I don't want to burst any hose's (no pun intended) but I have just experienced a overheating issue with my 85 wagon. It was none of the above mentioned items, unfortunately for me, it was a blown head. I don't wish the worst for you, but a blown head can be deceiving. The right head (passenger side), the last to get coolant is often the culpret. Someone here can tell you how to check this, I have yet to get this far.

Subie Virgin in need of some help!!

I too, am a subaru wannabee do-it-yourself(er). If you're frothing at the bit to learn about your subaru go your local library and get your hands on the subaru bible, How To Keep Your Subaru Alive (by Larry Owens). Go to the Troubleshooting chapter and learn which knock may be yours. You may find out you don't need to replace your engine, hopefully. Good luck and congratulations, you are now a proud owner of one of the most efficient cars on earth!
